For me personally lack of maps is the biggest reason it gets old. W:ET didn’t have more maps, but they were more distinctive. SD are determined to add more Counterstrike maps, I can’t see it being a huge deal. More like a desperate attempt to draw CS players. Mercs themselves are not very distinctive too.

Also, W:ET had less crappy weapons nobody used. Thomp40, Sten, Garand, FG42, Mortar, Panzerfaust, deployable Mg42, they were all in use. Flamethrower a bit less, but it was fun. Okay, knives were pretty bad.

As it’s F2P I guess it get’s a shorter amount of time from new players, they havent invested any money in the game so dont have to spend any time learning it. For me that’s probably the main issue for player numbers not increasing - they join, dont ‘get it’ and leave…

That said, this wont be helped by the maps, which are quite frankly rubbish and the ridiculous monetisation model (£7 for a merc?, random cards etc). Add to that the infuriatingly long time between matches and you have a recipe for frustration/boredom.

For full release there a couple of things I’d love to see;

  • Steam workshop for maps, the highest voted community maps being brought into the main game every quarter.
  • Rentable public servers so basic things like FF, Map Choice, Mode, Time Length and Spawn Times could be set by the admin.
  • Faster transition time between maps/matches.

I agree on the map thing, but totally disagree on the weapon use. Mortar or FG42 would be less common than any merc or weapon in DB.

It also stinks that a new player might not have any idea where to go and what to do. This could be rectified by including an offline mode where you can roam the maps freely alone, and, here’s the important part, have the objectives activated.

Hey, it happened to me.

(Destroy666) #45

In competitive games obviously, but in pubs all weapons could be seen every now and then (mortar on big servers with many players, FG42 just for fun), especially that ET had freedom of modding. Some mods even introduced their own weapons. But I don’t see the point of comparing DB to ET, it most likely will never be similar, except that it’s fast-paced and spammy.

(Szakalot) #46

ET is just as spammy on bigger servers, its just that maps are bigger so you need more players to get the spammy feeling. Anything above 12v12 would be super spammy on vanilla ET maps, and lets not forget those 64+player servers that were constantly full.

As far as pub DB; i see all weapons and mercs, and no single merc appears to be overused/underused by a huge amount (suppose bushwhacker&nader are very common, and redeye uncommon, but thats it)

Would of been nice had they learned from what they did wrong with ETQW and Brink, unfortunately I don’t think SD will ever learn from previous mistakes, having Nexon do all the media/advertising was also a disaster unfortunately

Also who in gods name is going to put money into the game after you came out and said that the game is not going to get any new maps for the foreseeable future and that you would be focusing on a new game mode, which has no place being in the game.

Thanks SD m8s

Maybe am biased towards ETQW, yeah it wasnt perfect… but they got many things right on that game.
and IMO, if ranked servers never existed, community maps didnt require the pro-mod, and SD had more time to work on the performance issues the game would still have a large following, to this day…

Now , Brink. that was a cash grab for console… that POS deserved its quick death… sadly, DB follows Brink way more then ETQW… and his heading towards the same demise…

(Kl3ppy) #49

Fix the ****ing balance or kill the game before the players kill it. It is absolutly no fun to play on current objective servers. I hope enough players stay with the game but the user count is dropping fast!

Maps …

Promod is what kept ETQW going for as long as it did IMO same with custom maps, kept the comp scene alive for a long time

(Violator) #52

Its good to see SD experimenting with different lobbies to try and fix the balance issue but the current version really doesn’t work. Balance + maps are the current main issues with retention, plus its looking increasingly unlikely we’ll see an SDK any time soon after the last dev stream :(.

(alphabeta) #53

Maps maps maps … please

(Tanzverbot) #54

You’d expect the fact that promod got used instead of their own comp mode would’ve been some food for thought for SD.

(light_sh4v0r) #55

I think that was the idea though. Before comp mode was there promod was already available, they deliberately added features with comp mode that pro-mod didn’t have yet, so they could be combined.

asking them to change their clear pattern of development at this point is a waste of time i suspect

i honestly sat there expecting a lot more from db than was clearly possible, just another ruined game. honestly if they cant learn from the mistakes they made in ET/ETQW/Brink and now with Dirty Bomb… why bother next time

Well when the game is out of beta it should improve quite a bit  Just takes some time though

(Kl3ppy) #58

tbh, the main issues are here since 2 years and so far they didnt bother to adress the root of the issue. Instead they made cosmectic changes hoping the issues dont appear so big anymore. The game is in open beta but I doubt that there will be big changes when shifting to open.

(Bangtastic) #59

I know the feels, but hey there are some neat features still to come. The game is nevertheless in a not so bad shape though. Compared to other F2P games it is still pretty good. Don’t have any expectations at all is prolly the best advice I can give, though I would love to see sth new, some variation… O well thats the life of an alpha player

(senilityiscool2) #60

There is a bigger issue looming on the horizon. There are several people who are hacking who have the intent to destroy the game. One player last night stated that he hopes he can be personally responsible for killing the cash grabbing POS. He is on his fourth account. I guess the killer for this game was using an old engine and anti-cheat system that invites more problems than new players.

Not that any of this will stop me from playing, it’s just going to kill a lot of revenue for everyone, and that will kill the game.
