Hi, If you have noted from previous posts here it is a small mapping combo for enemy territory. This combo is over. Thx for all.

Rules :

  • Playable on W:ET
  • Max. 1024?? in gtkradiant
  • Filesize max 4mb (pk3 size)
  • The map must include source (.map) file
  • The map must follow naming issued in this forum
    example. The textures must be in textures/mapname
  • Map must have somekind of objective.
  • The map must support LMS gamemode
  • The map must have at least 8 spawns for each team
  • The map must be overall acceptable quality, no missing textures, models. No scripting errors.
  • The winner is decided as a vote on forum damages forum: Level Design for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.
  • The competition is held only if 3 (three) or more maps is contributed.
  • The contributed maps that are agreed into competetion are gathered together into one pk3 and distributed free of charge.
    -The source (.map) files are distributed in separate package.
  • The main combo coordinator (Seven_dc) check the maps so that they are valid for the competition. You can appeal here (damage forum) if you think you are miss threaded and Go-Gerbil will kick my ass :slight_smile:
    -The coordinator helds right to change any of these rules as he sees fit.

we have only 4MB rules because a magazine “PCAction” has released our Maps on a CD

Odd having a 4 mb limit given they were for a CD!
Were they expecting 200 entries or something? :slight_smile:

The thing that the map is small makes it challenging and pretty fast to create, so everyone gets to have change…And the 4 mb limit i think sould be on if you consider the fysical size of the map and that if all maps are put together it would not create a very huge download.

BTW I was thinking that only the best about 8 should get into the final .pk3, because it would grow huge if there is lot of contributions…

Well, putting them into a poll would be easy - can you set up polls here so that people can vote, say, 4 times?
IE they vote for their favourite 4 etc?
If you are making it the ‘best’ bunch, I’d also obviously still have some way of including the rest, possibly a ‘best’ pk3 and the ‘rest’ pk3, I think people should still be able to have their map distributed somehow if they make the effort to enter since it’s only fair.

Kinda nullifies the point of having rules :confused:
Detoeni will manage it once he realises what a tiny area the map takes up :wink:
FWIW if you have spare space left after building your map, you can always take up the spare space by increasing the lightmap resolution until you hit the limit - I really expect the file size to not be a problem unless you go custom texture crazy.

Yes I think that it is very hard to hit the 4 mb limit with just .bsp and script,shader stuff… the textures and lightmaps are those that eat the final pk3 size.

Woot now we have a competiton. 4 mappers allready.

I have a question does 1024 mean for all or just playable area?? Like could i build building out side that, just for pure look’s sake, or a sky box even ?
If i’m counted as a mapper then u have 5 btw :wink:

Welcome aboard hhhmmmmm… It is all the area. There should not be anything outside this parameter in radiant. I just created terrain into my map and realized this is very limited area. very challenging indeed… and fun!

Yeah, are we allowed a skybox outside our map? I have some really neato skybox ideas. :cool:
Maybe allow a 32x32 skybox, or something small like that. Otherwise you’ll have people performing voodoo with hint brushes to fit their skybox inside some dead space within their map.

Either way, count me in. This looks like fun.

[edit in resp. to Fidel: Good point. And if someone wants the 1024³, they’re welcome to voodoo all they want. :chef: ]

keeping the map in the 1024 rule and having a skybox is no problem.
take a look at most of the fragpoint 1024 maps. :bump:
