Rahdo's words - what happened here?

(Verticae) #1

Source here.

A quick selection of quotes that don’t apply to the game anymore:

Anyone see a medpack yet?

Not even that.

Where is this? A fully customizable server for competitive play would be killer; it’d honestly have saved this game from it’s competitive death.

Burst fire is not eliminated at all with burst fire, unless you wait a full second between bursts. Then it’s a little less.

No, and no.

The specifics right now: No demo recording.

Simply false. There’s no ‘manual’ alternative for SMART.

I might sound a little harsh here, but these few points alone would’ve meant a massive improvement for Brink, both in a public and a competitive way. I’d like to ask Splash Damage what happened to these features; why aren’t they ingame?

(DarkangelUK) #2

At the time they were probably true, but things change, requirements change out of necessity… maybe SD saw fit to change, maybe Bethesda wanted to them changed, who knows. My question to you is, are you really expecting an answer?

(Wildkarrde) #3

At least a thread lock is like an answer

(coolstory) #4

Rahdo’s answers to most of the comp. community’s questions were one of the reasons my friends and I bought this game…feel like he lied to us. :frowning:

(Reanimator) #5

You can manually do the moves. What do you mean SMART is the only way?

Another GEM from that interview

Q: Will ironsight change weapon stats other than accuracy? (asking because of fallout 3 felt like it did, actually I really like the idea one posted up, using ironsight for heavy class and for light class something like crouching or just increased accuracy since they move quite a lot and do less damage I assume).
A: Ironsights remove all spread, naturally, and bring the FOV in narrower to make targets bigger. Also, there’s some other stuff we’re wanting to do with ironsights that I think is kind of cool and unique, but i know you guys won’t care about it (plus it’s yet to make it in, so i can’t guarantee it’ll be there anyway).

(thesuzukimethod) #7

totally understand the frustration that some of this stuff didnt make it in (yet, or at all). Will say, many of the responses sound like the sorts of brainstorming you do when you’re thinking about what you would like to do before you go through the process of actually coding/working it up to make it happen, and are pretty non-commital, so to call them lies seem hyperbolic…that, plus the age of this interview (almost 2 years back) = not surprised it’s not exactly as it was envisioned at that point in time.

hopefully some of this stuff is still on the way (comments regarding comp tweaks for PC give me hope that you guys will get some of what you want)

(Thundermuffin) #8

He answered these questions over and over for over a year (and then replied to various other threads on forums like Crossfire), so why wouldn’t he mention it changing? He kept telling people to read the thread when they asked questions about spread or movement, which made everyone think it was still the same.

To be honest, rahdo should answer us because it’s obvious a great deal of us bought the game because SD said they learned from ET:QW and rahdo was posting all of these things that were exactly what the comp community wanted. It isn’t like it was a “too good to be true” situation as we’ve had other games with these types of features in the past (even SD’s own games had some of the stuff people were asking for).

(MrFoxer) #9

What a descriptive thread title.

(Jess Alon) #10

So as of today, Wedgwood has his own criticism thread for something he said a long time ago.

Rahdo’s got this one.

Hey even badman has one addressed to him in general.

Hey, why don’t we go ahead and make a thread about each interview that ultimately disappointed us? That wouldn’t take much space on the boards would it? Hey we can even make one for each individual employee of bethesda too because there’s no way to really know who told who to do what or why.

So let’s make more threads about those 3 year old interviews just to be safe.

Or they could all just get merged together, titled “According to these interviews I saw a long time ago I’m disappointed all over again.” And then they can lock it and add every subsequent interview disappointment complainer fest thread to that thread so those of us that still actually play brink can discuss brink.

I swear… watching old interviews and then doing this is like watching some sex tape of your ex doing your best friend 3 years later after you guys broke up and then posting on her facebook about how you thought she was special and then giving a play by play of how you think she’s a whore according to what’s in that video.

Focus on the present. The past is behind you. There’s too much whining. If you want to complain then email the devs about it. Or start a I hate Brink forum and you guys can all circle jerk over there. But despite what you believe, your generic complaint that you’ve posted in 20 other threads doesn’t warrant it’s own thread.

Thanks.

Rahdo on 15/06/11, 23:00:40 GMT

I’m happy it’s selling really well and getting decent play levels on console, and heartbroken it’s not as popular on PC, since we made a lot of sacrifices to make it as PC friendly as possible. And I’m very proud of the game.

We paid 50$ for the game rahdo sold us; that’s why we’re all ticked off. If the guy who takes this game to every major expo and posts about it all over gaming forums lies to the computer community as a whole you should expect a lot of threads complaining about it. The quote Anthony posted up there says they put a lot of effort into this for the PC community, but I really don’t see it at all. Basic computer game features are gone (Spectating, demos, etc) and basic competitive features (pause, lock teams, etc) are missing.

It’s like you going out to eat, being told what the special is and ordering it, but when it comes its a lackluster dish without any of the actual flavor. That’s essentially what happened, BRINK was a PC gaming special and was said to have tons and tons of flavor. When it drops, however, everyone realizes how bland it tasted.

I don’t buy a lot of games, but I went as far as to preorder BRINK because it was Splash Damage and they had made all these claims that they were listening and learning from their previous titles and this was going to be an amazing game, both for pubs and competition. Obviously, neither happened and it’s going to take a lot to make me jump ship from TF2 and CS:S now. It’s amazing to think that in 2011 you can’t even beat the features that were present in a 2004 game that hasn’t had a really big, feature packed update in a long, long time.

Yeah but a healthy amount of XBOX players are happy with what they got. I wish there were PS3, xbox, and PC forums and a general Brink forum. Because the problems you guys have aren’t going to be the same for us.

Regardless I’ve heard the PC version is better, looks better, and obviously you guys are getting updates faster then the rest of us.

But it’s mostly PC players complaining.

What sacrifices is he talking about?? I dont see any…

As for sacrifices, I am quite sure that actual animal sacrifice have no impact on game.

And being proud of special “children” is nothing to be ashamed of.

Looking forward to another game from you. "

LOL

Proof of why badman has to proof read whatever the devs tell people on here. Because Rahdo made himself look like a business man instead of a PC gamer.

I wouldn’t really call having to add people who play BRINK to your friends list just so you can get a full game as “healthy.”

Our updates suck; we still haven’t gotten anything we’ve asked for, instead of making every gun worthwhile they made them all suck, and the map design results for fullholds all the time. It’s not a real PC title at all, and unless you care about graphics it feels more like a console game than a PC game.
