Rahdo's words - what happened here?

(light_sh4v0r) #1001

Never seen that video before. Funny how he says exactly the same things they also said about Brink, with the difference that in ETQW it actually worked.

(.Chris.) #1002

Yeah, he’s spammed similar statements now in multiple threads.

Oh, I see. You were commenting on the fact that I’m in the Brink Hardcore Club and not on the actual content of my posts.

Justificationed!

Oh Paul :frowning:

How could you strafe so far away from this awesomenius and produce BRINK :frowning:

(time: 1:48)
BRINK was prolly the next step to get my grandpa to play the game aswell

(wolfnemesis75) #1005

Paul is the man. More Brink, please.

(Humate) #1006

LOL the thing that I kept looking at was bob and roll.

[QUOTE=GreasedScotsman;378806]Agreed, Humate. I miss these moments…

Oh I remember playing with that chump dude! Ages ago I wanted to see what it would be like to play etqw with a 360 ping, so I joined a random US server. He had most kills with 55 , I had 52, which I found quite surprising and amusing at the same time.

Awesome vid btw.

haha, glad you picked that out - kind of the reason why I posted it.

You know, watching this I get the feeling SD is trying to solve the wrong problem. Everything Locki goes through there as a means to ease players into the game covers probably the first hour or two. Yet the newb stuff that really impacts a server and induces rage and frustration is people who think they know what they are doing but don’t, or those who are off earning some pointless distraction medal.

My point.

SD should work on tutorials to explain the game. And you know what, Brink’s challenges are an excellent start. Just stop using the game as a tool to teach the game and simplifying it as a result.

When that is done, make the game as complicated as you want BUT include tools for teams to communicate effectively. Dump the mission system, to think that is a solution is to say your game is a predictable inflexible experience. Look at Portal 2, give players the ability to communicate with their team mates in traditional and intuitive ways. Let me for example point at a player, select Escort, them point at a location. That player then gets an overlay showing them where I want them to go and they can accept or refuse my request.

Anyway just a thought. And yes I didn’t think it was possible to plug in a keyboard and mouse to demo a game. Maybe after that video Locki tried to jump over the table but it was just an inch too high and he get a nasty keyboard graze… the rest is history they say.

… is the clan recruitment still to come or already cancelled ? … it’s still on the stats site though …

… even that I still play a few times a week, I think if BF3 + MW3 are out, BRINK will die slowly even further … :frowning:

how can something already dead, die?

… I’m still able to play every night with humans and a ping ~50ms … on some days of the week my favorite servers are even full … but, even that it’s still fun to play, I miss some more new content …

… it’s a good training for aiming though … if you can kill someone in a BRINK match, then it’s even easier in BF or CoD …

… no really, with the BF3 demo around the corner and nothing from SD etc. atm, I really think thats it … :frowning:

… I already started donating for private BF3 servers … it’s really sad, but why should I spend my rare time on a game with a level cap, no new content and somehow no future …

… let’s hope that the next SD release will be a long lasting blockbuster …

… I will not turn my back on SD, because they are not the only one who bring out fancy dust catchers …

… I will give BRINK a place beside Borderlands, Metro 2033, Saints Row 2, Duke Nukem Forever and Dead Space 2 …

… just pre-ordered BF3 + MW3 …

… there is no way that SD will be able to get a stable and big BRINK player base back in 4-5 weeks time …

… some weapon tweaks will not do the trick, because there is no hope for further content as it looks like …

I would just wait for Tribes: Ascend, personally. BF3 might be active, but its going in the opposite direction of where most people on this board wanted Brink’s gunplay to go. At least you can move and shoot in Brink… it doesn’t have people lying prone in bushes, and you don’t have to stop and ADS at every range.

I’ll play Brink, Tribes: Ascend, Killzone 2, and Nuclear Dawn (bad gunplay, but great teamwork) until SD’s next game.

(tokamak) #1012

Indeed. Bring the gamer to the complexity of the game, don’t bring the complexity of the game down to the gamer. ETQW managed to cater to new players (perhaps not enough) without having to compromise anywhere.

(Stormchild) #1013

Interesting. ETQW held me for a very long time (and before that, wolf:ET), without me playing much new content (except a bit of custom maps on wolf:et).

If you need levelling to feel like you’re spending your time wisely, it’s your choice. I personnally don’t play Brink for levelling but for teamwork, like I did for the previous SD games. Levelling like that is crap taken from mmo to push people to play more, just like collectables. A game with enough tactical variety and possibilities, and good teamplay and maps, doesn’t need these tricks.

… it’s not only the leveling, but the maps or better the part of the main action of the BRINK maps is in the long run to small and it’s pretty annoying after a while, that you have always to run all the way back to the main action after a re-spawn … it’s unfortunately not much variety in the game … I like the teamwork game-play of BRINK, but as we don’t have a really large crowd playing the game, the battles are after a while similar, because you mostly play with the same people against the same people … compare it with your favorite meal … even if you really like steak, every day steak is boring … that is what I feel with BRINK atm. … I played ETQW for a while, but not every day and not really as a comp … I don’t say that ETQW is a bad game, but I would not say that it’s the best game ever either …

… I never played the BF / CoD-Series before, but as I’m on the search for a new FPS to keep me happy for a while, I installed BC2 / MW2 and had a short look into the SP-campaigns … they’re both different compared to BRINK … I don’t say that they’re better games or that the game-play is 100% what I was searching for, but they have much more action and variety inside … I bought both, because I liked on one hand this really action-packed fights in this tight areas of MW2 and on the other hand I liked the more sniper-like game-play with the destructible battlefield of BC2 … I’m really looking forward to the multi-player parts and hope that one of them will be great in all belongings to keep me excited for a while …

… if BRINK-2 or ETQW-2 will ever be released, I will have a closer look and maybe buy them too … if we get more content for BRINK then I will possibly buy them also, but only if there is still somehow a player-base existent, because I don’t want to play against bots or the same humans all the time …

Actually Ive ranted about this exact thing quite a few times. The challenge system is a step in right direction, and I thought it was the best aspect of the game. But it was training wheels for training wheels.

As for overlays and intuitive comm tools - that would be cool, as long as the standard manual vsays still exist.

(tokamak) #1016

I’m not sure why the ETQW communication was dropped (not enough controller buttons I guess…). It’s the only game that got it right and where people actually responded to what you said through it. Even things more complex than ‘need a medic’ or ‘repair the vehicle’ still got picked up and understood and it enhanced team-work tremendously. Especially for people who aren’t sure what they could be doing best as well as people who know exactly what should be done but won’t be able to do it alone.

(Crytiqal) #1017

I HATE the automatic voice message in BRINK. Sometimes I am running around and you hear stuff like, Need a medic, or, enemy mines spotted, or, He has the same face as I do, enemy in disguise!. And then I have no ***ing clue WHO is talking and WHERE this is?! It’s useless :s

Nuclear Dawn is PC only as well. I mostly play on PC now. I only keep my PS3 because 1) my favorite Brink people to play with are on PS3, and 2) Killzone 2, which honestly is stuck on the wrong platform, and should be on PC instead.

I can understand why some people would like realistic, military shooters… as they are immersive experiences. But they don’t make for good “esports”.
