Sniper reward.

(Jahuu) #1

There should be a reward given to the best sniper, the one who shoots most accuratetly with scoped weapon. The shots counted in are those shot while scoping.

This would show is the most accurate sniper, rather than the current reward, which shows who has shotten most people with the PF, 150% accuracy and all that.

(BondyBoy007) #2

Prehaps this award could be called “Best Sniper (Good shot, but was useless in aiding the team)”

(Belisarius) #3

IMHO, I don’t think there should be any rewards for campers. And not for mortar kills either.

My point exactly, BondyBoy

(BondyBoy007) #4

motar kills do serve a purpose on some maps if used correctly - Playing as Allied on Battery they’re useful for clearing the ground at the top of the ramp (especially if there are enemy covert ops constantly destoying the ramp or waiting for it to be built)

But camping snipers are useless, prehaps there should be a camping reward at the end to try and embarrass the offenders from doing it again

(Maple) #5

Snipers can be useful too. Just not when they’re camping out for the whole game.

(BondyBoy007) #6

if they change their weapon and support the team after their job has been done then yes, they’re alright, but more often than not they don’t and they stay there the entire map

(Belisarius) #7

Yeah, I know mortars are useful as well as team-saving. It was just my own bitterness since I’m so daft it takes about 4 boom-splat deaths before it sinks in “riiight, don’t go where the mortar is zeroed in”. :blah:

Hmm…good idea…maybe a “Camper award” much like the “Ain’t got no friends award”. Sadly there’s n00bs around in abundance that would never take the hint. :moo: (if you follow a sniper in limbo, check his battle sense…always makes for a good smirk when you find a sniper with huge XP and no battle sense stars at all…)

But camping snipers are useless

A good sniper can turn the balance of a round. It’s just poeple who whine about get being hit by someone they can’t see that claim that snipers are useless.

As an example, I was sniping on Fuel Dump from the small rocks by the furthest caves exit. I was able to pick off the four guys holding the door (1 up top and three around the inside of the doorway) and then the rest of my team was able to wander in with minimal resistance and plant to win.

I believe snipers are the key role on Fuel Dump. They are next to useless on some maps, but fuel dump can be won and lost by the skill of a few snipers. A few good snipers on the axis team can stop the allieas from ever building the bridges.

Yes, bad snipers who spend an entire match sat in some crappy spot and do little to help their team are bad players. But that doesn’t mean snipers are useless, only the players. Remember, guns don’t kill people and neither do shit players.

(BondyBoy007) #9

OK so a good sniper can turn a match around, but I’ve not seen any of them while I was “limboing” more often than not they’re camping miles from the action eg allied sniper on battery on a rock in the sea while his team-mates are inside at the gun or gen

(Ragnar_40k) #10

One good Field Ops can do this too.

And maybe there should be a awards for these players who traveled the longest/shortest distance during a round. For the shortest distance we can call this the “Sniper award”.

(Belisarius) #11

…but not a single sniper. Good teamwork between soldiers/field ops/medics can also stop the allies building the bridge. I had a game a few days ago and the play on this map was beautiful. We were constantly about 6-8 axis players on the allied side of the bridge, backing each other up. The allies didn’t even get close. (I also discovered in limbo that we had two guys at the ‘back’ passage at the footbridge).

As for snipers playing a ‘key role’ on Fuel Dump? Nah, unlikely. I’m willing to give that award to the Covert Ops pants-stealing fetish dudes, who I’ve seen more than once walk right through the entire map into the base without anyone reacting.

Indeed. I’ve held the Tram lower tower flag (from the ground level) for around 10mins on my own before. Sniping guys that show their heads in the tram bay, and lobbing nades into the down trams.

Some of the “victims” are so stupid they keep coming at you from the same place, in the same way. Now that’s just asking to be sniped.

Excuse me but where’s the Tram in ET? is this a new level? Or are you on about Tram map in RTCW?

:banghead:

(Dies Irae) #14

My particular point of view about the snipers:

Very usefull for the team, if they are good.

I have seen 3 axis snipers stoping the allies on the fuel dump map. but man, those guys (all from the same clan. sorry don’t remember the name of the clan) are really good snippers. On that map the rest of the team become useless.

BUT… Several times (90%+) there are some snippers that are really useless with a really poor accuracy and timming, those guys really need to be another class, can be a good support for the team with a panzer stoping the tank than a camping sniper that never kills.

(damocles) #15

It’s all very well saying crap snipers should play another class, but how are they going to improve if they don’t snipe? This is after all a game and people should be able to play any class they want without other poeple bitching about how they aren’t very good.

It reminds me of a while ago when some prick started moaning because I was using the engineer’s nade launcher. I happen to be a bit handy with it and can kill people at very long distances with it. So this idiot starting calling vote after vote to get me kicked and when I asked him why he said it was because I use the K43 and that’s a n00b weapon. After vote after vote failed, he said “right, if you’re going to use that shit weapon then I’m going to go panzer”. “ok” I said. He went panzer and about 5 minutes later he finally got his chance to hit me with the panzer and kill me. Then he piped up saying “Ha, I owned your ass with my panzer”. And that was how it ended. I ignored him and he sulked off. But for around 15 minutes this guy really pissed my off with votes and constant crap about how nade launcher is a n00bs weapon and any idiot can kill everyone with it. I only stayed on the server cos some people I like to play with were there, but this prick was ruining my fun simply because he doesn’t like a particular weapon.

So next time you feel the need to start complaining about weapons and balance, just think about what you’re saying instead of rattling off hyperbole.

You all seem to think that snipers suck, think of this:

At fueldump you can own the map as axis having 4 covops, 1 fieldop, 1medic and 1 engy. This is how:

-Make 3 covops snipers with K43, not FG-42 after all I said snipers not toygunners.
-Make 1 covop footbridge blower (with a sten)
-Make the field op and the medic a moving health and ammo cabinet.

You can keep the allies out from blowing the sewer grate for 10 mins, then you need someone to watch your back for 20.

Although I prefer sten, knife and satchel as covops, I still like sniping at some maps, like fueldump for example, but not the original way, the best thing you can do is to go by the footbridge, go to allied spawn, hide behind a cabin and snipe their backs !

([=O=]SMYLER) #17

I used to snipe a lot on Tram in vanilla wolf and it was satisfying, for me at least. I have never really tried it in ET but one thing I havn’t tried either is the mortar as it MUST be a boring as fuck as you never get to see what you did, even if you nail 4 enemies in one go you have probably done it from the safety of “just outside the spawn” as all the confirmed mortar boys are doing now.

Don’t get me wrong do what you like and I quite like 'em too and I’ll fill the buggers up with ammo to achieve a few stars on my signals tally, but it MUST be boring. I’ve been on ventrilo with my clan mates and yes it’s been said “look at such and such a player hes’s lethal with the old mortars” and the reply has often been “yeah he is but, shit it’s gotta be boring the tits offa him”.

So there ya go in my opinion sniping is fun (for the individual) and mortars look pretty boring to me.

Oh yeah another thing, no matter what an enemy is killed with, thats an enemy thats not going to get in some ones way or achieve something for their team, so every kill is beneficial to your team, with mortar, sniper rifle or whatever.

(Jahuu) #18

Funniest thing with mortars is, as covops putting a satchel on their head and BOOM!

All they know is:

Hey I hear footsteps, oh it is only one of our team members he has our uniform, wait is he giving me ammo or what is that sound of he dropping something on me…

…Respawning in 59 seconds, doh!

(No1_sonuk) #19

Yup, Vanilla Wolf. Last I checked, this was a “General Discussion” forum, not ET specific.

(Belisarius) #20

More than likely most mortar boys also have “fixed” positions memorized, so all they have to do is to set up camp, adjust the vertical scale to reach just that particular spot they ALWAYS fire at and sit there all day. Fun game - fire fire fire*…V22 …fire fire fire… V22…you get the idea.
