Exactly.
Rant and question...
When I spawncamp I look at it as a positive for the opposing players…
Instead of you having to run all the way over to my base, dodging around and whatnot, I go ahead and kill you up front and save both of us some time
The only spawn camping that annoys me is with the flamethrower…

Spawnkilling as in, the entire team is outside the opposite team’s spawn because there aren’t any enemies elsewhere, is due to uneven teams and needs a shuffle. This is often problematic because some idiots think this spawnkilling makes them l33t and so vote “no” to the shuffle, and because of the, uh, “sub-optimal” decision someone made that people who don’t vote count as “no” votes (huh?).
Spawnkilling as in, for example an individual player goes panzer, hides in the back of the enemy spawn, waits for spawn + 3 seconds and then panzers half the enemy team, is completely different. Anyone who does that regularly is an asshole and deserves to be kicked.
I like servers which have “no spawnkilling” rules. On the other hand, some take it too far - I’ve been kicked from servers before for taking the “via axis spawn” route as allied on Gold Rush; the rule thus destroying the original intention of the map designer and making the allied team’s job much harder for no particularly good reason.
sometimes ppl complain about spawnkilling when its TOTALLY unnecasary.
Like on battery, some ppl complaint about me mortaring near the spawn.
And then the admin told me to stop, i told him 2 piss off cuz they have 3 spawns !! He thought about it, and decided im right…
Same for other maps, there are usually other routes to take… maybe there longer but usually safer.
And if ppl spawncamp u, why not do the same…
Last night the allied team { on goldrush } got me pissed, i told them to stop calling arti in the axis spawn { bank spawn }. They decided to mock me and laugh about the ppl bitching and moaning…
Thats when i realised… its to camp or the be camped
{Its payback time…}
I went engie and i mined there friggin spawn, funny thing is now the other side was bitching and moaning…
:drink:
If there isnt a mod on, and ppl wont listen… just give them a taste of there own medicine :chef:
I think I need clarification. How far should spawn campers back off? For example… when the allies are getting spawn camped at the old city, should the axis say “o dear poor allies are getting no where” and back up to their spawn and wait for the allies to come out the corridors?
Or on the trainyard should the allies back up (to where?) and let the axis get past the stone wall?
Could any of the “non-spawn-campers” explain?
I just don’t see how you can back off from the axis spawn on the trainyard. Your job is to prevent the axis from boarding the train. That train starts in their spawn. The old city spawn point IS the spawn is that considered spawn camping? should the allies back off because the axis aren’t getting a chance?
Sorry, I feel that this game has revolutionized FPS. We are nolonger playing quake where you have all of the spawn points memorized so you can just run to each and rpg a spawing opponet. As others have pointed out, you have invulnerabliity…USE IT
If I play public on fuel dump as allies and we are getting killed at spawn, I just use the dash key and run out. if I get 2 before I die, I’m on plus. I respawn and do the same. Not really a big problem.
But if my team suck and the rest of the gang is killed, we get nowhere.
So, it’s either a shuffle or a “keep playing”. Often I just keep on playing. The harder they camp-kill me, the harder I concentrate to take them out. Usually there’s 1-2 good players on either side. So, I try to find/identify the best one in my team, and stick with that guy. If that player’s a medic, I’ll switch to F.o. Hopefullt, within a couple of spawns, the area is cleared from axis rambo medics.
Dash key + invulnerable + teaming up with good player = pay back time.
Well, smart-Loffy, how about Battery? Hm, I must admit I have been pretty angry, when playing public on Seawall battery as allies - especially when axis are good and my team kind of suck. Not pleasant at all. But I try to accept it and charge for that box (build ramp).

To start off with: I’ve camped enemies, and I have been camped by enemies. Shit happens. Though, personally, when my team is camping the enemy at their spawn, I tend to run off, and patrol the objectives, I’ve lost one too many games to some sneaky bastard slipping through a spawn camp, to trust that the camp will stop everyone.
As for being camped, I view it as a challenge. Obviously, me and my team suck so much that we are being held at our spawn, time to get better. Now, I’ll admit that I suck with the SMG, most of the people on this board could probably wipe the floor with me 1v1; but, I’m accurate enough with a panzer to splatter a medic all over the terrain. So, whenever I get spawn camped, I’ll switch over to the panzer and see if I can’t punch a few holes. Or, even with the rifle gernade, I can usually get a small hole, get through and cause some confusion. All it takes is for one or two holes to develop in the spawn camper’s defense, and it can collapse very fast.
More and more, it seems to me that the people whining about spawn camping are those people who are just above newbie, but not quite mediocre yet. They are better at the game than someone just starting, but get slaughtered by someone more experienced. These are also the same people who whine about the panzer being the “n00b tube”. Sure, its an easy weapon to score kills with, but its damn useful some times (e.g. breaking a spawn camp). I remeber being at this point myself a little while back, I used to hate, and whine about spawn camping. I also viewed the panzer as a cheap weapon. I’ve learned since then, and now, spawn camping is a vaild tactic in my book, and the panzer is very useful.
Heck, I remeber a good case of this a while back. On Railgun (playing as allies), the axis had gotten the tug to the depot yard, but we had taken the yard. I set up in the MG, and kept mowing down the axis as they came over the hill. My team made a push and trapped the axis in their spawn. I stayed in the MG to play clean-up in case any of the axis got through, I was rather bored. A few minutes into the spawn rape, one of the axis players starts whining about the spawn camping. I respond by telling him to switch to the panzer and blow his way out. He responds by saying that he will never use the “n00b tube”. To which I basically responded “WTF? Over.”.
This is the type of thing that I see as silly, use the right tactics, and the right weapon for the job at hand. Never view anything as below you, as that is just handicapping yourself pointlessly. Now if the server rules say No Spawn Camping, ok fine, them’s the rules, I’ll follow them. But if that rule isn’t in place, then all bets are off.
Spawn Camping isn’t XP whoring. Its just another choke point type tactic. You wouldn’t call the MG in the bank an XP whore, would you? He’s just picked a different choke point, one that he knows is going to see a lot of action (unless the rest of his team is really good, then he is just a safety net), and he is holding it.
So, to end this rambling post. Either find a server that has, and enforces a “No Spawn Camping” Rule, or suck up, take your medicine and get better at the game.
If your entire team can not take out a single guy with a panzer in under 3 seconds while totally protected (when they know he is going to be there)… maybe you and your team need to re assess your “skill” level.
You obviously missed the words “back of the spawn” in my post. I’ll say that again “back of the spawn”. If you need it explaining please ask.
Call me a psychotic fool (which of course I probably am) but I actually like being spawn camped. It gives me a challenge and motivation to go kick some ass. I play my best when I am annoyed at someone and determined to kill them at all costs.
So I’m on the “who cares” side of the spawn camping debate. If you’re getting camped, break out or shut up and learn how to function as a team. Special cases like flamers/panzers hiding in the spawn follow the same rule.
If you’re killed more than once by the same tactic, you’re painfully dull-witted. If you’re killed more than twice, you need to check yourself into a mental institution right now!
What if you’re playing on a pub and you get the inevitable guy that stops in the doorway, giving the panzer dude the 3 seconds he needs to fire one in the window and wipe out half the team?
Then you wait for the next spawn and go out the OTHER way… even on Railgun Axis can go out the windows… they don’t HAVE to go out the doors. Plus a lot of servers with Shrub and ETPro have the “push” command implemented.
And Agrado I do see your point, I hate those guys too, but at least from my experiences in competition it’s more than a legal tactic… all ya gotta do to avoid it is just hang out in the spawn for a few seconds while a decoy runs out first, so the guy wastes his panzer then you go up and ruin his day. Always very satisfying.
There’s absolutley no reason to kick anybody unless they’re
-
being abusive with language, etc…
-
teammate not helping your team accomplish objectives in anyway
a) bleeders
b) tk’ers
c) etc
That’s my opinion… anything the other team can do to you should not warrant a kick by you or your team. Just how I see it, but it’s obvious I’m not agreed with often.
Spawnkilling is if it’s not whole time ok, but when you keep getting killed by a guy who’s waiting at your spawn with a panzer it sure is xp whoring
:banghead: :bash:
:disgust:
But if u do it yourself you won’t hear anyone :drink:

But competition matches and pub games are completely different things. Competition matches are “win at all costs” (within the rules of the competition
). Pub games are “have fun”. These are different aims and inevitably mean that different “rules” apply.
No, if you keep getting killed by one guy with a panzer near your spawn, you and the rest of your team are doing something really wrong. Go a different way, or let your teammates play bait. Or use the fact that your are utterly invincible for a few seconds to hose the panzer. There are better ways to XP whore than spawn killing, why would someone bother? Spawn killers are just people looking to win, and using the fact that you all come from one spot to do it. Its no different than setting up in any pinch point, just eaiser to get around because you have two exits and a few seconds of invincibility to help you deal with him.
Oh I know, you do make a good point.
I don’t mean it to say as I know it all cause I play competetively, oh wow look at me… I just meant it as something where every little thing counts, and every little thing is important in match play, some things are legal/illegal. I figure if spawn camping was such a huge factor they would make it illegal.
Just a quick example stacking to plant the south gun on Oasis is illegal in a match, however it isn’t on a pub… it’s fun.
So there’s different trade off’s I suppose… but yea I just meant it as I usually look at things where it’s ok to do during a time where it actually “means” something then it’s ok in my book…
I sort of lost myself too, sorry if I made no sense, too many blinking IM’s on my screen right now… ADD :bored:
I suppose in competitive games the teams are never really lopsided enough for one team to totally dominate the other, as happens in pub-servers quite commonly.
