Request: 360 controller on PC

(Hyrage) #41

I don’t get it. Is it that hard to believe that some gamers are actually more comfortable with a controller than a mouse or that some others came from PC and actually prefered the feel of the controller for the overall experience (especially the progressive character movement) and now are skillful with such accessory?

It doesn’t sound inhuman to me.

Dammit Linsolv, I owe you a Coke or something.

I think it’s hard to understand, rather than hard to believe  Controllers are simply not capable of providing the same accuracy and speed as the mouse and keyboard, even with acceleration applied to the stick inputs. I can totally understand that you feel more comfortable with a controller in your hand, but unless you’re genuinely a lot better than most mouse/keyboard players, you’re going to be at a constant disadvantage.

I can certainly see why controllers for PC would help disabled players as someone mentioned earlier on, but again - if they’re playing against mouse/keyboard-equipped opponents, they’ll need to be better than those opponents to avoid constantly being slaughtered due to their controller choice. Being beaten due to being out-skilled is one thing, being beaten because you’re wading through quicksand out in the open rather than darting through the shadows of the arena, is a whole different kettle of fish

Most console FPS games reflect this disparity - damage to the player is lower, survivability is higher, and it needs to be - because the controls are slow and ponderous, or twitchy and inaccurate - there’s little chance of hitting middle-ground, even with “clever” acceleration. Hardware aside, controlling a small stick with your thumb also can’t compare to using your entire arm, half of it, or even just your wrist with a mouse - whatever your style, approach and sensitivity choice with mouse control, it’ll beat analogue sticks every time in an FPS. Mostly you’ll be passing someone close-quarters and shooting them in the back, as they slowly try to turn around to face you - or spin wildly due to high-sensitivity optimistic settings causing their fire to go in every direction but towards you

I don’t think it’s a very smart idea, you’ll be an annoyance to the rest of the team and a main reason for loosing every match and spoiling everyone else fun on the PC. I’m not sure where in your life you thought that controller is a good as a mouse + Keyboard. but you’ll need alot of pratice with your controller to play against these type of peoples:

I’m just saving you alot of frustration.

I also want 360 controller support. Can someone let me know how well the unofficial support works when it comes out? And please don’t wrote me a novel about how much better mouse and keyboard is. I’m only playing solo or with friends so don’t worry about my “disadvantage.”

360 controllers will work fine

(bluedevil04js) #47

How do you know?

(DarkangelUK) #48

Because at QuakeCon, Eurogamer and other events they were running the game on PC’s but with a 360 controller.

Everyone knows that KB and mouse is better for FPS. However, if you are just playing the single player or playing from a HTPC (as I do) then the controller isn’t a problem and, for many, it’s more comfortable. Controllers were implemented on PC way before the current and previous generation of consoles. Soo please shut up.

Anyways, will you also be able to control the menu with the controller? As I mentioned my HTPC is my primary gaming machine and having to pick up the keyboard to navigate the menus is just a pain.

thanks

most likely.

(DarkangelUK) #51

The NES had controllers in 1983

(kreed_uk) #52

I did say way before this and last generation, didn’t I??? I didn’t say first or second generation.

PC’s had controllers before the Atari Jaguar.

(DarkangelUK) #53

The point is… your point is pointless

(kreed_uk) #54

It’s for people who say “if you want to use a controller why don’t you get a console?”.

But thanks for your input…

(DarkangelUK) #55

Ah right, there’s another thread having a similar discussion, but that’s the age old controller+couch vs m/kb debate… I was confuzzled.

Hi all. According to this interview with Paul Wedgewood, Brink is playable on PC with a 360 controller.

“Sometimes, we would play with a 360 controller connected to PC. Other times we would play with mouse and keyboard, just depending on what we felt like. But we had this very definite vision from the beginning that we would be platform agnostic.”

That is an article from today.

However in this thread here, http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24240, the Splash Damage employee says that controllers are not “officially supported”

Will I be able use my 360 controller on Brink, just plug and play? Or will I have to mess with console commands and how would I go about doing that anyways?

It’s pretty disingenuous to say in the interview that you can use the 360 controller, than on the forums say that it isn’t “officially supported”.

Just imagine being a kid playing a stupid COD game with that handicapped controller, thinking you’re awesome when at the same age your father was rocket jumping and landing hit after hit with rail guns and blowing people up with rockets in mid air. With no aim assist.

My kids will not even know what a console is.

Can someone from SD actually answer us? I was convinced the game would support a 360 pad as you guys have been demoing it with a 360 pad for YEARS. Please help me out and point me in the direction of a solution. I probably won’t play the game at all on keyboard and mouse - it’s too complicated for me (go ahead and laugh you KB/M guys).

I’m really regretting the purchase at this point. Please update us if possible!

So Thanks SD, for a year you demo the game on the pc with the 360 controller and the creator says that he switches back and forth with the keyboard+mouse and 360 controller on the PC, then when the game is about to release it is all of a sudden that your company says you don’t officially support any controllers on the PC…Then don’t present the game in a manner that implies that, don’t say that the option is available. It was a lie. I have looked forward to this game for awhile and I have been a FPS person for years and I have dominated people with a 360 controller on the PC, I use the disadvantages to make me a better gamer, I don’t complain about that crap. I just want to know if you guys, Splash Damage, plan on making the PC version of Brink support the controller. If not, then state that from the beginning, don’t lie, wither it was a directly spoken lie, or an implied lie. :frowning:

Do what I have done, use Xpadder, if you don’t know how to use it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NayxRfY4V0

If you need to learn more advance ways, just practice with it a little bit.

I have a setup that kinda works, it just takes a little getting use to, but honestly Splash Damage needs to come out with support for the controller. I love the game, but WTF…
