Thats ok. I guess the 1024 is more challenging than everyone would have guessed. The LMS was new to us all (/me speaks for myself and go-gerbils). I guess this combo was not for beginners, well I have been mapping less than a year now and consider myself a beginner.

here is a updated status list:

  • Seven_dc status: Allmost ready. Needs litlle more details and few texture fixes.
  • Go-Gerbil status: needs detail and lights
  • Joops Sloop status: Needs scripting and lights
  • Detoeni (UK) status: Ready.
  • Red*Uk status: Done. The competition entry has been sent.
  • Irrelevant status: ??? unknown ???
  • RealBreezer status: given up hope.
  • D3C0Y status: given up hope.
  • HairyPlums status: ??? unknown ???
  • [TFA]Violator status: Allmost ready.
  • Mindlink status: Allmost ready Command map missing and some detail work

If you do run another contest let me know and I can set it up as a sticky thread. I’m assuming that you want to run it at this forum again. Prefabs are always good if they are themed together as a pack for people to use.

Sorry guys, I’ve been unholily busy with stuff IRL, and I’ve barely even got the basic layout brushwork down. I’ve got some major exams coming up, and my teachers have gone hyperactive with the homewrok. Maybe next time. :frowning:

I might try to get some speedhacking done for the 28th, but don’t expect anything. Once again, sorry.

Btw. I wouldn’t put up a vote for deciding the best map.

  1. You can give only one vote and not multiple points (map a 5 points, map b 4 points and so on)
  2. You can’t vote on diffrent aspects of the maps (gameplay/looks etc)
  3. If you do an open vote not the best map will win but the mapper who can mobilize most people to click for him (apart from being able to fake those votes pretty easily)
    Imho it would be better to find 3 or 4 well respected and good mappers and let them give points, for example :

Voting categories are :
Gameplay
Brushwork
Atmosphere/Overall Impression

You can give points to 5 maps in each category, the best will get 5 points, the second 4, the third 3, the fourth 2 and the last 1 point.
The winner will be the map with the most total points. If a draw should arise it’s up to the jury to decide on a final winner.

That’s just an example, you could set it up different, but it would make more sense imho.

Good idea MinLink. I was thinking this kind of voting system myself. Maybe you are right. We should vote giving points in one post.
After I am done building the pk3 and releasing it I shall create a voting thread and a voting template. I shall create excel sheet
and post some statistics…

At the original contest at fragpoint.de three mappers have judged the maps.
They haven’t done mapping for the contest. Only judgement.

The categories (max points) have been:
gameplay (20)
ideas (25)
visual effects/conversion (30)
brushwork (15)
completeness (10)

That makes a maximum of 100 points.

Just to give an idea.

That seems like overkill, and of course is still biased, since certain areas score more - with score bandings entirely arbitrary and decided by the person who came up with the scoring!

How about we run two polls? 1 is yer usual poll - the public’s opinion.
The second is a text entry where each mapper who entered the competition rates all the maps except their own?

I’d simply say something like each mapper pics the best map from one of several catagories, eg:

  • Best looking
  • Best playing
  • Most original idea

etc.

Then rather than an overall winner we get winners in different catagories.
After all this isn’t so much a ‘best map overall’ competition as opposed to simply a community effort for a bit of fun.

Hi!

SiliconSlick has contacted me about the verification of the pk3 file and we have discussed what should be done.

I think here is the scope:

  1. The competition pk3 is relased in 28.3.2004 - 29.3.2004
    The pk3 includes all the maps as they are, just copy & paste them into your etmain.
    No sources are included. *

  2. After the testing and voting the final pk3 is relased.
    This is a change of fixing possible bugs in map, no gameplay or big changes are allowed. The second pk3 is going to be
    as clean as possible meaning the siliconslick’s script will give clean result. no sources.*

  • the sources are distributed as separate zip file.

btw the siliconslick is offering run the maps in 3 servers one running campaing, one running LMS and one running stopwatch.
