QuakeCon officially announced

(Joe999) #1

finally. so in about a month plus a few days we can expect more footage from our highly anticipated game:

We know you all have been waiting to find out about QuakeCon 2006, and we want to thank you for your patience. We’ve had some unexpected issues locking in the dates and location, but don’t worry, we’re still bringing you another kick-ass QuakeCon event, and it’s already right around the corner - August 3 – 6 in Dallas, TX at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in their Trinity Exhibition Center.

With about 1,800 BYOC spots, QuakeCon 2006 will be a bit more exclusive than it has been the last couple of years, but we hope people will enjoy the more personal touch this year. QuakeCon 2006 will of course include all the great activities that it’s known for, including high-stakes tournaments, workshops, exhibitors, the BYOC Area, parties, and the public’s first chance to play Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.

First-come, first-served online registration for the BYOC area will kick off at 9 p.m. EST on Wednesday, June 28th, 2006, at www.quakecon.org.

To reserve a room for QuakeCon 2006, call the Hilton Anatole Hotel at 214-761-7500, or Hilton’s toll-free reservation number, 1-800-HILTONS. To receive our specially negotiated room rate of $125 (single, double, triple, or quad occupancy), and our special daily self-park rate of $5 (regularly $15 per day), you must request the group rate for “QuakeCon 2006 when making your reservations. The Hotel requires a $50 non-refundable deposit on group reservations, which will be credited to your final room bill upon check-out. Rooms at this rate are limited, so don’t wait! Additional information regarding the Hilton Anatole Hotel is available at http://www.hilton.com.

*** The QuakeCon room rate is available starting Monday June 26th at 12 noon CST ***

It is important to note again that the only way to receive the special room rate of $125 and the $5 daily self-parking, is to call Hilton reservations at the numbers listed above and book your reservation under QuakeCon 2006.

We’ll have details about the event schedule and tournaments very soon. Thanks for being patient, and get ready for another great QuakeCon.

does this mean a demo? hmmmmm…

(Ifurita) #3

So who’s going? I’ll register but I think I’m a bit on the fence right now whether to go, given that it’s less than 6 weeks away.

(cmos) #4

Hmm, probably just 24 computers with ETQW installed on?

(Hakuryu) #5

I’d love to go, but $125 a night? Hook me up with the nearby $20 a night motel. I’m also wondering about how many QW’s computers will be up and running, and if you get a 1/2 hour stint or something… I’ll go, stay in a motel, and just play Quake Wars all weekend :stuck_out_tongue:

(Nail) #6

hmmm, byoc and QW, makes those 10gig usb drives even more interesting

Hook me up with the nearby $20 a night motel.

eewwww, you’re better off sleeping in your car

Super 8 runs $42 -$72/ night in Dallas area

What I’d do for a demo.

Pity its too early for a demo to be released.

(taken) #8

I want invite beta / Demo =)

Anyways, this is gooooood news!

(EB) #9

No ETQW demo yet but you can get the prey demo and keep saying “wtf” like I did, as you play the beginning.
…different but not different enough IMO. Looks like Quake 4 on steroids.

oops, probably shouldn’t have said that in a Quakecon thread eh ? sorry.

(Etnies) #10

because you’ve been so loyal in all and been playin et years right?! lol

(Joe999) #11

thought the same. i played it for like 10 minutes (sp) and 5 minutes (mp), then stopped. i just can’t see shooters anymore which have stupid gameplay and mostly consist of small rooms and tiny corridors. prey is only a hype, i neither like the single player nor the multiplayer. i’m used to better quality gameplay, and it’s all SD’s fault, they raised the bar too high with ET

(EB) #12

cheers to that Joe!

(Rhoades) #13

because you’ve been so loyal in all and been playin et years right?! lol[/quote]
lol, exactly. :drink:

(BR1GAND) #14

10 hour drive, $375 for hotel, almost the same for Gas and Food, and hours of waiting in-line w/computer all for a chance to play ET:QWs? Ok im in! :rocker:

(EB) #15

There is a $50 tax payable to me for you having the ability to drive for 10 hours without picking me up on the way. BTW I’m in NY… :stuck_out_tongue:

(BR1GAND) #16

Lol, Like NY is on the way to TX from AL…

(datoo) #17

Somehow this doesn’t excite me. Maybe because it would mean I’d have to drive to Texas.

(Schizma) #18

I thought E3 2006 was the publics first chance to play ET:QW? Maybe this means a demo? Or a beta? Im guessing the demo will come out soon after though, they’ve announced a demo 3-5 weeks before the full game is released so thats a good month and maybe a half, and that will be a later in the year release, which they’ve kinda sort of announced. I just hope QW gets a demo out before BF 2142, just so more people see how much more awesome QW will be then BF2142

(kamikazee) #19

That might work… OR we could let people play around with BF2142’s open beta to see what bugs are in there and then release an (nearly) unflawed demo unto them.

(Mordenkainen) #20

No. Only industry and press can attend E3 (and you pay through the nose). When they say “public” they mean everybody.
