why has this happened. bani is just as popular as shrub but somhow shrub gets the code and bani is ignored. this is my plea to SD give bani the code he wants it so much.
shrub has source code why not bani
secondly, bani has actually been listening to the pleas of the people on this forum. He can take his knowledge of modding, and combine it with our results of debating weapon balance and bugs, and combine them to futher improve ET.

It is a little weird that OSP is in the game, and Shrub is already working on ETShrub, and Bani is S.O.L.
It’s prolly just knowing someone that knows someone…
However, I believe that the shrub mod is much more popular overall in Wolf as compared to the banimod.
Personall, I’m not a big fan of banimod, but that’s just me

Whoa, suckage?! That would be so low… did SD ever respond to this? Did shrub? Will I get flamed for not using the search function?
However, I believe that the shrub mod is much more popular overall in Wolf as compared to the banimod.
Yeah well but that doesn’t mean shit. The Amiga died because of bad marketing etc, Microsoft is #1 because of aggressive marketing and viciousness, while producing bloatware that would make grown coders cry, raping standards left and right… err sorry I forgot to take my pills, I guess you get the idea.
Before I get flamed, know that I don’t say shrub is popular although it sucks - to the contrary, it’s just that they BOTH r0ck t3h h34vy rul4g3 in my books!
Personall, I’m not a big fan of banimod, but that’s just me
I’m a fan of both… it took a while before I used ASE, so it was more or less random chance wether the server I joined was vanilla/OSP/bani/shrub - and the thing I’ve grown most fond of was more starting ammo (for medics) and the ability to pick up weapons. Both had that, everything else I didn’t concern myselves with much at first. But if pressed, I’d say I have the fonder memories I have of banimod: simply because of the deployable mg42, using TNT as a trap (shooting it), the spy, the commanding officer and the shotgun (I love it), lo-grav instagib goldrush on ice (which is the only rtcw I played yet since I tried ET, yay for Goldrush!!).
Elsewhere on this forum I read that bani had quite a bit features and bug fixes first… that tells me he must know what he’s doing, no? If there are reasons to assume shrub would know his stuff so much better that it’s obvious that he should get the source while bani doesn’t, I’d love to hear them. And hey, if it really should boil down to “knowing an insider”, I have to say it’d be very weak of shrub to not try to persuade them to give the source to bani too, if not childish.
By the way, I never understood why bani and shrub never made a banishrub mod… and I guess I’m not the first to ask that question? Programming so many stuff twice, some of it “simply” because it’s a logical extension of what’s there, like inventing the wheel twice… and as inventor of the wheel you’d never say “hey, use another shape, I came up with a circle first! Try a square or an ellipse or something!”.
Anyway, my point is: I hope bani gets the source.
Maybe I’ve just not read all the info there is, but I still haven’t seen confirmation that Shrub was given the source. It would make sense that he has it, considering the in-progress mod work. Maybe someone out there doesn’t want to fess up to leaking the source to shrub first?
On to the topic at hand though, I would assume bani would most likely be working on the bugs in ET first off. Bani fixed more bugs in RtCW than anyone else, and made patches to the game rather pointless. Tell bani about a bug, and it’ll be fixed within 24 hours (if even that long). Now correct me if I’m wrong, but all shrub has done is add features, correct? Maybe SD knows this, and doesn’t want competition with their future client patches.
As for Activison (I read they are the ones who can release the source, maybe SD gives permission to do so. Perhaps I’m wrong though),giving only shrub the source is, well… favoritism within an established game company is about as unprofessional as it gets. If SD actually expects to get any respect for this game, doing things like denying the source code because they aren’t good enough friends with the person is going to get them EXACTLY the opposite desired effect. There are many people within the community who enjoy banimod, and denying them it for ET simply because of a popularity contest is one hell of a slap in the face. As soon as I heard rumors of shrub getting the source… and ONLY shrub, I felt SD had let us down, it was a direct insult to the community.
Now, they are simply not saying a word about the whole issue, and more importantly, not releasing the source, or even giving any indication when they will. Maybe they want this game to go downhill rather quickly, to cause everyone to crave the next RtCW game. And I think it’s safe to say that being this disrespectful to the community who supports their game is the fastest way to do so. It’s rather sad to see such attitudes in game developers.
Well that was just a guess… I dunno how else to explain how one person has it and others don’t so I was just assuming…
As for Shrub and Banimod, any extra features offered by either really don’t do much for me, but if either were willing to correct some of the bugs I would be all for it.
There are PLENTY of bugs out there (as everyone knows) and even though I don’t really care for Bani, anyone who could fix some of these would be much appreciated
Ike-T
splashdamage have no say in who gets the code. thats purely id/activision’s decision.
Well replace all instances of “SD” or “Splashdamage” above with id/Activision then
So, nobody feels like explaining why only shrub has the source, huh? Way to take responcibility.
SD doesn’t make the decision of who gets what, or what they can say.
Go yell at Activision, they make the rules.
It was Activision that Shrub got the source from…not from a leak or anything.
I started a thread on this subject a month and a half ago.(shrub for et 6/4/03)
I should of been more specific at the time in that I was refering to was looked like the sdk code had been released, because I had found stats that showed so. My actual idea at the time was for someone to fess up that the sdk had been actually released to someone. (NOT that one was better, or to bring attention to one over the other-I like both- and I could not really see Activision releasing it to only one mod maker in the community) If it was a know fact that it had been released (and knowing bani frequents these forums) it would imo also get released to him also. I am still having a hard time in comprehending why Activision has not released it to bani.
lol
slap in the face to the community
heh - i wouldnt read too much into it guys - OSP guys and shrub had a great oppurtunity to collaborate on et - its fantastic that decision was ever made. They got some of their stuff integrated into the game.
its a lot of free hardwork - whether youre ito bani - shrub or not.
that said …
i like some of what bani and shrub did, but it was alittle over the top - puking ammo when you get fragged etc but also some really cool ideas - very fun
Why mock banimod? No point to it. It is obviously liked by some people, or this topic wouldn’t be here.
And FstFngrz, asking SD to give you answers isn’t going to work. I am sure they aren’t suppose to talk about how and why things like this get realesed. Its all up to activision.
SD couldn’t even announce they realesed the map editor untill a while after Activision did, why? because they didn’t want to tell us? No… Acitivision made them.
Go yell at Activision.
