Publics view on XP save

Curious if the community likes XP save or hates it

seems like every ET server besides clan matches have this enabled

i for one personality think it ruins the best part of ET… where someone who is just in the server for 2 hours (maxed out classes) has the upper hand to someone who just joined…

i was also a fan of the original 3 map campaigns before the community again got rid of that with mods… vanilla ET for the win (actually for the lose since vanilla servers are impossible to find)

XP accumulation over a short campaign is fine, would rather not have XP accumulated over a day like some servers have done.

(Brinkman) #3

oh i agree, like the original… after 3 maps XP would reset… gives everyone an equal chance

I like both and don’t mind playing either way. XP save is more popular in ET, so I expect many people to enjoy xp save in QW more also. A lot of people are not good enough to get all the goodies by the end of a campaign let alone use them, so they choose to play on XP save servers.

BTW, I didn’t vote because I’m in the middle, I like both.

(jeeves) #5

more bf2 players will be playing than et players.

xp save and global stats are different right?

(SCDS_reyalP) #7

I still don’t understand why people like XP save.

If you save XP for much longer than it takes a normal player to max out their levels, what is that other than penalty against people who have recently joined the server ?

(Got-JuicE) #8

what is xp save and it has nothing to do with your stats right?

(Ifurita) #9

XP save is a feature of some W:ET mods where you can accumulate XP over multiple campaigns – really, for as long as your connected to the server I guess.

My guess is that mod servers won’t be feeding into the global stats tracks, so you could make the argument that XP save will not affect stats. However, if for some reason “they” do allow stats tracking by mod servers, then presumably this would affect stats since you are more lethal and more survivable at higher XP levels.

i wish a xp baseline could be set
eg: !givexpall 1000 (on connection to the server)

about 1000xp the game (or possibly just my gameplay) livens up, you survive longer, run faster, reload quicker
higher xp makes no difference but lower xp does suck and it takes a bit of dieing to rank up and be effective

when you see a firefight do you
a. find the furthest highest corner to hide in and take potshots untill out of ammo
b. stop reach for the binocs and spam the airstrike command and run for cover
c. smile and jump into the middle all guns blasting

i choose c everytime (get them and move before the next spawnwave comes and all the effort is muted)

im a fan of fast gameplay, to spawn at every availiable spawn  makes a good game (spawnrape excluded)
if you have time to stop and think, v33 (move)

You can set starting XP levels in etpro and possibly other et mods. I agree that this is a better way to do things than just having XP save for a long time, because it’s essentially the same effect, without being unfair to those who recently joined.

If everyone has equal XP, surely they have the potentially to be equally effective, whether they have zero or 1000 ? Or are you “more effective” because theres always a population of newcomers who don’t have full XP ?

My experience of servers that start everyone as 4 star general is that they are a lot “spammier”.

(Got-JuicE) #12

I hope the server search engine is specific with game info so you know if the server has stats set or xp save i’m sure it will

(CodE-E) #13

XP Save awards players who just play a lot, not those who are necessarily good. People who like that should go play some freakin’ MMOs. Keep that sh!t out of skill-based FPS games please!

XP over 3 maps (i.e. one campaign) is fine, but giving the guy who’s been playing on a server for 10 hours an advantage over someone who just joins is lame and unsportsmanlike.

(Sauron|EFG) #14

E-penis.

They can save XP forever for all I care, but XP promotions really is a bad idea if you want a fair game.

Not everyone is able to max their rank by the end of campaign (/raise hand). Playing on a server that has xp save for let’s say 48 hours gives you a good chance to experiment with the full potential of your character. Of course, it’s more difficult to max everything out since everyone in the server has already an advantage but, when you finally make it, you can confront everyone else evenly.
This is not true for xpsave on a 3 map campaign, where pro players have reached the general rank by the 2nd map and you’re still a private.

However, what I like the most is the 10-map campaigns with xp reset at the end of it.

(murka) #16

yes i luv 10 map campaign xp-save

(Mordenkainen) #17

There should be an option “it depends”. I enjoy XP save in moderation, for instance, in 6 map campaigns. Anything more than that is excessive in my book, especially those day long or month long (!) xp save servers.

(Brinkman) #18

i reinstalled W:ET after a long hiatus and it saddens me to see EVERY server running some lame ass XP mod or JAYSmod whoever the hell that is…

is there a list or a dedicated clan out there that keeps their server on the standard setup? there’s no way to filter out this garbage… the community has ruined this amazing game

(Lugal Zage Si) #19

Yeah, do it per campaign.

(murka) #20

filter for etpro servers
