I suppose you think that those of us who say that they CAN tell (um… I mean… like everyone except you) automatically assumes the one who killed them is a cheater? By someone shooting a few times in the head from long range ? No. I have NEVER seen someone I thought had an aimbot in RTCW or ET. NEVER. That doesn’t mean that some of them weren’t using aimbots.

I have seen an aimbot which was very obvious in Urban Terror. The person using it could jump into the middle of a crowd, and headshot everyone with the AK (one of the least accurate weapons in that game). Even there, it was not their just their aim which made them obvious, it was their overall behaviour. If you spectated that person, you could see their crosshair snap from head to head, even if their opponent was behind a wall. I have also seen some people in Urt who have ****ing amazing aim, but if you spectate them, you can see that they miss as well, and their movement is more natural. It is still possible that they have some kind of aimbot (one less obvious than the one mentioned above), but it is not possible to tell for sure. The same is true of ET and RTCW.

So I repeat my question to you:

  • do you think that you have ‘caught’ a lot of cheaters ?
  • do you think the top players in the game are all cheaters ?

Post your email address and if you can get large email attachemnts, give me a couple of days to find an RTCW demo or two of mine that so very easily show someone whacking me with autoaim. I’ll be so kind as to tell you what part to look at and who it was that did it, so you will have no mistake in seeing it.

Then you can come back here and say, “Geez. I guess it IS easy to spot an autoaimer. What a moron I am!”

Uh huh. Autoaim is known for being dead-on a medium to far range, poor at close range. I assume you not read the article by ZIOD (the id programmer who created CTF for Quake2) wherein he addressed that point a few years ago? However, autoaim in Quake3 engine games (RTCW, Wolf ET) is better at being accurate at close range than the autoaim used in the older Quake2 engine games. It seems to have evolved a little.

Nonetheless, there are unfortunately quite a few autoaimers in today’s games. Thankfully, not as many (yet) in Wolf ET as in RTCW.

In truth, a skilled player can outperform autoaim bots at most ranges in most games. I played Quake2 CTF for 3 yrs straight on the most popular server in the world, which drew the best players in the world. Autoaim was rampant. Nonetheless, I managed to score as No. 1 or No. 2 on my team every time I played on every map untill I closed the game. I suppose that means I was one of the top 5 or so players in the world at the most (then) popular game in the world for 3 yrs straight (I quit playing it in 01’ because better games were out). And that is with whipping all the autoaim sissies to do it. But I’m not here to brag, just correct you. You need to understand something about autoaim: It is prevailent in games, and it is easy to spot.

Remember, post your email and get a demo. That might help you learn what I suspect you already know.

How about you answer the questions instead.

  • Do you find autoaimers on lots of server ?
  • Do you think all the top players use aimbots ?

You seem to have skipped over these questions the last few times…

If you actually read my post above, you would see that I know some aimbots are easy to spot, and furthermore, that I have NEVER seen one anything like that RTCW or ET.

I don’t claim that you didn’t get hit by an aimbotter, just that in my hundereds of hours of playing RTCW (since test1, against many of the top players in the game), I have not seen one which as clearly distinguishable from a skilled player. That’s why I’d like to know if you think all/most of the top players use aimbots.

No, I don’t think all top players are using autoim. That would be ludicrous, wouldn’t it?

Unfortunately, 1.5 mb will not cut it for getting a demo. All of my demos are between 1.7 and 20 mb. I just looked at them. But I will gladly find one for you and post it on a friends’ site where you can download it. Like I said, give me a few days. I have more to do than sit and watch demos.
