Radar map... TO MUCH FOLIAGE!! Low FPS

([GORE]Hallelujah) #21

well, here’s my contribution.

P-4 2,4Ghz
512 DDR-333 RAM
GF4 Ti 4600

Have like 55-60 stable FPS on those spots with excessive foliage. BUT: if there’s a hard combat going on it lowers to about 40-45. That’s quite acceptable, but not everyone runs p-4 2,4 equipped with latest videocards …

Also, if you use scope/binoculars to look there (even from a distance) - FPS (even without a combat going on there) lowers even more: when sniping ppl on those grassy hills - I have stable 30 FPS … oops.

Apart from the FPS issue:

  1. this foliage looks ugly, all cloned = doesn’t add anything to the overall attractiveness of the level.
  2. what does it give in terms of the gameplay? One can’t actually hide and camp there as this spot is often crowded and airstriked.

Maybe SD will remove it?

athlon 1500+
512 mb ddr ram
gf4 ti4200 128mb
windows 2000

most areas in ET i get 40(outdoors)-90(indoors) the foliage drops me to 25 in some areas. not unplayable for me, but i can see how it could be unplayable for someone with a weaker system.

on another note, i dont see rain/snow affecting vision enough to warrant locking it (even locking it wasnt messed up as nd80 indicated). in q3f2 (with the same coding duo of rr2/djbob, and some other splashdamage peoples…) no one considers it cheating to disable it. in fact 90% of people disable it to get a tad more frames.

(Brinkman) #23

runs great @ 1280x1024 maxed out

athlon 2000+
geforce 4 4200 (overclocked)
512mb ddr

i dig the map… going prone and sneaking up on people is cool…

the grass adds to the atmosphere

(Womprat) #24

guess I’ll add mine to the list here…

p3 800 Mhz
320 MB ram
gf2 (32mb)
800x600, mid detail settings, no major tweaks

In the grass the framerate stays at 20-30. Worst I saw was 17fps.

So it’s still playable for me and I have the slowest system so far listed. The big open areas on the fuel dump hurt my framerate more than anything else.
And the grass is fun. I go prone in it and most enemys just walk right past. I’ve had them actually bump (:bump:) into me and just continue past. It’s also fun to go prone in the grass when teammates are dying; I can survive some nasty fights that way.

athlon xp 2500+ barton core clocked to 2.1ghz
1gb ddr pc 3200
radeon 9700 pro

with that you would expect high fps but you dont … i can drop down to 30fps. ii feel my pc spec is fairly high end for home work horse.

(PaulS) #26

:bump: After reading all of these posts it appears that even a “high” end system has a hard time with frames per second in certain areas - that is keeping them above 50FPS at all times. 3D Mark scores for the guy with the Barton core and the 9700 for even the “Nature” segment can be higher and yaknow just about every leaf is moving water running, butterflys flapping ect…ect…ect… Someting else seems to happening here… Splash guys what do you think?? Is it “CAULKING” of yopur maps?. Ya know the map “Dam” had a similar problem in the stairway (a Splash Damage Map).
I had read that even though your field of view in Dam was only the stairway your graphics card was drawing the entire map even areas that were not in your field of vision - this cused unacceptable frame rates…
IN RTCW many excellent maps such as Ressurection by RIVRSTYK is no longer played because of its low frame rates… food for thought…
Great work on this game…Except for the frames issue it’s great and the fast turnaround on your correcting BETA Test issues and adding ideas by the on line community was a surprise and very well done!!

No problem on any maps for me.
P4-2.8g
1024 RAM
Radeon 9800 Pro
T1 connection.

Duron 1GHz, 512MB RAM, GeForce2 TI and the level runs smoothly on 1024x768.

I have most details tuned down but by FPS was still very low (especially if I used my binocs to scan for mines), than I’ve upgraded my nVidia drivers from 40.xx to 44.xx and now everything runs smoothly !

Try the latest drivers and see whether it improves your performance.

([fun]scott) #29

im the guy with the barton adn radeon 9700… futuremarks 2003 scores were around 5400 if i rember correctly 3d mark 2001 was 17600

(Mystiqq) #30

my concern is that when using binoculars /snipers scope, the ftp is halfed instantly… on the radat map / foliage on sight…
otherwise i get stable good playable fps on my piece of s*it amd 900 gf2 gts 32

they should fix this

cheers

I’m sorry, but although I do sympathise with your fps issues I would miss the lovely ‘foliage’

I like nothing better than to have a good wriggle in the long grass - it just feels kind of natural and ‘at one with the earth’

…and jumping out on an enemy from behind a tree makes the game worth while. Some maps give us the chance to climb trees which is absolutely necessary in the heat of a battle. I saw Michael Jackson in one the other day - I’m sure.

I know it’s benign and childish, but I just can’t stop myself. I believe it’s called FuN.

AMD XP thingy, .5Gb, 4600Ti. 8x6 fixed at 75fps(hz) and runs just dandy.

oh…and the mx chipset smells. sorry.

(Weaver24) #32

Ya… I desperatley need a new graphics card. I just don’t have the money.
I have a
Amd XP athlon 2.0 Ghz
512 Ram
and A GF4 Mx 420

Is the reason for my crappy FPS my graphics card?

(Kekojones) #33

you can bet it is. I have a Amd XP athlon 1.8 Ghz 512 Ram and ATI Radeon 9500 Non PRo (Overclocked to 9700) and my FPS don’t go lower than 15 even on heavy firefights.

Start saving…Video card prices are getting lower every day. Try to get a hold of some ATI 9500 128MB non-pro models. With a set of hacked drivers you can converted on a 9500 PRO saving yourself like 15 bucks. There are soem cards that can even be converted to a 9700 PRO saving yourself like 170 bucks (Like I did  )

(Berserk) #34

I have a 600 mhz Athlon and Voodoo 3… guess how it runs for me

(Descender) #35

I think my system is a good illustration of how a decent graphics card can help.

I’ve got a Duron 850MHz w/ 384MB PC133 SDRAM + LeadTek GF4 Ti4200 DDR 128MB

Radar runs quite decent for me, with at least 15-20 in hot fights with or without rain turned on. Without anybody, my framerate can stay above 40+ FPS in the radar area.

(Dantastic) #36

I have an Athlon XP 1600+ with 768MB of RAM and a 128MB Ti4200 video card and have never noticed a problem with this. The people still running on Geforce 2’s shouldn’t really be complaining… go play counter-strike or Day of Defeat if you’re too cheap to upgrade your computer.

(Simon Charles) #37

Weird. On my machine, all maps perform equally well. Never below 40 FPS. I run in 1024 with everything maxed out.

Athlon XP 2000
512mb ram
GeForce 4 Ti 4200

The foliage you guys are talking about doesn’t slow down the game one bit for me. :???: Wish I could help.

(BlackDeath) #38

Why, if it runs every other map with 40 fps??

Oh, and btw, I only get about 8 fps on Radar, but i always get highest fragger…

Get another card, pft…

B_D

(Dantastic) #39

get back to half-life then

(BlackDeath) #40

I got sick of it cause i was too damn good, no more challenge left…

Jesus, you see alot of other people with high end systems having the same problem…

Besides, ill still kill you without a sweat even if i got 8 fps
