When maps for Quake World Team Fortress were made, a fairly obvious decision was taken - the spawns were given doors that only the home team could open, and stuffed full of medpacks.
It wasn’t enough. They were given walls of pure force that hurled the opposing team back out again.
It still wasn’t enough. They were given big cattle grid like things to swallow grenade spam.
After all this, it was playable.
This was about 8 years ago now.
Today, I was accused of spawn camping in ET. This is because the way to the objective on Oasis involves running straight past the axis spawn, and there was a guy about 6 feet outside it lying down with an MG picking of the allies. I saw. I shot. I was complained about. Loudly. By the guy with the MG. To be honest, I reckon he needs more imagination. On gold rush he could kill allies with a mortar without actually leaving the spawn atall. Go on. Kill that without spawn camping.
Now, generally I reckon spawn camping is annoying, pathetic, skill-less, and not in keeping with the rest of the game. But if the maps are going to put the gold practically in the %£$* spawn how are you supposed to play?
“Excuse me Mr Gestapo, can we have our ball back please?”
