OMG, I just checked www.ardiem.net and it’s gone… The forums, gone, last week Ryan posted something about the low priority of ShrubET, but I don’t know if this was meant to be this way. Were it just payment problems or is ShrubET gone?
I really need a rehab if ShrubET will have no resume anymore… :poke:
Shrub for ET = Back and better than ever 8)
Never followed or played much of Shrub but my only suggestion is, believe it or not, ETPro. Check out http://bani.anime.net/etpro/ I think… its deffo worth a look m8 if you’ve never tried it/looked into it.
The site and forums could be gone for a number of reasons, as you suggested maybe missed payments? The hosting could be exp problems? Try the Shrub ET IRC channel if they have one? Ask about other channels, clans, shrub players or shrub based league/scrimm sites…
I see it also, the ET-specific Manuals are lost because ardiem.net is offline! :disgust:
Write a Feedback to the shrubmod-team…
(NdK)
I don’t like ETPro, too serious mod for me. I don’t need bugfixes, I need extra, fun, options.
Also ET Pro while adds some good things is a full mod nothign kills a pub faster than having something people need to download and figure out how to run. That was Shrubs biggest point its server only. I hope he comes back someplace either here or PW to release the beta to everyone like he said was going to happen.
That’s the best bit! Client download = noob filter ;)[/quote]
Downloading at 3 kb/s aint cool…
Yes it is and its also a way to stress myself out having to answer my regs questions on how to do everything. I will stick to shrub for right now. Works for me and if shrub really does release the beta even better.
The documentation is still available in the ShrubET zipfile, and the Shrub homepage is still up. It’s been a long time since it was updated though, and I think there were some real life (whatever that is) issues that made Shrub cancel the TourneyMod.
Dem fi newest version ? :eek2: Holy peep, and I see that URL everywhere, and never even go there?!
Edit: How much I love you right now (Yes, I do like boys too :P)
And, yes his forums/website was b0rked earlier but it
is back.
SiliconSlick (glad to see he finally released the beta to the public)
isnt 1.2 closed beta?
nothing on planetwolfenstein.com/shrubet so I’m assuming it’s still private.
Shrub rocks!! :rocker2: New version is nice. I especially like the ctf mode altho the set spawn command dosent work
I had a few people playin ctf quake style with high speeds low grav and instaspawn. fun stuff.
I agree with h0nd shrub = fun etpro = boring
Shrub = too many major gameplay changes that degrade teamwork.
ETPro = more competitive.
Everyone has their own idea of what constitutes “fun”. I know what mine is

I agree but gameplay changes are what keeps the game interesting. its always nice to see something new. Take those “I wana play the same 6 maps all the time” people. Thats gota get so old.
If I could snap my fingers and make Shrub die (the mod, not the guy, I’m not THAT rotten) and dissappear from all servers, I would do it in a heartbeat. RTCW/ET have been half destroyed by that garbage mod, because at least half the servers are running it, and I REFUSE to play anything but the real game. Why is it that ever since CS every Tom, Dick and Harry wants to make a mod (OK Shrub isn’t a TC but still)? I don’t want to join a server and find that some yahoo has tweaked the shove thing and everybody is pushing each other around the map, or has made instant powerbar recharges and ppl are running around leaving trails of ammo packs. And I don’t want yet another “score” for people to chase (that stupid binocular thing); if I wanted to run around collecting the most binoculars I’d just play Pacman and chase bouncing fruit.
ETPro I can deal with, because it’s less game-altering, but I still filter it out with ASE.
I may sound like an a-hole, but I really am angered by mod makers. Luckily ET was free, but if I had paid $50 for it, only to have half the servers be rendered completely unenjoyable (for me), I would be very, very upset indeed. I think if you’re going to make a mod, you should poll the most active sites in that game’s community and follow the wishes of the players. Yes, most ppl jump on the bandwagon immediately (the number of Shrub servers proves that. “What, there’s a new mod? Kewl, where do I get it?” - Sight unseen), but at least there would be a chance to shoot a mod down before it takes over a beloved game.
Same goes for maps. If your map sucks (yes, I know all your friends are kissing your ass and telling you it rules, but they may be wrong, trust me), do NOT release it, for the love of humanity! Many, many servers have been ruined (for me at least) by the addition of horrendous mostrosities of badly designed maps. The “kewlest” map ideas are not always the most fun to play on, and every time a map is released, at least one server will add it “just because”.
Please, think of the community before you release your creations. The craving for peer attention blinds people at times I think. If it sucks (ask people you don’t know, start a poll, something), keep it to yourself and your friends!
As for that CTF thing, and servers with instant panzer loads, low gravity, blah blah… Why not just PLAY Q3 instead of turning ET into it? I bought CoD, and I’ve uninstalled it because I finished SP on Veteran mode and MP is yet another Q3 clone, in 1940’s clothes. I fell in love with ET because of it’s complex, objective-based teamplay aspects. The CoD objective modes result in an elimination mode 90% of the time, because rather than going for the objectives, one team just tries to kill off the other (I have a couple ideas to “fix” CoD, but that’s another forum). If I wanted to run around and frag, I would play SoF2 (and I do, when that’s the mood I’m in). I watch clan demos and long to join a good clan, that plays as a team, with the objective being king, but when I see their skill I realize I just don’t have it, and would never be accepted. But still, I try to find good pubs with players who think like me, and want to see their team’s flag flying at the end of the round, rather than clicking “More” and hoping they are at the top of the list.
May ET never be destroyed! May a new version be released one day on a new id engine! May there always be a game for people like me, who get totally immersed in the subtle intricacies of timing, teamwork and accomplishment that a “run & frag” game can never provide! sigh
Well Bludd, I’m sorry that you’ve had such a bad experience with shrub but I play and admin 2 servers that run shrub. Both use shrub more as a tool for enforcing server rules like “no spawnkilling” and to help bypass minor flaws in the ET server configs. In regular ET, you can’t disorient someone to get your point across if they are spawn killing and still keep the gameplay going. On shrub, 9 times out of 10 the player will realize he violated a server rule after being disoriented and everyone will enjoy the game much more after that. We are also able to have multiple levels of admins in shrub with increasing responsibility so that we can have some sense of order with the admins and also recognize server regulars. We do have the shove enabled but it is a very minimal amount and settings like the powerbar recharge rates and gravity are not through shrub, they are in the regular server configs.
As for the binoc master, that is something that can be enabled/disabled and I definitely agree with your view that it is more of a gimmick and can divert attention from the team aspect that ET is so famous for.
I guess what I’m basically saying is you can find shrub servers that are run by admins who know how to utilize the mod to enhance the gameplay, which is something I think the servers I play on have successfully done. I really think you should try to get a broader experience with shrub and ETPro because I think you will find that there are servers that are able to utilize the features of those mods to improve the gameplay you enjoy.
I suppose, but it just bothers me, the new “tweaks” available to admins. It makes me uneasy, I never know what I’m getting into on a Shrub server. I just want to play ET, not someone’s idea of how ET should have been made. OK fine, the airstrike in the bank bug is fixed, swell. I’ve been the victim of that bug twice in my many many months of play. I admit it’s a great bug fix, but given time SD took care of it. OK, I can shove a teammate out of the way. I admit that can be handy for an AFKer, but I’ve never seen door blocking used maliciously, because on a pub he would just be shot, teammate or not, and in a clanmatch that sort of lame play isn’t a problem. In other words, it’s a good idea, but not really needed, and the abuse potential by dodgy admins outweighs it’s minimal benefits. I think the best aspect of Shrub is the team damage percentile kicking. I was kicked by that method myself (mines + newbs = kicked), but last I heard that flaw had been fixed, so yes I like that part. Another idea is a CoD option: reflective damage. Any damage inflicted to a teammate hurts YOU, not him. Pretty much ends TKing, quickstyle.
Anyway, for the one real benefit to players, TD %, I don’t see an entire mod with all the other junk added being necessary. As for the server admin features, hey, great, fine. But that could be done with an admin mod and not change the game for me the player.
