I think the idea that “if i get my custom map out quickly, it will get more server play” also played a bit of a role.
Screenshots of what you're working on right now
StormShadow, IMO you need to add some variation in your destroyed walls. They all seem so exact and not very realistic… Not as if they had really been shelled or bombed. Otherwise it looks good.
What do you mean? Is is the angular ‘squarish’ look of the broken portion of the walls that you dont like? The outer walls (you cant see in this image) are made of brick, and since bricks are rectangular, i wanted to give the impression of the bricks falling out of the wall, hence the sharp angular pattern. If you meant something else, lemme know, clearly im going for a ‘realism’ look here, so any suggestions would be great.
edit: also keep in mind that this map isnt even in alpha stages yet, so the detailing is far from being complete.
I think he means if a house got shelled then it wouldnt look as neat as yours does, it needs to be more “bombed” looking lol
like this
> look at lines of the walls like how they arnt as straight as you think they would be

Gee, sorry the building i created for a totally unrealistic video game doesnt look completely realistic…

These are actual pictures of stalingrad (which is what my map is roughly based on) - which more closely resemble the buildings in my map than your random ww2 picture.
Dude, don’t get so bent out of shape–you posted some shots that showed great promise, and some people took the time to offer you constructive criticism. Be thankful, not spiteful ;^)
You probably couldn’t go wrong “dirtying” up your rubble geometry; right now it does look just a tad too perfect. It’s as if the shells exploded “just so.”
Sorry, I didnt mean to come off as bitter or defensive, but its frustrating to put a lot of work into detailing something just to be told it doesnt look good because it doesnt meet someones subjective standard. Especially at such an early stage in the process - i really didnt expect to get tough criticism after only 2-3 weeks of work, but i guess i was asking for it by posting screenies.
Anyway, based on the image Fusen posted its pretty clear that he has a very different view of what he expects to see in a destroyed bulding. I was going more for the look shown in my images - where you can see the empty shell of the buildings, and the bricks look quite jagged. Maybe i didnt achieve that effect very well, and ill work on it - but like i said before, this map is in very early stages, and i didnt really expect it to be judged at this point.
Well, this is the map that has given me a million headaches and a million problems…
…this version is half the size of the original version for two reasons. 1) It was freakin’ huge! and 2) I’ve cut back the map size so I can enter it into the map making competition (the one with the 15-20 minute limit).
There is still a ton more work to be done, fixing bugs, balancing, lighting, etc. And also I have to add a ton more detail to the interior rooms because a lot of them are currently empty
Anyway, here are links to the pics - decided not to post inline pics because there are lots of them and they are big…

StormShadow: Sorry, but im gonna have to go with Fusen on this… Your rubble is bit too neat and tidy.
…and yes, if you post screenies, expect any and everyone to give you different comments on it whether you like those comments or not… Personally, before I even put a screen up nowadays I make sure that it is as good as it can be at any particular stage as to avoid random and pointless feedback.
The first thing I noticed when I saw your first screen was that it didnt “feel” right. …And being that that was the case I posted something as to help you… not to bash.
You’ll even notice in the images that you put up that the buildings are randomly blow to bits… If a wall is made out of bricks (as in your case), the bricks are not gonna magically fall out like legos… No no, they are gonna be blasted and sheared and broken in every which way.
hi all just finshed my brush work on a boat i’ve been playing with:)

Reworked the battleship a little and mad a tanker which is bigger than the battleship, and has a fully explorable hull, shame it looks so bland
Kinda got the idea from a Call of duty level
I might as well post what I’m working on.

The bank is a little dark atm, but I will try to brighten it up a bit later. (BTW, those torches are Marko’s)
Also, why is my truck doing this?

I placed it 90 degrees form where it is supposed to start, yet it still does this? I’ll post an editor image later, so you can see how I have it set up.
