Red Eye First impressions thread.

I was kind of expecting him to get the BR-16 as his final weapon over the pdp, would have made sense imo as I don’t really see him so much as a traditional sniper, but a designated marksman.

(VincentRJaeger) #62

I believe that’s what they had the Grandeur and Dreiss for. They probably wanted to give a third alternative playstyle that’s more of the traditional role as a sniper just as variation. Though the BR-16 on him would be an interesting loadout~.

I agree completely, the sights are a bit strange. I’d love it if they replaced it with a red dot sight (and not the crap on the blishlock).

Indeed, learning when to smoke is going to take a bit for me. I’m thinking that it’s best to smoke your own feet so you can hide in it rather than smoking the enemies, because they’ll just leave the smoke.

How do u like infra red? I’m feeling it has too many trade offs. U cant know if person is teammate, it takes second or so. Everyone is just grey. Cant see mines, vasili’s sensors, grenades, airstrikegrenades. It is nice but would be awesome if it highlights mines, grenades etc etc.

Depends on the situation. A lot of times you’ll find enemies camping together in a room or corner or in some other popular spot to lay siege in. Moments like that, throw a smoke right in the middle of them and go towards the exit. One of two things will happen.

A.) They’ll scatter to get out because there sights blocked, they can’t do anything and for all they know they’re about to get dinked through the smoke by you

Answer: You meet them at the exit and pick them off or you can leave htem alone having simply cleared out the nest. Both work.

B.) They decide to stick in there, perhaps hiding in a corner, waiting out the smoke.

Answer: you run in there, pre-aimed at head level, THEN switch inferred on and blast some people as fast as you can, hopefully before they have time to react, leaving there corpses in a corner.

Just another example of the many uses of the smoke :3. It’s a much more aggressive use of it, but it works out really well.

I personally disagree on the dot. I hate dot sights, they actually make it harder for me to aim. I like the sights it currently has (But then again I’ve always opted for iron sights in any game that allowed me to remove scopes. I just feel natural with them) because they’ll be accurate once they tweak them, there open and shooting targets at range is actually really easy.

Honestly, if they tweak what they need to I think you’ll find there some of the best iron sights in the game. They focus you down range well while still being open enough you can see out the sides.

I’d be fine if allies just had a blue outline, right now the only defining difference is the nameplate.

Well for starters… I highly dislike the Grandeur SR. With the recoil/dmg/spread on the G SR, compared to the Dreiss in accuracy + damage… The Dreiss just trumps it at this point. I’ve played 4 back to back games with RedEye using the Dreiss vs. the Grandeur, and honestly I’m starting to regret purchasing RedEye just a bit since Kira/Arty can offer a bit more with the Dreiss AR, though I will admit I know there will eventually be some balancing/buff/nerfing (hopefully buffing…) for the Grandeur and I do know it is practically a non-scoped PDP… Though, as it stands, I dislike the Grandeur.

Also this is the opening you get when you prefer the Dreiss AR…

And this is the trade up you get when you prefer the Dreiss AR…

This merc is fun and balanced from the get go. Just wish he had an Automatic Assault gun. Some people (myself at first) need to know when not to throw the smoke as well. Team gets lost in it

(VincentRJaeger) #71

After having played him with the Dreiss, I can’t see myself switching back to the Grandeur. That thing is a beast in his hands and I feel it does the job better than the SR at the current state.

Also, maybe it’s just me but I’d want the smoke to stick around a little bit longer than it does now. I get the impression it’s there for only around 5 seconds (or maybe I just played with people who know how to counter the smoke), aswell as some iffiness with the Spotting Device not spotting half-covered people, but actually spots people through walls at close range.

(Shroed) #72

if he had an automatic gun he would be op as fck, just spraying everyone down through smoke

i think the marksman rifles are probably the only balanced option for him(maybe shotgun could work out?)

(Backuplight) #73

The IR does seem to bug sometimes, not just when you first join a server, but mid-game I’ve respawned and had it stop working. Bit weird, not the end of the world though.

Dropping smoke in front of a window/entrance and then flanking has been fun - people seem to get so focused on the smoke that they forget there are other ways in.

(SaulWolfden) #74

Yeah, I hope they fix the bug with his IR goggles not working the the next update they release. I’ve seen it happen midgame to me as well.

(Ottah) #75

I had times where it stopped working and i had to wait out the full CD duration of the goggles before they can be activated again midgame, havent had the ‘fail sometimes when joining a new server’

The new gun feels really hard to use, and the hipfire is horrible

(Backuplight) #77
The new gun feels really hard to use, and the hipfire is horrible
I’ve nailed some people with it and it felt beautiful, but I don’t think it’s for me. I also miss how the dreiss used to feel, I never expected to notice the RoF change so heavily.

(deerMirror) #78

The same thing was happening with phantom’s cloak when he came out, sometimes it wouldn’t actually activate when tried to use it and instead immediately canceled itself. Then there was also when Spark’s REVIVR wouldn’t actually rev people when hit them directly with the beam somtimes.

It’ll be ironed out eventually, just got to wait.

(deerMirror) #79

It is hard to use, but for whatever reason I find it way easier to use over the Dreiss. The problem most people have with it is that the G SR doesn’t really have a pattern, after three or four consecutive shots the accuracy goes out the window and the gun kinda jerks this way and that. But that’s sort of fine considering the firepower if you can make your shots count!

Also yes the hipfire is awful, you can make one reliable shot by firing from the hip i’ve but that’s about it from my experience.

(Vulcan) #80

I’ve played a few matches with him, and honestly enjoyed myself. Maybe it was just the excitement of playing a new Merc but i honestly enjoyed playing him.
The G-SR felt good, it Felt like it hit hard, im somewhat sad with the Hip-fire, but it make sense for it to go as inaccurate as it goes considering it’s pretty much a Marksman Rifle, a Sniper Rifle without a scope. It looks exactly like the M14 from Cod 4, i thought that was pretty cool.
His Smoke Nade Ability is pretty cool, except whenever i use the IR Goggles i find it hard to tell if im standing in the Smoke, or if it’s even still there. Maybe that will come with practice but overall i enjoyed it. The Marking you get with Redeye is great too, i would smoke off a corridor the enemy team has to come through and spot them all for my team, so they could fire through the smoke without physically seeing them.
It seems the Best counter to Redeye is in fact, Another Redeye my friends. Or at least when he’s using his smoke ability.

I do recommend him, and i hope to god they dont Nerf him in any way because he feels great.
