No, it was a light hearted reply in an otherwise train wreck of a thread (read the article, it’s actually pretty funny).
Just watched this video.
Look at the particle effects and the atmosphere on ccity.
Then Paul goes on saying that they were in Alpha stage now.
So wtf happened? :amazed:

They did some balancing and toned down the explosion smoke because while it looks pretty it obscures gameplay like crazy.
IMO the game is better now than it was then. The story bits ingame would have been fun once and then gotten massively annoying every other time.
EDIT: just because something is awesome to watch doesn’t mean it’s awesome to play.
… even that the game is not perfect, at the end, playing the game is still a lot of fun … you can’t really compare ETQW vs. Brink … they are too different in many way’s … I reckon, that all the people who are complaining here, tried to buy ETQW-2 and got Brink and now they are wondering what went wrong … think before you pre-order / buy … I was never expecting ETQW-2, that’s why I’m happy with the game-play … 95% of the games we can buy these days are unfinished …
… or let’s compare every new game against the Duke … yes, after ~14 years of development, the Duke will be finally back … what do you expect ? … as a minimum, we should not be able to run the game with max settings on a high-end-gaming-machine, because the Duke is the maximum you can get in gaming, but oh surprise, it will have around the same specs as Brink …
… but who cares … I know, that all this marketing is bull****, but I was waiting since 1997 (?) for the Duke and therefore I pre-ordered the Game and I will be still happy to get it soon, even that it will be not the milestone we expected …
:stroggtapir:
It seems like it’s more likely that you’ve just created this account to vent, but I’d like to know how your question about the feelings of the people that created the product is a constructive way to address your issues with the product.
Even if you are genuinely interested, I don’t think the ‘feelings’ of the 70 or so people at SD will boil down neatly to the answer you seem to be hoping for.
Take a break, take up yoga.
Would much rather have wanted EA or THQ as publisher because… oh wait, they release bugged games and don’t bother patching
To summarize, OP is dumb, made account to chat rubbish.
Has no legitimate complaints.

It’s kinda sad that he isn’t even in the first 20 people to do this.
As someone said before, asking a developer how they feel for releasing a product is hardly useful.
They probably feel pretty good, going to work to do something they love, making games and tings.
I honestly couldn’t blame them for staying the hell away from these forums considering the shrieking drama queens all over the place.
I’m not saying the game is perfect by any means, it really needs a few extra maps, and public voip in freeplay. But most of it is solid for me and I’m having a great time ‘John Woo’ing it’ as I like to call it.
ah, hatewhoring !!
never sweet as 1st time !
hate harder !!
enjoys
p.s.
troll faster !
And what products have you provided to the public on a professional level? What creative endeavor have you given to the world? (This thread does not count, though bluntly stating that your troll thread is not one gets you +1 in something, I suppose.) What are your metacritic scores?
I love how new posters assume that Splash Damage’s forum is like Bethesda’s.
To answer the OPs question I imagine SD feel OK about themselves when they come into work each morning, because they know Brinks problems for the most part are not of their doing.
The publisher decides when to publish, not them, for all we know they may have wanted another year to finish the game but were not given it.
The game pretty much does what it was intended to do. If it doesn’t meet certain people’s expectations it’s because of those people’s expectations, not because SD didn’t produce the game they always intended to produce.
Where I would be embarassed is on certain technical issues like the missing sound from 2 maps initially. How was that not spotted before release? The bug that required them to disable demo recording, how was that not spotted? That smacks of really poor internal play testing IMO, and is something I’d be embarassed about if I worked for SD.
Other than that I think there are many forces beyond SDs control at work here, and without knowing the inside story it’s a bit too easy to lay blame at SDs door when it should probably be laid elsewhere.
@topic creator…
They got their money (more than any of their previous games).
I think sadly they are happy (and they will slowly improve the game; good or bad thats your pick).
Perhaps they just didn’t occur on the small controlled networks at Splash Damage HQ or Bethesda? And I’m fairly certain that Bethesda handled much of the play-testing duties too. Have to re-check the credits to confirm.
Not a troll thread
released the unpolished abomination known as Brink
Hmmmmmmm…

Professional generally means getting paid for it. If he’s being paid to write trolling flamebait then I think there’s a larger issue going on here (get out your X-files hats) but I doubt it

Far too many tapirs for this to be Bethesda’s forum. Not that their forum is bad but it is super-strict.
Here’s an interesting read for people who still do not understand the relationship between publisher and developer:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Publishing
Just like the music industry most of the money goes to the publisher since they assume most of the risk up front (this is obviously a generalisation and depends on specific contracts). Just like the music industry it’s difficult to go solo as the creator (author, musician, game dev, whatever). Very few are in the position of being both the creator and publisher of their works and the publisher has a lot of sway over how things are released and whatnot (again: contracts).
If I worked at SD I’d be proud of my creation and kind of confused by some of the more “out there” posts in the forums. Kind of like how a parent must feel when their teenager is shouting at them about how much they hate them.
Were there mistakes? Some. Were they all SD’s fault? Nope. Will SD try and fix them all? Probably.
I also note that the game was only released May 10th and it’s only June 1st now. Less than 1 month and they’ve already done various tweaks and patches to try fix everything for their community (and I’m sure they’ve been waiting a lot on ATI getting their butts into gear) and yet they still take flak. And now there are posts complaining about the free DLC? Really? A boycott the DLC thread on the Beth forums??? Boycott the free DLC??? sigh
I guess it’s true what they say about only being able to please some of the people all of the time or all of the people some of the time (and none of the trolls ever!).
