Saturday Night Brace Party

(.Chris.) #21

I don’t see the point of the case fullstop.

I guess he was trying to make it so those who own the case get more points but gives them more risk as everyone knows there location so they would be under pressure more as a result which would work on smaller maps but on bigger maps with vehicles it just promotes running away and camping in hills.

Last night on island we chased these two people with case to first gdf spawn on island only to have them take platypus to other side of map, the biggest insult was that we was all strogg and there was no strogg vehicles at all.

(Ashog) #22

I don’t like Brace.

Does that mean that Nirvana is cancelled?

(phryzz) #23

Sorry about that platypus thing, but I understand correctly, we don’t get xp when we are in vehicles. Of course running away to gather xp in sunny islando beach sucks.

Maybe disc carrier should lose xp or health, when he is in vehicle? Or get slowed down somehow? Or get damage, if enemies are too far away?

Anyway… we had great time last night playing this mod.

Btw. does xp/min fade, if you have disc too long, fireteam is split up or enemies are too far away?

(.Chris.) #24

How do you get so much xp then?

The mod is really puzzling for a first timer but as far as I understood it was you get the case, grab some good weapons and camp on a hill then flee when you run out of supplies to other side of map, rinse and repeat and you win the round.

This didn’t make it very enjoyable at all the overall concept of the mod is cool but it’s not working for me on ET:QW’s massive maps, a much smaller OOB area would help I guess to make sure people don’t flee to the sides of the map

(Scrupus) #25

I agree the OOB camping can be a problem. As it works now you don’t get xp for the case when sitting in a vehicle, but it’s still quite easy to just drive away to a far away corner and camp there outside the vehicle.

It could work better if it was impossible to enter a vehicle if you carry the case. Another way to solve it could be to reduce the briefcase score the farther you are away from a fixed point, like the MCP. Going down to zero if you’re out of max range.

Anyway I had a good time yesterday, we played for 3 hours or so and I did not get bored, only exhausted. 4 x 2 teams works pretty well, but I guess that’s the minimum. For those who have only played with bots - it’s quite different when you play with humans - and stroggs - only :oppressor:

Ashog, you’re getting old and conservative - only playing pubs and official custom maps…

Thanks for all who showed up though, it was great fun! :stroggbanana:

(Ashog) #26

Maybe - but it got very boring last time i played it (already after 30 min).

(.Chris.) #27

No one said it was…

(Tanzverbot) #28

Ashog canceled Nirvana, what are we gonna do tonite?

I wonder that too. I chased case carrier around the canyon at least 5 min and our team got almost same xp as cc-fireteam. Probably it came from my ftmate’s kills.

(SphereCow) #30

That’s a shame, it has pretty amazing potential that’s completely different from any other mod I’ve played over the years.

Maybe instead all players should be able to use any vehicle, and/or enter a vehicle that an enemy is using?

You can get a ton of XP by simply killing players by finding items/weapons. Brace isn’t entirely about camping with the case, it just makes winning easier if you can hold onto it with everyone trying to grab it, while getting kills.

If you’re in a cluster of enemies scrambling for the disk why not try killing everyone else and getting all the frags, and using the disk as bait?

Players should get experience points gradually for staying alive, which gets a bonus in combination with kills. These bonuses should be increased for players holding the disk.

Something that I think is slightly more drastic is that you would level up like you do in base ETQW, but you lose all of your abilities when you die.

(Scrupus) #31

That wouldn’t work to well with the current vehicle drops - it’s too few vehicles, and they are quickly turned into scrapmetal.

And I don’t think it’s a good idea to add many more of them, they would be to powerful, and no chance for infantery.

Maybe if it was configurable, so they could be turned on and off (or adjust the amount).

Actually this happens quite often already - we had some fun battles on Saturday when the case was dropped inside the tower on Canyon and other places like that where it’s hard to get away. And it was really fun, especially since all the dead players drops tons of weapons, so it builds up to a huge pile of leftover weapons and supply around those areas

I personally think the current “escape with briefcase” vs “hunt and kill” mission works pretty well - people can choose what to go for already, hunt or be hunted. Except for the potential vehicle and OOB camping.

Interesting ideas, I would like a staying alive bonus, but that would also open up for hill camping and such.

I would rather like to see a head bounty system (if it’s easy to see who’s got the most bounty, and maybe reduce their radar protection radius), and more advanced match setup, like 3 maps in a row to decide the winning team from total score and such.

But then, I don’t really expect Tinman to work more on this mod, unless we start playing it more. So let’s try again next saturday shall we

(NearlyFreeSpeech) #32

Sounds cool! Hope you add more as time goes along…

Maybe no there is a chance of seeing an OSX binary!

(Ashog) #34

FU for not coming anymoar to Nirvana.

(or FUUUUUUUUUU!!!1 for smurfing in case you do).

(Dthy) #35

Manual download didn’t work :frowning: says i need to copy the dll to the fold it’s already in…

(Scrupus) #36

hmm, could be windows file permission issue? Try to reset the permissions for that folder (make it all writable), remove the old dll, and/or run the client as admin. Maybe that could help. Which windows version is this?

(Dthy) #37

Windows vista, it says can locate the dll file in the pk4 file, and that i need to move it from the pk4 file to the containing folder, but it’s already there

(Scrupus) #38

Yeah, that’s why I wonder if it’s a permission problem so the game can’t overwrite the old one. Try to delete this file and see if it can copy it after that:

C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\id Software\Enemy Territory - QUAKE Wars\brace\gamex86.dll

(scud24) #39

so brace again Saturday at 20:00 cet (on the east-coast of the US that’s 2pm)

(Dthy) #40

Tried deleting it then running. It copies a new file there, but still comes up to tell me that it’s in the pk4 file and needs to be copied out of it. Only time i’ve had trouble with brace. hmmm…

Not sure if it would do anything, but a re-install of etqw?
