Punkbuster and cvar hacking...

Argue all you like, they are well documented and can be read about in depth on forums at other sites, like rtcwonline.com and rtcwfiles.com, and a host of other sites.

heh. I bet if he went over to RTCWonline or RTCWfiles, and posted the same things he has here, he’d get the exact same response. I’ve seen many stubborn idiots over the years, but this guy has to rank in the top 5 at least.

If only the people that create the cheats would be legally responsible for all costs and wages for the game company to reverse the cheat.

Cheating in one form or another will happen eventually in ET.

It’s the people that flame the evidence after that time that are acting questionable.

This is like that “don’t complain” sickness going around, Don’t complain, don’t be clear, no black and white keep it all grey, that way everyone is confused, they don’t know right from wrong and if they don’t complain you can do anything wrong you want without penalty.

It’s why software crashes, people cheat, security sucks, customer support is a joke, taxes are high, crime is out of hand and dictators torture their citizens.

This thread has been such fun to read. hehe

and some good points have been raised along the way too.

I guess I’ll add my take on it all, cos I can

Well, obviously there are cheats, which mean there are cheaters.
The only time I have defiantly seen a cheater was pre PB, I specked a
guy who could move 2x as fast, he used a mauser, he could get instant
headshots by simply hitting zoom, it would auto aim & fire very very
quickly… The guy was saying in the chat “I am not cheating, I’m
hacking the server, so this isn’t cheating” Which I though was a bit
odd, he was convincing himself that hacking the server in some way
meant he wasn’t cheating… I dunno…

Anyway my point is, that since PB was introduced (long time now) I’ve
not seen any player that I could defiantly say was cheating.

I believe PB does a pretty good, and us honest players should be
grateful for that

IMO, people need to think before they shout “cheat” when they get owned
in game, its easier to think “oh he must be cheating” rather than
“dam he’s a good player” or “dam I need to practice more”
I personally “dig deep” when I meet a player with skills better than
mine… I change tactics, and try harder… its good to get owned once
in a while, it makes you reconsider you own playing techniques, and
usually will enable you to become a better player.

Getting a mind set like IRONMAN will only ruin the game for you,
and you might as well never play another on-line multi-player game again,
cos in your mind everyone who is better than you must be cheating.

If you are SURE you have spotted a cheat, make note of the players name,
the time he was playing, take screen shots if they will help
in showing the rational behind your assumptions, and contact
the server admin… if they agree, they can ban them (obviously there
is a problem in ET with banning :() or just leave the server.
Shouting cheat in-game is dumb, it will only cause agro, and ruin the
game for the other players… and I personally think it is very
un-sportsman like (much like actually cheating).

Well, that’s my take on it all

Peace

I’ll remember that when I smell gas in a building, I’ll leave and let everyone else to die unknowingly, don’t want to upset them

But if might be the foul air from a collegues backside? better off telling
someone who can investigate rather than starting a panic don’t you
think ?

(Riftgarde) #147

I only call when I know they are cheating after extensive spectating.

I know if they are cheating or not just as I can smell the difference between mercaptan and someone eating too many beans. :stuck_out_tongue:

(Kendle) #148

Damn, I’m in work for a couple of hours this morning hoping to ease IRONMAN’s paranoia only to find that a) everyone has already exposed all of his lies, and b) the twat himself has buggered off! Oh well…

(Riftgarde) #149

Who said I believed Ironman?

It’s the acting like there is no cheating and it could never be done attitude that bothers me.

(Kendle) #150

Er, not me.

Of course there are cheats (as in people who use tweaks/hacks/aimbots etc. to do something the game doesn’t allow), but not many of them. The reason IRONMAN sees so many “cheats” is because he also includes anyone who’s better than him or has more knowledge and experience than him (which is most people it seems).

Of course there are cheats, only a fool would believe otherwise, but they’re a very rare (and extremely sad) breed.

(SCDS_reyalP) #151

Who here is claiming that there is NO cheating ?

Me saying that I have not witnessed it myself does NOT mean that it doesn’t exist. I know very well that cheats exists. From my experience, they are not a significant fator in the servers I play on.

Idiots like ironman who claim that cheaters are easy to spot and everywhere DO harm the community, because they lend legitimacy to all the noobs who yell ‘cheater’ whenever they run into a skilled player. Well, they would if they weren’t as obviously clueless as he was. :moo:

I remember a funny game: A friend and I were playing RtcW on bk_forestb1, on a server named Tux :). For those who don’t know the map: It’s the big map from single player where you have to be very quiet, and you have to sneak into the axis base. It has been converted to multiplayer, capture the flag style.
The Sten works very well on this map, because the map is big, so the accuracy of the sten helps very much.
We put some funny letters in front of our name, so it looked like we were a clan :). Somehow we managed to always get top scores on this map (I love this map !). On some maps I just rule :).

Then there was this funny guy. He said the two guys from the clan (us) are cheating. His arguments were unbeatable: He said he is a fairly good player, and we have so much more points than he had. Didn’t know what to say …

However, then came a guy named Guido. I soon learned hating him. He played with the venom, and he always hit (that is, with the very inaccurate venom). I first thought he’s cheating, anyway I didn’t start crying cheater cheater. I watched him playing, and I don’t think he was cheating, just aiming very good.
It was fun anyway, he often kicked my ass, but I often got him too. I like if there’s someone who actually is a challenge to play against.

Well, time for a round of good old RtcW …

cheating is for people that can’t play the game. simple as that. cvar tweaking is open to anyone, tho. i use the cvar limits set by the twl to play all my ET games. ANYONE can change their config around. it’s not hard at all, and anyone refusing to do it is entitled to their opinion. but, considering that all major ladders allow it, but impose some limits should be an indication that it’s part of the game, and not cheating.
