In short, Brace is a Duos Deathmatch mod, where each team consist of 2 players, and all teams fight each others - everyone except your team mate is the enemy, and will try to kill you.
Main new features in the latest a4 version is support for Strogg side, and the Briefcase. Pluss a ton of bug fixes and adjustments
Brace is played on the 12 stock maps you know so well already, but due to the new gameplay the battlefield feels totally different - the normal objectives are not in use, and the gameflow can go in all directions.
New players should note the following differences from normal QW:
-
All classes can pickup and use all weapons and packs. This includes GDF/Strogg weapons - they will autoconvert to the right race model when picked up, so a GPMG will turn into a hyperblaster and so on. All classes can also revive teammates, with the Use button (F)
-
Each player can only carry 2 sidearms and 2 packs. You sometimes have to drop a pack or gun to pickup a better one, and I recommend to train a bit on how to use the pickup and pack system, as it can be a bit confusing in the start. The Use key (F) will pickup stuff - the Mount key (G) will pickup and consume.
-
All classes have at least one special ability, some of them have to use fuel cells/packs to charge them. See the Brace thread for more specific info.
-
Each round is exactly 23 minutes long, and will progress with several stages. It start with few weapons and long spawn times, but accelrate with more weapons/vehicles and shorter spawn times for each stage. The last 10 minutes is getting quite intense, while the 2 last minutes is totally crazy.
Final advices:
-
Learn to search for guns and try to memorize where you leave them if you die - the sooner you find a good gun, the longer you will live.
-
Try to stay close to your team mate, as you both will get an extra “brace” bonus when you’re close.
-
Try not to panic, and run out of the battlezone (usually around the Briefcase) if low on health, to recover and search for better guns and supplies.
-
As the Briefcase gives some extra XP, most teams will hunt for it. So whenever you are prepared for action, go for it - the briefcase is always visible on the map
That’s it for now, more details in the Brace thread.
Thanks to Tinman for creating this awesome mod, and hope to see many players on Brace server this weekend!
