Rockets, com and vehicles (warning : very nitty gritty post)

In the QuakeCon video, we saw rockets and here’s a couple things that I thought of :

  1. One or more of the vehicles should have a rocket launchers should fire multiple rockets either at the same time or in rapid succession. There is nothing like seeing a clump of rockets or off into the distance. :wink: Maybe this could also apply to the player deployed rocket turret too. Maybe the rockets would have to “recharge” after firing a volley?

  2. Maybe instead of full blown target tracking, the rockets on vehicles could lock onto where ever the crosshair was pointed at he time of firing. What I like about this scheme is that this will create a lot of curved trajectories which is a nice touch to the presentation of combat. This wouldn’t really have a huge impact on the gampleay, it would just make the combat more visually interesting. :slight_smile:

  3. The physics are really neat. Will this enable us to send bodies flying with large explosions? How about ragdolls (when you shoot a person out of a high point they slump down and fall.)

Seeing as how ET :QW is a sci fi game, are there any energy weapons?

Regarding the vehicles :
2) I would like to see several kinds of those mechs. Maybe a large one, a medium one, and a small one.

  1. I would like to be able to shoot our of the boat and walk around in it. Maybe there could be a large boat and a small one if the current one is too small to walk around? This isn’t the same as what I suggested with the giant vehicles.

  2. Some vehicles with multiple weapons. This wil really tie into the team play theme because each weapons will have it’s own strengths and weaknesses in each situation. This would make more sense with vehicles that are big.

  3. Interactive control panels for vehicles. I’m not really sure how this would work and what role it would paly, but it would be a really neat ouch too.

  4. The ability to run people over with the vehicles.

  5. A different vehicle for transporting team mates across air, land, and sea.

Since I’m too tired to make a thorough post, I’d just say that I only like idea number 3 and 5.
All the rest could clutter or unbalance the game, imho. However, I’d need to take a closer look if those ideas can be salvaged after all.

ad. 1,2:

Have you seen what Goliath can do with its cannons ? I don’ believe we need any more firepower. And as for multiple rockets, there’s rocket artillery deployable.

ad.3 explosions don’t typically send people flying, except in movies. They mostly tear people apart into several pieces.
There doesn’t seem to be any kind of ragdoll effect, and with a good reason. Both sides have medics who can revive, that’s why fallen soldiers always lie on their backs. To make animating easier. It’s boring, especially if you played W:ET for 3 years or so, but better than nothing.

I’m very happy that SD don’t seem to be Japan/katana/blah fanboys.

Already in. Strogg don’t have air transport. GDF APC is amphibious. Strogg Desacrator Tank can hover. Both sides have some sort of cars, too.

SD probably doesn’t appreciate you telling them how to do their job. If you want to see your own ideas in a game, learn to mod.

Well, the ragdoll effect would actually be nice to see. Either implemented only when your HP goes straight from > 0 to no-res condition OR always-on.
Seeing the backpacks merging with the ground isn’t very realistic, don’t you guys agree?
What’s the difference between letting a player lay on his back or on whatever position ragdoll decides he fell?

So, you fire once and a salvo of rockets are launched. i think it would a a alot to the battlefield atmosphere.

Battlefield, as in “the game” or in the place?

I don’t know how this would add to the gameplay, unless the damage is less or the attack can only be done once in about 30-40 seconds.

I would say that if focuses too much on graphical issues which will probably be turned off.
It would be nice to see a few of these things, but I wouldn’t call it worth it’s time to make sure they’re in.

Creating good looking batles is all about details. What trajectory do the rockets follow? Curved is best.

How many rockets are fired at a time?

Another thing that owuld be neat is multiple point targeting. You could launch the whole salvo or ctrl-click to fire the rockets in multiple point mode.

before you just add a load of rockets i think your realy going to make sure they fit into the gameplay and going from a mounted machine gun to a massive rocket volley sounds like a big step

making a intense battelfiled doesnt mean that you have to have lots of things like rockets. if the front line system comes together then areas of real intensity should apear

Difference being that the meds need to pick up the guys from the front via the shock paddles. The ragdoll physics could take effect if the blast/shot/etc was strong enough to gib too. But I’m happy to keep it the way it is. I don’t care about reality I care about gameplay.

You wanna see ragdoll physics? Buy yourself a rocket launcher.
