That would be great…Shrub Mod is a lot of fun.

There is a shrub mod. Take a look at shrub’s ET server 205.177.13.20:27961. There are old shrub commands and new features implemented. You can use +salute to shove people and it saves your XP if you get disconnected to name a few. I don’t know when or if the mod will be made public, but it’s definitely there.

“That would be great…Shrub Mod is a lot of fun.”

Err, styx, could you explain how? Are stats somehow “fun”? Maybe those “Kill one in a hundered” mines possibly? Maybe it’s fun to shoot a chair and get a confirmation that you just did? I’m just having trouble seeing the “intuition” in a mod that adds little more than a really poor excuse for a shoving command.

Yawn,

Its getting old getting Ignorant posts from people that are obviously not seasoned RTCW/ET players. (or use a search function)
I.E. I’m glad the developers are seasoned players and can overlook most of the Ignorant posts.

:skull:

I love Shrub. I like the high achievers stats and etc. I don’t know… more stuff but it was my favorite mod by far.

(duke'ku) #9

Majikthise is more of a seasoned vet than you are, I would put money on it.

(Spooky Fodder) #10

Nah Majikthise is a noob. :bump:

(Majikthise) #11

Spooky! Good lord man, where have you been? Haven’t seen you since Konijn. Nor have I seen you on ET :P. A lot of us are on ET now too. And yea, playing since mptest1 pretty much defines me as falling into the category of, “obviously not seasoned RTCW/ET players.”.

The reason I dislike shrubmod, is not so much the mod itself, as it is the players thinking it’s the only mod there is. Look at any poll that asks about shrub, bani, osp, ww, wt, etc., and shrub wins by about 90%. Considering banimod has pretty much everything shrub has (oh wait, no stats? egad! you kids can’t brag with it! the horror!), plus about 10 times more content, I see no reason to see shrubmod as better. Also, correct me if I’m wrong here, but banimod seems to fix a lot more stock bugs/problems than shrubmod, not to mention bani updates FAR more often than shrub.

So, I think you can see why I’d be bitter about these rumors of only shrub getting the source code, considering how incredibly limiting, and negative, that would be to the comunity. That and shrubmod doesn’t need any more advertisement than it already gets.

Well Looking at the post and thinking that shrub is only a “mod that adds little more than a really poor excuse for a shoving command.” leads me to believe that the person really doesn’t know the mod. (For example: It would be Like saying bani mod only has those guys that fly)

Keep your money where its safe,
I’m going by what I read.

“adds little more”…

  • added MP40/Thompson rate of fire control
  • added kickable airstrikes
  • added relaxed air strike blocking
  • added ability to zero LT charge on round start
  • added ability to adjust ammo/grenade pack throw rate
  • added customizable objective spawning
  • added anti-shove code to prevent shoving teammates to their death
  • added smoke grenades
  • added grenade packs
  • added poison needles
  • added weapon unlocking
  • added goomba killing
  • added throwable knives
  • added LT binocular drop on limbo
  • added medic health pack(s) drop on limbo
  • added engineer grenade(s) drop on limbo
  • team counts now displayed in /classes
  • added pistol only and needle only modes
  • ammo capping changed significantly
  • added ability to destroy own objectives
-added cvars for med/engr grenades and clips
-added cvar for fatigue recharge rate
    -added corpse dragging
  • added playing dead
-added special soldier weapons limiting feature
  • added private messaging feature
-medics can revive underwater through g_waterRevive
  • added objective dropping
  • added “On my way” voice chat
  • flamers can damage themselves in ff-off mode throughg_flameDamage
  • added censored word penalty (gibs players who say a censored word)
  • dynamite warnings are now adjustable
-added location of downed player to medic reminders
  • helmet protection is now customizable

Those are just a few things in shrub that allow the server master to customize their server.

And how many of those does banimod not have? Not many, I can say that. Many of it was in banimod first, too. Oh, and did I add that shrub has some nice holes left in some of his cvars? There are some bugs he didn’t quite notice that can crash the client…

Regardless of which is “better”, has it been confirmed whether or not there really is a Shrub (or Bani) mod for E.T.? Cos if there is that presumably means one or the other has the source code (or can it all be done through modified pk3 files?). I was under the impression SD were not going to release the source code.

“Considering banimod has pretty much everything shrub has (oh wait, no stats? egad! you kids can’t brag with it! the horror!), plus about 10 times more content, I see no reason to see shrubmod as better.”

cough thanks for proving my point.

I am a fan of both Bani and Shrub as well as others. MJ and I go back a long way. For that matter I go back a long way. hehe. Both he and I are very familiar with the shrub mod…it is in use on our RTCW gaming comunity server Konijn. Correct me if I am wrong Majikthise, but I think MJ was being sarcastic about Shrub’s additions to the game. Bani as well offers a miriad of functions, classes and addons to Wolf. Also Bani has already ported its mod for ET. For more info on Bani see http://bani.anime.net/banimod/ I have played on Shrub’s ET server but am not aware if he has ported the mod over yet. I am also concerned about exclusivity when it comes to releasing the code. Time will tell whether or not it is just a rumour.

We miss you at the forums MJ. I am pretty much hooked on ET now :  I amlost always play on one of the Packet’s Pipe servers or MCP’s Game Grid. It’d be nice to see you out on the field of battle. Its been awhile. Try not to let the younguns get under your skin my friend…they know not what they do :  Not that we do either but hey :stuck_out_tongue:
Peace

cough thanks for proving my point.

It would a been alot easier to just say that you like Bani mod more than shrub, instead of your tangent on stats.

(Kendle) #18

Has he? Where does it say that?

(Majikthise) #19

The banimod forums have a section to discuss ET, but he hasen’t made the mod for ET yet (unless he’s secretly devloping it :P).

And my point with all this is that shrubmod gets WAY too much credit. I’ve played both mods very extesively, and I can safely say banimod has more features/fixes. shrubmod gets well over 100% more recognition than banimod (I’ll not include other mods in this discusion, I’m just talking about server side feature/fix mods), yet banimod has quite a bit more content to it. I will say shrub’s freeze tag was very neat, but nobody plays it. Granted, banimod has play modes that aren’t played too (cough assassin :P), but goldrush mode alone makes up for that. People say, “shrubmod is so fun!”, but I don’t see how they figure that. My point with the stats is, how do they make the mod fun? Might as well try to say osp is “fun”. Yet with banimod, goldrush really IS fun. The new classes really ARE fun.

I personally blame the Happy Penguin servers for it. The admin (can I say his name here?) started running shrubmod, and with the MASSIVE amount of people that go through HP, a lot of people were exposed to it. Also, I think anyone who has played wolf extensively know that HP is pretty much synonymous with poor sportsmanship and attitude. Those same people, frankly, aren’t that bright (not all of them obviously), and just latched onto shrub, and spread the word to their friends. From there on, it just got worse.

If anyone can give me a good solid reason why shrubmod is at least 90% more recognized than banimod, than I’ll give you a peanut butter cookie. But, if they were at least somewhat equally regarded, I’d be nice and quiet.

Nothing like beating around the bush to make a point.
