Request: 360 controller on PC

(Hyrage) #1

I’m buying a PC for Brink and I would really love to play the game with my controller with the same setting as the 360, but with the same settings as the mouse (well, no stupid auto-aim).

Is that already implemented?

(-Badger-) #2

I could see why you might want to. but I think it might be a ton easier to just use a kb/m for text etc. I really wish the audio port and chatpad workd on PC like they do on Console, but M$ did as little as possible for compatibility. There isnt even a seperate UI from the Default gamepad control panel. the Live button doesnt even work with GFWL. its been out for as long as the 360 and yet M$ fails to support it, they could easily double sales of the device if they supported it.

But as for Brink, most Xplatform games tend to have controller support wether it be for the 360 controller or logitech gamepad. so I would assume so.

WOuldn’t it be the least to make the 360 controller compatible since the settings would already be in the game from the 360 version?

(ktr) #4

It’s already implemented.

Games for Windows (GfW) certification, which Brink has, requires that the game works with the X360 controller.

(Hyrage) #6

Thx, I wasn’t aware of that. That good news really.

(Smooth) #7

We don’t officially support any controllers on PC, so we aren’t required to support the X360 controller either.

(jegis) #8

To be a games for windows game there are certain standards. 360 controller support is one of them.
Laser mouse makes things easier nowadays, but back in 2003 was playing with an optical mouse and had better speed, control and precision than what you’ll find here:
Ultimate Quake Frag Video - AnnihilatioN

So I have a pretty good idea of how a player can be good with a mouse and if I say I’ve reached peaks in which I was that good with a mouse; that’s just how it is.

No, I’m saying that you guys should stop comparing both and start considering that they have different strengths and minimum requirements.

The thing is, if you want to reach your full potential, it’s going to take a few weeks with a mouse when it would take years with a game controller. But you need to realize that once you reached that peak with the mouse, when you become the only one on Earth on that skill level and that you can’t go further… how boring can that be? 3 months, BAM! you are there.

I much prefer the learning curve of the game controller that takes more time to master.
But hey, we all have different priorities in life and it’s just fine.
Hahaha, good troll. 10/10 easily.

How is Hyrage’s post trolling?

In case everyone missed his late post

That’s sad if they do not support any controller on PC, since the code is probably already there for the 360 controller. Some people, handicapped, actually requested on the BF:BC2 forums the possibility to play with a game controller instead. The PC has the opportunity to bring the best of both worlds.

Request: Keyboard + Mouse support for Xbox 360.

I think someone should get a k&m, hook it up to their 360, and hook their 360 up to their monitor. Then, proceed to play. It would be like playing on a computer vs console players.

Someone else hook a controller up to PC.

(BioSnark) #15

because of input disparity, no m+kb support on ps3 version. the m+bk vs stix debate has been settled, previously. It can be re-discussed via games which do support both inputs like UT3 on PS3

If I’m correct, the reason why there isn’t such things as mouse + keyboard yet on 360 is because Microsoft wants it that way.

(Mr. Magikarp) #17

It’s because they either don’t care because their consumer base is happy using controllers, they don’t want to lose revenue generated by controller sales, or they’re afraid it will cause gameplay issues (such as being too much of an advantage in certain games over a controller)

(Linsolv) #18

It’s the controller revenue bit. If there’s one thing that I’ve found with MS, it’s that they are really pretty consistent about wanting to have their own proprietary crap that you can’t just buy from a 3rd party without Microsoft’s direct, written consent.

(SockDog) #19

Thanks for the clarification. So if you support a Windows controller the GfW certification requires you also support X360 controllers?

If I read a little deeper can I also assume that mapping via the console (as in ETQW) is classed as “don’t officially support”?

Pretty much spot on.
