Radar map... TO MUCH FOLIAGE!! Low FPS

The Sweden Radar map has way to much foliage and in the heat of battle, if your in that brush, you are screwed. On a regular my fps is 40 - 20… in the foliage it goes down to about 8.

A SD Dev please PLEASE respond to this… telling me how to disable foliage, or if this is going to be fixed in the next patch

weaver its your graphic card, the GF4 MX is alot less powerfull than the GF4 TI range.

Why should he buy a new video card? It’s one map, for crying out loud! I have the same problem. Honestly, I don’t care about insanely high FPS, but I demand above 15!!! On average, I get between 20 and 40 FPS on the other maps. However, the insane amount of foliage on that one map brings me down to about 5 or 10. Not good.

Yes, I realize that my video card is hurting my performance, but it serves its purpose. I play RtCW, RtCW: ET, and UT. RtCW (25 FPS - 85 FPS) and RtCW: ET (20 FPS - 40 FPS) don’t run nearly as well as UT, but they don’t run so slowly that it’s unbearable. Honestly, depending on the map, I can get a consistent FPS of above 60, yet I fail to see what all the fuss is about. I could care less how smoothly the game plays when I’m caught up in the moment.

They should just do something about that foliage. Same goes for the weather effects. I’d settle for the foliage issue being resolved, though. It creates a horrible inconsistency in the game.

I have same problem with a GeForce FX 5200 (128mb), from 40+ FPS to 15-20.

I have been experimenting with r_drawfoliage (using \devmap radar), and have regained around 15fps extra without the foliage. Notice this var is cheat protected by the engine. I also noticed that the big trees on the radar map seem to consume more power than trees on other maps.

Ovarall, i think the radar map needs to be readjusted, it consumes a lot more power than the other maps and the specs specified in the minimum system requirements.

I know allowing us to disable foliage may be unfair, but you could leave the var unlocked, and let servers admin decide what to allow using punkbuster.

Or maybe provide us with an alternate draw method for foliage, like multiple layers of flat textures that always face tha camara. Something that will keep the gameplay fair, and not consume as much processing (even if it doesn’t look as nice)

You know, although the foliage really bogs down my computer, I must admit that it looks damn good. I went prone in the foliage and crawled through it, just to get a better look at it. I realize that its main purpose is to hide prone soldiers and such, but the second post above this one makes a good point.

I too have problems with this map :frowning:
drops to around 12 - 15 Fps on a busy server
all other maps stay around my 43fps cap & drop to 22-25 min.

My spec’s
AMD 1.4 Ghz
768 Mb Ram
Geforce2 Ultra 64Mb

settings:
1024x768
16bit textures
32bit colour depth
no detail textures
no antioscropic
normal geomatry, character textures & textures

I guess this should be the minimum spec for ET ?

btw running at lower res (800 x 600) gives a slight improvment,
but not as much as one may expect :frowning:

I’m running around 50fps

settings:
2048x1024 @ all details on/max

3ghz cpu 768ram and ti4600

I don’t like the foliage because it looks all the same and cloned. :wink:
but weather effects are cool.

Yeah i have less than 10fps on most part of the map same as the railgun map. Then again i do play on a laptop with a crappy vid card. Just means I have a lot of money to save up for a new system. Until then im just going to avoid these maps :frowning:

guys, u need your own config with system and graphics settings. I guess u can’t change all of most important param-s through the option menu.
So try to

  1. Switch off dynamics lightning
  2. Set vertex li-g
  3. Switch off all the explosives effectes

if there is no any effect, so try this (quality will be ugly but fps will be better

Guys…as you know gaming is always improving…you need to improve also with hardware!! :disgust:

That card of yours is OLD!!! Time to upgrade… That card does not even have DDR ram it has slow SD Ram…

I think the point is, the other maps run FABULOUS compared to this one.

I just make my way to a spot where I get better FPS and set up shop.
