there is one thing that they definitely shouldn’t do: and that is panic reaction to player stats. Things are constantly in development, and, with the exception of the melee change 2 patches ago, things are generally getting better.
Presumably, at full release, without any game-breaking bugs, with proper game balance, good matchmaking; new players that come will stay, and some of the ones that stopped playing now - return.
Hopefully at that stage focus can shift to new content, to keep the game interesting in the long run.
release more maps for the objective/sw mode playing the same few maps for a couple of years gets very boring
No need for panic, stuff like this is normal with almost every game. After new content, surely the stuff will go up again. Think about a new merc or new Objective maps etc.
@OP: count me in too - I totally absolutely with all of my willpower quit playing DB for the length of my summer vacation, probably just as everybody else who is supposed to have a tiny bit of rl ^^
So much rip!
Everyone I know is jetting off around the world for holidays this month, I expect player numbers will pickup by September.
Holiday… Just look at other games they will show the same decline in player numbers. Ohh wait they don’t.
Add hats and a trading system.
Why don’t more games do this?
Literally copy what TF2 and every Moba did.
Make costumes/weapon skins/hats for each class, make them highly rare and then make an even rarer version of each, make them look fashionable or cool (this is the part where you listen to what the community would like, throw all their suggestions in the trash, and go steal from concept artists.) and then throw in a trading system and Bob’s your uncle.
It’s a proven formula, even a dead as hell game like TF2 has been kept from needing life support because of a trading community.
Players love it, you get money for it, the game stays alive long after it should have died. Everyone wins, there are no losers, and it’s easy enough to do compared to releasing new and balanced content consistently.
The second you cheapen them up or change the formula by making them limited useage/timed cosmetics or too easy to get they will become immediately valueless and the system will lose all effect, however. So in a sense it is a delicate balance of not doing anything stupid to screw the money goose.
Add hats, add some kind of tradeable currency that you can make into hats, add cases for weapon hats, full body hats, and head hats, add super rare limited edition foil hats, add hat-packs, add hat merchandise.

CS:Go also has player number fall since late june.
like from 600k in peak to 500k in peak
so, this is summertime prbbly, yeah
If you look at the steam charts stats, Dirty Bomb, CSGO and Dota 2 have all declined (Dota 2’s player base spike don July 27th when the World Cyber Arena 2015 American Open Qualifiers started).
I think it’s more to do with the time of year, but the above mentioned issues are definitely areas for concern (and improvement).
Priority is placed behind bug fixing - fair enough. I would rather get stuck to an MG every now and then than play blatant lvl 20-30 cheaters with massive fps drops in MM every second or third match.
Hats - yes
masks - yes
community content - yes
Would be ridiculous in DB …Not that type of game…find something else
It doesn’t have to be ridiculous. We’re talking about the same guys who gave us a huge amount of model customization in Brink, with very few items looking out of whack. Helmets, berets, beanies, bandannas, balaclavas, even different hairdos, all these could be done in a manner that fits the game style.
Would Have to very carefully selected and limited otherwise it will turn into Barbies Closet
Scoop Here the new inc Merc in progress
Guess we’ll have to remove the mask from Skyhammer’s obsidian (best “skin” in the game, imo) and take away Bushwacker’s Jungle hat.
Hats and Masks can fit this game without being ridiculous and cartoony :]
Default Skins are well picked but dont want to see dozen of stuff for the same Merc …it will turned into Barbie SIM
I already suggested a while ago to SD the hats as a primary source for future monetization:
Anti was quite positive about it, so they are probably already close in the production pipeline!
Screw puny margins from mercs and cards, whorecash in via hatz!
