Red "DO NOT SHOOT" sign on disguised teammates doe

(klumpeh) #1

… work particularly well imo. It doesn’t seem to prevent teammates from killing u as covert ops :frowning:
I don’t have any suggestions as to a way around this, but still, if anyone else has, pls post them here so SD can see them.
Thanks

I think that to help prevent killing covert ops on your own team when they are in disguise is to make the cross a little more viewable by changing the colour to yellow or red and making it bigger or having a sound say something like “covert op in sight” something like that.

(daalig) #3

Um…the solution would be that coverts who have changed would still appear normal to his teamates.

(Mr.Green) #4

I’m with Daalig on this one.

(vizor) #5

while playing a friend told me that if u have an enemy uniform, and kill an enemy the unifrom would show again as that of your side, not the opponents…is that true? , i did not take notice

(klumpeh) #6

If you kill an enemy with silent weapons it wont and if they dont shoot back - silent takedown with a knife, silenced pistol or sten will do the trick and you will stay looking like the enemy.

Problem with Daalig’s suggestion is that you will need to know if a teammate is dressed in enemy’s clothes so that you can follow them for stealth or know to avoid them (to not give away their cover to the enemy.)

(saebbysorglos) #7

ola,
the Covert Ops should have a colored symbol over his head all the time.
this should be shown after he has changed his uniform.

(Maniac) #8

I think teammates should just watch there fire.

Its nice to be disguised but it also takes a risk.
Dont think this ned to be changed.

My complaint about the do-not-shoot icon is that it takes a moment to pop up (just like names and health bars) If you have fast reflexes, you will already be shooting when it does. OTOH, running around behind enemy lines in an enemy uniform should be risky.

I think the covert ops class is just right and should be left alone. gonig undercover is risky but when it works you get a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

When i get a enemy uniform i have a bind informing the team im undercover which i also use when my own team start shooting me has saved me from tk quite a few times.

afterall wolf is a team game and for a good team good communication is essential.

Yes exactly. The best thing to do is to make covert ops more clearer who they are. Maybe they could be coloured differently with a glow effect for team mates to see and know they are covert ops. Something needs to be done to make it more noticable as newbies tend to keep on shooting although you tell them you are covert ops! :drink:

(Hewster) #12

Agreed… just need to make the icon appear a little quicker
Although that may be easier said than done !

When a teammate shoots a covert ops which is under cover.

The cover ops should automaticall say: ‘hold your fire, I am under cover’.

Or even better:

A teammate is not allowed to shoot at a cover ops  lol.

I like the idea of an icon placed above the head of a Co-Op aswell as a voice saying “Covert Ops in operation in this area” - cool idea.

The current solution is IMO very provocative towards the players, and it is an invitation for bitter arguments among players. Because the warning you get now is most often too late, it is only a matter of time untill the hardcore CovOps will complain blindly, just to protect themselves. That in turn will cause everybody to be very hesitating to shoot at the enemy. This is more bullying the players instead of providing good gameplay, which should be every gamedevelopers’ goal.

The best option is to have the STOP sign above their heads all the time, it may look weird, but it’s the playability that counts (atleast that should count).

(sorry if I sound a bit harsh, I really think you guys do a great job  )

(Pippi) #16

Just thought of a good (?) compromise: enlarge the crosshair area in which the stop sign pops up. So instead of having to aim at the enemy to see whether he is a CovOp, you just have to point in the general direction. I’d suggest some 5 centimetres/2 inches from the centre of the crosshair on a 17" monitor running 1024x786. How about that? Maybe give the serveradmins the ability to enlarge that area too.

Iv played the covert operative for quite some time now and more ppl are starting to realise that there team can have spys and are a bit more cautious. However, your still gonna get team killed a lot more than the other classes but this is the risk you take when playing a covert ops.

When im in disguise and i get tk i never file or moan because i have realised that this is bound to happen. The trick is to keep your team informed of your movements - make simple binds saying your undercover.

Also when your in diguise leave your teamates as quick as possible because while your there your distracting your team from attacking real enemy targets and in firefights you have a good chance of tk as your team are fighting for there life and gonna shoot any enemy - your main priority is to distract the enemy well within there territory making it easier for your team to advance/defend.

Also dont hang about with a disguise in a place were either side might expect a real enemy to lay in wait like the sewers as ppl expect an axis defender there and will shoot first then ask questions later.

As for a hving a symbol floating in the air above a coverts head i think this will take away from the look of the game - imagine 3 or 4 covert ops running about with things floating on the heads. + i think this would take away some of the excitement and communication within a team.

I think the dont shoot sign sometimes is delayed late and also a teammates name dosnt show up straight away is 2 make the game feel more intense and put players on edge with the “his or isnt he” thinking.

Overall if you cant cope with the tk’s simply dont play covert ops, afterall there are also a lot of other exciting classes to play.

Stick a fork in me im done

Actually, I think that it is rather exciting risking death from your own teammates when playing covert ops – kinda ratchets the enjoyment of the game, knowing that donning an enemy uniform and betraying the enemies’ trusts could earn you a death from both friend or foe! Seems to go with the concept of the class.

The more I play Cops, the more I think it’s fine as it is with one exception. I think if a teammate kills covertops, then the COps should not be allowed to file a complaint. Too many newbs and spoilers will simply complain left right and centre. Although I do agree the don’t shoot icon really needs to appear instantly. No-one waits to check if an enemy is really an enemy before opening fire, it’s too risky.

I think the whole no name showing up to represent a spy works prefectly. In the heat of the moment, nobody notices, but when it’s a quiet time, you get caught out easily. A perfect example being today I played a game as COps, was deep undercover as all hell was breaking loose, and a enemy medic started partnering me with medpacks. It broke my heart to have to kill him

Very nice post. :drink: I have tked my COs but it was that quick reaction you sometimes have. :banghead: These TKs are when the CO is on his last breath and he takes a quick head shot. :skull: I’m sure it will happen from time to time but think right now COs is just about right. It makes you think, along with being a good shot to be real good in this game. The only big problem I see with the game right now is player animation/netcode and some of the sounds. I think the gameplay is a cut above.
