Punkbuster

(scud24) #1

today i got kicked from the bullet hell server for having no packet flow but i have no idea how this happened since i didnt have any problems in the past and i dont think i have changed anything that might cause this.

could this be something to do with net_clientprediction?
if not does anyone know what when wrong and how i can fix it?

(Dthy) #2

happens to everyone from time to time. If you keep getting it constantly (to the point where you can’t play) re-install PB, if not ignore it and keep playing.

(tokamak) #3

I got kicked out three times in a row from different servers today.

(BomBaKlaK) #4

Same for me 2 days ago ! as usual : MD5tools queries no packet flow !!! bit boring !!

(Susefreak) #5

I once tried to put a sock on while driving…

Issues with the packetflow: set the following cvar: pb_sleep 500

(tokamak) #6

And what to do with the MD5tools? I never seen those before.

(Nail) #7

“MD5 Tool” is piece of software that will allow you to simply generate the MD5 hash (or signature) of one or more files.

but in this case it’s punkbuster not being able to query the client to check MD5 signature due to no packet flow or being blocked by 3rd party software

(brbrbr) #8

something/someone messign with you traffic on you PC/gateway/ISP.
check/fix everything.

(scud24) #9

i think it was a serverside problem it only happens on bullet hell.
thanks anyway

sometimes some admins[or someone exploited and hijacked ETQW servers to get control over it]use firewall software on ETQW server to trottle some players from access 2 it.
this was against rules for ranked servers.
and while admin acused in that too many times, server can lose “ranked” status.
remember: ranked servers NOT OWNED by admins. just RENTED[on some rules].

(Susefreak) #11

You sir are talking out of your arse, more as usual.

Ranked servers are only available from GSP’s and the only settings a admin can set are game settings. The rest comes from the GSP’s, with the rest I mean firewall, ports and the lot.

A rather bold statement to make by the way scud24, there are quite some factors you have to rule out before you can be absolutely sure. Traceroute to the server, ping, latency, own connectio (wifi or lan), etc.

Again setting pb_sleep 500 makes PB only send it’s stuff every half a second, rather then every .25 to .15 second.

(brbrbr) #12

there are plenty of ways for GSP to be “absolytely sure” in such cases.
quicker and more definitife[for renting rules, violators].

(scud24) #13

from what you said it sounds like you think that I am talking trash about bullet hell’s server.
I only stated that I was having a certain problem (“no packet flow”) on one server and did not have the same problem on others.

(Susefreak) #14

Wasn’t imply in that, I just wanted to say that there are quite some factors that take part in why you’re having issues connecting to BH, before saying it’s “just a server-side issue”, which I’m a bit allergic for being a server admin myself.

I’m sorry to hear you had trouble on our server.

The MD5 check is something that is provided by Punkbuster, but my guess is that it’s not enabled on most servers. It is on ours though and sometimes people get kicked because PB can’t perform the check for whatever reason. This probably meant that your connection to our server wasn’t working properly, in most cases it’s a temporary issue and the kick is temporary as well. You should be able to rejoin, since you’re not in our current pb banlist.

If you want a more detailed explanation, check this page on the evenbalance site.

PunkBuster - preventing everyone except the cheaters from playing since 2001.

(hellreturn) #17

Their last update in W:Et screwed up every single server running PB.

They are showing no signs fixing it. Every single player gets kicks for violation #9014 ignoring queries.

I hope Activision / Splashdamage or anyone who holds contract with them, can send them notice to fix the issue. It looks like they have stopped listening to players.

(Brainless) #18

The problems with PB are mostlike a connection issue. Some router/modem don’t let them get to the computer that’s running the game.
Had a kick once or twice that i remember one is for O/S problem. went from XP to Win7 64bit. S that could be it.
Second time idk where for but after a reboot i could play again. IMO an incident.

an update of pb can help or open ports in the router for pb. Maybe that helps.
If not contact evenbalance and maybe they help. They don’t have every solution.

If the ((bh)) gives you any problem with PB try these things, there are a lot of players that can play on the server. So it has to be the connection if it is the US or your own country.

To be honest i think the connection in the US sucks. Lot of lag and other problems. That fan also be an problem with PB.

Like others have said it’s not really a server side issue. I see people get dropped due to Mismatched Tools/No Packet Flow on EVERY server I play on. It’s happened to me numerous times no matter where I play. Usually if I just close the game and reopen it things work fine, though sometimes it takes a PC restart for things to normal out again.

From experience and what others have said in the past (on the old comm forums) it’s more of an issue with the client and the actual PB master server and not the individual game servers. Hell, I have even seen PB kick everybody on a server on multiple occasions in the past, it was hilarious to watch.
