Similarities between QW and Q4

I preordered the game today, and got all itchy for some nice Strogg blasting action, so I fired up Q4.
I was surprised to see that even in Q4 the strogg have attack craft very similar to the Hornet, or whatever it is called now. And they also have turrets that are deployed from space.
So it’s nice to see that connection between the 2 games.

My FX 5200 gets decent framerates (30-40) on the lowest resolution but with bumpmaps and everything but shadows turned on, so I’m hoping it should give me 20-30s for QW.

FX 5200, isn’t that a PCI video card? Anyway, you need to spend the 50-100$ and get a decent video card :stuck_out_tongue: Try running Q4 in multiplayer mode. It might give you a better idea of how QW will run on your system than the single player portion of the game.

The FX series is pretty ancient by todays standards :\ I suggest getting a 6800 if your on a budget or going for a 7800-7900.

Mine is an AGP.
Good idea about trying out multiplayer, I’ll give that a shot.
I think I did try it once, and everything was really bright and washed out.

I currently have a 6800 nVidia and i would ‘imagine’ that my framerate is ok in QW but i would recommend the 7xxx series or even an 8800 for optimal framerate. This is all just ‘speculation’ of course. :roll:

good luck with multiplayer…i have a 6800 and could not play online. but single player was fine.

There are more similarities between
Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
than between
Quake 4 and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.

not as far as required specs go, my geforce 2 MX400 will run ET, so will my TI 4600, my FX 5700 ultra (if it still worked) might run QW, the other 2, I don’t think so

lol, gameplay wise of course, but we are talking about graphics and performance, in which QW should be much more similar to Q4.

Jeeves try turning off shadows, AA, AF, and other eye candy options. The CPU could always be a bottleneck too.

As for good cards… like said before gforce 7xxx (at least 7600gt) or ATI x1xxx series or higher (I’d say at least x1650xt). These suggestions are for running the game in 1280x1024 or 1024x768 (and I know I haven’t played it so can’t be sure) with at least 2x AA. I’m hoping to play the game with an X800XL with no shadows 2x AA at 12x10 with at least medium texture and quality settings.

BTW, if you are using AGP best card is x1950 Pro for it at the moment. I think the x1900xtx is coming to AGP and who knows maybe even a DX 10 card.

I would think your TI 4600 would be better than the FX 5700 ultra… I’ve never heard anything good about the FX series, but I did have a TI 4200 that was a very good card for a good long time.

afaik, no one has even hinted at a DX10 AGP card, just PCI:E x 16

get 90 fps max with ti, 125 capped with 5700, the FX cards from 5700 on are great, the 5200 gets lousy framerates even in ET

ATI has hinted at it. They sold a lot of x1950 pros, but I don’t expect anything form Nvidia (they haven’t made good AGP cards since 6800 GT/Ultra imo).

So far the only card that is would actually be bottlenecked by the AGP bandwidth limitation is Geforce 8800GTX, so there could be a decent AGP made for those who would rather upgrade their old graphics card on their speedy socket 939 x2 without getting new CPU, ram, mobo…

so do I and I play with all settings on HIGH & 2x anti aliasing and it runs fine.

Quakeworld is pretty different from Q4. For a start it has aircontrol and doesn’t have railgun.

by playable i mean not dropping to below 40 in a fight with more than 2 ppl on the screen. that is UNPLAYABLE for the type of game that is. sure you can still play it, but it would suck immensely. for single player 30 fps is fine. i don’t have to worry about being at a disadvantage cause its against ai.

my 6200 TC was fine with Q4 on low graphics

you have 6800 with 128MB or 256mb? maybe that’s the difference

Yea it does make quite a big gap between 6800LE 128mb and 6800Ultra, but Q4 MP should still be playable with any of the 6800-series. Maybe your cpu sucks, or ram.
