playing with cg_fov 120 (I m8 understand that, although it’s lame. Who wants to play with a fov of 90 ???),
playing with invert mouse,
and some other strange cvars which I didn’t know what they do (for example r_uifullscreen or somethink like that).
I got kicked because PB couldn’t contact it’s master server. I’m playing on Linux, I have an iptables-firewall, but there’s no rule to block PBs server. So because their server is down, I can’t play ? Great.
I got kicked for some other errors, which I actually didn’t understand.
Reading the forum, I noticed there are some errors that kick players without a reason.
I don’t think there’s a big cheat problem on RtcW or ET. CS is full of cheaters, Wolf is not.
I’ve seen a friend playing CS on a Punkbuster enabled server. He used an aimbot and some other hacks without getting kicked.
I don’t like the idea that Punkbuster can ban players (I know only on PB enabled servers). Who gives them the right to ban someone ?
So I think PB gives more trouble than it helps.
It really destroys the “go on a server and have some nice frags”-experience. Before you can play you’ve got to struggle with PB.
i got sick of punk buster 2, when i joined a server were u had 2 have the punkbuster client enabled i get kicked all the time or recieve some error that got me kicked of the sevrer. Im now sticking with non- punk buster servers and i have no problems with those…

It’s their server, it’s up to them, besides r_uifullscreen is a big cheat on certain maps (like Assault for instance).
I’ve never been kicked because PB couldn’t contact it’s master server. If it can’t contact the server it just doesn’t auto-update, surely?
So? Just cos you didn’t understand them doesn’t mean you weren’t using cvars that shouldn’t be allowed.

PB doesn’t ban anyone, it’s the server admins who ban, and as it’s their server they can ban whoever the hell they feel like. You have no “right” to play on any server.
R_uifullscreen enables/diables fog, so I consider this is a cheat on certain maps. And some maps rely on fog-clipping, so you will get strange graphics if its disabled.
I hate it too ! It causes so many problems. It’s bad enough that the game crashes. This can’t really be avoided, it’s pretty complicated code right… But PB is a simple piece of software that is constantly and consistantly making the games NO FUN! When I wanna play, I don’t want to spend an hour trying to figure out why PB broke AGAIN.

A lot of leagues enforce cvars, and so do a lot of server admins. This is done to prevent cheating and so everyone has an even playing field. In principle anyways… It’s stupid that you get KICKED… They could just leave you in the game without spec and let you fix your setting but no… kicked for 2 minutes. This helps convince people that PB is TOUGH and enforces strick no cheating rules because it KICKS people… oooooh.

I know… I think that’s a bad cvar to enforce. People should get to play with a fov they are comfortable with.

R_uifullscreen enables/disables hardware openGL. It could also mean that fog is not rendered on some cards. On some cards this does not affect fog. R_uifullscreen also means someone could be using a wallhack as there have been software opengl drivers that have wall/transparency hack “features”. So to be safe this is enforced. To be honest, people running wallhacks also run punkbuster hacks so it really doesn’t help much if you ask me.

Evenbalance had to close their forums because too many people came there to bitch and complain.

There are just as many cheats in wolf per capita. Any game with PB can be hacked… When PB for any game is updated, a group of people are quick to release their new PB hacks.

I don’t think they ever did global banning. They talked about it to sound tough and convince people punkbuster was going to help. But they never got around to it.

yeah pb sure does cause problems. and does nothing short of enforcing cvars which could be a feature in the game itself. And at least then it would be a little harder to release hacks that let you cheat. As it stands now you disable punkbuster, load up the PB hack and your sailin.

TOTALLY! Last night after getting kicked I gave up and watched a defrag. It was more fun.
And NO I never ever used a cheat online.
I have but they really suck. I play much better without changing any settings in my client.
That’s odd, complainats about PB. I run a PB enabled server, I play on PB enabled servers. I have never been klicked by PB for any reason. I do not have a problem with PB. Maybe because I leave the cvars at their defaults and play the game the way the developers intended. I would suggest you simply play on non PB servers and it will solve all your problems, or at least your RTCW-ET PB related problems.</br>
I as well have never had an issue with PB on my server or when I was playing. I welcome this software with games. It gets rid of the 5 year olds who can’t aim with a mouse who ruin the fun. I should know I played Jedi Knight (the first one) online talk about cheating… You think CS is bad wait until you see the people flying around with saber that can kill you when they swing it (note doesn’t matter if they see you or not you just die)
I say keep PunkBuster and if you don’t like it do what Even Balance says delete your PB folder and go play on non PB servers us PB enable server admins don’t care.
Server owners, They can ban whoever they want, for just about any reason. It is there server, as someone said above, you have no rights if you play there. They can ban you if you lost your helmet if they want, it’s there thing. They own the server, and the data it transfers through it, therefore it owns you.
Shouldn’t draw distance should be the same with r_uifullscreen disabled as long as your not using modified drivers. ie, black instead of grey particles? That’s the way it is on ATI and voodoo.
What do you actually think is gonna happen? Cause you dont like PB us server admins should turn it off? Not a chance in hell that will happen. If you dont like PB play on servers with it disabled. Better yet Get your own damn server and set it up with all the shit you want. But you will never convince admins that like it to turn it off, not gonna happen.

I think maybe they might FIX punkbuster so people don’t get kicked for no reason. But they won’t do shit if you come in here saying there is nothing wrong and that punkbuster is fine.
They still are. They use a PB hack. PB’s only reason to exist is to quell your urge to cry “cheater cheater cheater… i’m gonna play something else”
Punkbuster stops ignorant people with bad attitudes from destroying a community with their constant bitching. It does not stop smart people from writing and using hacks. And right now with the current state of the evenbalance QA department, it also stops people who are not cheating from playing the game… And a lot of these people with problems have never heard of punkbuster or cvar’s. so whats the deal. As IF that’s acceptable to everyone.
That makes no sense. The people defending PB as an anti-cheat would be the ones screaming bloody murder each time they got owned. The people who are bitching about not being able to play ET would be off playing ET.

I’ve never had PB problems either…except maybe with an update at first… but its worth the small headaches now and then and glad theres updates. Maybe you wouldn’t mind PB if you just played and stopped trying to get an edge on other players with the fog removal, see thru trees and leaves, pink walls, etc. crap.
I’d have left RTCW awhile ago if not for PB keeping it from becoming another CS. I can say i probably won’t play a game unless its using PB. Its not perfect …but better than anything i’ve seen in past games.

One thing I have found out in the years of playing–KILL BOTTERS
(if they stupid enough to search for , find, and use a cheat, they most likely have no skills i.e. why they went searchin in first place.)
