Punk Buster Legacy Files - Including Quake Wars + question

Here the easy fix, from post 20, by Dr. Funkenstein:

Open the console (Press “Ctrl” + “Alt” + " ’ ");

Type pb_security 0;

Press ENTER;

Close the console;

Connect to a game server.

This way you will download the updates you need directly from the game server and it saves you the hassle of finding where you need to save the files etc. Shouldn’t take more then a minute.

blackbart666, have you tried to do the process on post #20? This is the most easy way to fix the problem. Or look again post #1, since a updated it with this info.

Im screwing,… (i.e not happy). Im no wizz on the computer, im more of a plug and play kind of guy. I have tried to follow the instructions, but im getting nowere and tbh just losing faith. If anyone has a " Get these file in the right place FOR DUMMY’s" that would be great (or a simple bullet point process to follow would be perfect). Thank you to the clever person who answers

This is what I did.

Do this in the main menu of the game:

Open the console (Press the keys “Ctrl” + “Alt” + “~” simultaneously);

Type pb_security 0

Press the key ENTER

Close the console

Connect to a game server.

This should allow punkbuster to download the updated punkbuster files from the server you connect to. If this doesn’t work you may with to reinstall punkbuster from the etqw cd to make sure the program hasn’t become broken/corrupted and then repeat the above process.

A small addition to the instructions in the first post. You can verify yourself whether you are downloading the necessary punkbuster update after you changed pb_security to 0.

Change the setting the way it is explained in the first post;
Make sure pb_security is really set to 0 by simply typing pb_security in the console and pressing ENTER, it will show the current setting;
Connect to a server;
Open the console and type pb_plist followed by ENTER.

You will see a list of all the players on the server, look for your own name in the list and check if it says “UPDT” next to your name. Here’s an example of how it should look if you’ve done everything right:

PB client no 20 needed the update because he reinstalled the game, he changed pb_security to 0 and as you can see it says “UPDT” to the left of his name.

after DB ****s me off, i thought about playing some qw with some old mates,

i got this PB error.

its strange, i cant update it…

if i insert the files to the pb folder its still kicking me

its about this c2.114 thing…

on TAW server its another version there i can play…

in the console it also says that it couldnt authenticate to c2114

Did you try in the console:

pb_security 0

This should download the needed pb files from the server.

Seems like copying the pb folder, within the QW installation folder, from someone who has no problems with pb works.

So I can’t update PB at all. I remember looking at this thread a year ago and pestering people that were on servers about getting me on, and none of their graceful advice helped. I’m still looking at this, and trying to connect to Villa. Nada. D:

Pb_security 0 does nothing for me. I still get booted with no resistance.

Could try ending PnkBstrA and PnkBstrB in task manager then rebooting the game or your whole PC.

You sir, have a different problem.

The pb_security 0 setting makes sure you download the latest version of PB from the server you are connected to but that won’t solve your problem. It’s an easy fix for people that just installed or reinstalled the game since it comes with an older version of PB.

You may want to have a look at this post since your problem is probably related to your firewall settings.

Hope to see you on a server soon, this game needs a bit of Superhappycow madness .

(And I can’t believe someone registered that nick on these forums already!)

Ah, I didn’t even have PB A or B installed. Finally got it installed, and managed to run over some guys with huskies for the first time this year. Lost my first game of A22, as well. Ah, tradition.
