Quake Wars Uncut

(General.Jung) #1

Hello Forum,

will be an uncut version of Quake Wars released, because i did not see any gore at the videos, or were these cuted for the teens.

(kamikazee) #2

Who knows if there even will be gore footage? Even though it bears Quake in the name, you can as well play a game without gibs.

Since when have games ever had “cut and uncut” versions? I highly doubt they’ll be starting that trend with ETQW. Although I like to have a little gore in my action games, it really doesn’t matter to me if there isn’t a single drop of blood in this game.

Do we even know if this game has gibbing of any kind? Seems like any downed soldier that doesn’t die inside a vehicle can be revived, even if they die to a huge vehicle cannon explosion or airstrike. Plus spawn hosts can’t be gibbed by just shooting them, last I heard they have to be cleared by defibrillators. I’m kind of guessing you can’t gib non-spawn-host downed soldiers by normal means either.

For the record: there are “cut” versions, mostly made for Germany. Though in that case I would rather use the term “mutilated” instead of “cut”.

quake4 comes to mind

that’s the reason why I already ordered the english version to be on the safe side…

yeah and pedestrians in Carmageddon became zombies with green blood in the italian version, if I remember correctly.

Personally, I consider ET:QW as e-sport or tactical game, not a splatter like Painkiller. Even though you get to kill characters, I think blood is a “disturbing element” somehow. This is what I thought the other day, when I saw a video of Crysis where blood is seen spurting from the koreans in large quantities. I don’t think there was in FarCry :?

Bottomline: it shouldn’t be in. If it’s on, I’ll turn it off.

FPS games have come a long way since Doom. I can accept that some people have a weak stomach for violence. Why they play a violence based game is beyond me, but to each his own. What’s Quake without the gib though? Past id games are well-known for their gore, I don’t think this should be an exception. Perhaps a check box to turn off blood splatter would be good enough? I dunno.

its made for the pub, dude…

(kamikazee) #9

It’s made for both, or where did you guess they asked all those “pro’s” for?
(Note the quotes, results may vary.)

(darki) #10

damn, hes still not banned… but im waiting

(SKaREO) #11

ET games are well known pub playing games, maybe the occasional clan match. Definately not a “pro” FPS title by any means. I think the actual pros are going to continue playing games like Counter-Strike, Painkiller, and the upcoming Severity which is funded by The CPL.

Most people are coming here for a public server shooting fest with a bit of strategy mixed in AFAIK. Similar to how the BF franchise is, only better.

wils…why the hell did u delete my post? dont like it, nuke it?

(Wils) #13

I thought you might take the hint that it wasn’t acceptable conduct. Oh well.

Seems like Jack Thomson made a pact with Strogg Army, so now they bleede
a juicy which power up their guns n’ ammo and health, while GDF have no blood at all, gg

Hello Forum,

thanks for the replies, i am not a gore freak but it is a must have for realism, so i hope there will be some gore into the game. I will also import it fom UK. At SKaREO: Sorry Americas Army Player (gore is a problem there).

(kamikazee) #16

Quickly, run whilst you still can before the villagers hear the word “realism”. :stroggtapir:

Hello kamikazee,

yes good idea - no comment needed.

I guess I’ll be the first villager to cast a stone, … because I shudder when people discuss or request something specific as being realistic. Everyone tends to be picky about some things, while overlooking others. As a disclaimer, I’ll say that I’m guilty of this too.

I’ll use reloading as an example. The idea that guns have a set, limited ammo capacity and must be refilled is obviously realistic. Just put in a nice looking animation and most people feel satisfied with it being realistic (uggghhh, CS fans). However, the “ammo pool” method of reloading is insanely unrealistic – if you have 2 magazines of 30 rounds each, fire 15 shots, then reload and fire another 15 shots… you have 2 half filled mags, which do not magically combine into 1 full 30 round mag. Really only a handful of games use the realistic model, such as America’s Army.

In terms of injury, you might claim that a little blood is realistic. Sure. But then you would also need broken bones, hit-able internal organs, etc. Hell, most games don’t even have “partial injury effects” where you slow down, limp or whatever when injured. I think everyone hates how you have to bandage yourself to quit bleeding out health after being shot in Action Quake 2. Oblivion is the only recent game I can think of with ragdoll physics, where you could knock someone down off their feet without killing them (and they have an animation to get back up, alive and slightly-well) - in most games, things go from 100% functional to suddenly limp ragdoll without anything in between.

I apologize for the long-winded post, but those are my feelings towards people who ask for more “realistic features” in games. I do enjoy realistic features when they work right, but I also enjoy ludicrous features like rocket jumping - in the end, I think we should just be satisfied with what’s fun.

if I can use it for hit detection, I’ll leave it on, otherwise off as usual

(Dr_Tenma) #20

Already has hitsounds in game, and the old videos had that small red ring inside your crosshairs light up when you hit stuff. Blood as another queue is probably unnecessary.
