Just a few of thoughts:
- Isn’t a big issue with competitive game modes that the actual requirements are fairly dynamic until the community come to a consensus? Perhaps a framework for competitive mini-mods would be a better investment rather than adding rules and features which may be pointless.
Agreed. It’s the same thing I said about the Wolfenstein ironsights thing: the ironsights are exactly 1 promod away from being a serverside toggle. Instead of moaning about those, get the devs to develop the engine issues and leave the fine gameplay balancing until you have a functioning community to iterate the stuff down.
From what’s been said, it does sound like SD is opening up as many options as they possibly can, so many of the options that came in ETQWpro (for example) might be there from the offset.
That doesn’t mean that a promod or pubmod or whatever isn’t required, but it should make them much easier to make, and therefore much earlier to arrive.
Also agreed on the first point; some of the posts here are so embarrassingly packed with childish dogma that they might as well apply for a shot on Britain’s got educationally subnormal people (<3 Brigstocke).
I dunno about the second; I’m not sure how possible it is to make such a system work without voting becoming weaponised. It’s one thing for a group of players to stack a server and initiate votekicks against someone they don’t like, but imagine if those votekicks were some more persistent influence?
It makes groups of people more influential than individuals, and I can see all sorts of terrible clique-iness coming from it.
Again, I think this all comes down to the engine issues. I’m hoping we get more info on the changes SD have made to idtech4.
I think it might offer more of a psychological impact than a physical one: scrubs would no longer be able to scream and scream that tweaking “wasn’t intended”, and might actually try adapting their game to run better themselves.
That said, immediate feedback would be pretty awesome for tweaking. Given that virtual texturing offers dynamic texture loading, I’m wondering how many other aspects of the graphics engine are dynamic beasties.
Certainly at least, I don’t think I can stomache another AIRCRAFT SHOULD BE CONTROLLABLE BY A FLIGHTSTICK WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY ALREADY ARE I SEE NO MENUS nonsense thread.
