Preorder deals and bonuses (updated)

(Maawdawg) #101

It looks real as they show it on a mannequin mold. I saw very similar ones, actually the same but in maroon with tan laces, on a few people on the PAX floor. I have no idea where those people got them since I couldn’t jump out of the line I was in to go ask them, but they actually are a piece of clothing that someone produces.

Wow all the collectors edition stuff is in Australia! Bethsoft feels guilty about us being overcharged?

(Herandar) #103

And so they release editions that cost even more!

(LyndonL) #104

Yeah but a bandana… Awesome!!

(Maawdawg) #105

Amazon has the $10 preorder bonus up again for console copies and the Psycho pack has reappeared there as well.

(Herandar) #106

I’m going to call WalMart and demand my copy on the 10th. Bet they won’t even know the release date moved up for a few days.

(shadowkungfu) #107

Herandar-What’s the word on Walmart? Any success?

I went back and forth with Walmart and they will not be delivering on release day. Here is the last email they sent me on my support queries.

"Thank you for contacting Walmart.com regarding the preorder promise for preorder items on Walmart.com.

I apologize this issue has caused some confusion. Hopefully, I can better explain the process to you.
The preorder promise is promising the item will be shipped on the release date, not received on the release date.
If you preorder an item, the time from the day you place the order to the release date of the item is considered the processing time for the order. This is in comparison to ordering the item after the release date which then subjects the order to a processing time in addition to shipping time.
The preordered item, which has already been processed for shipping, will be shipped on the release date not prior to due to us not having the item in our possession prior to this date.
The time frame given of 5/24-5/26 is the shipping time frame it will take for the item to reach your home from our distribution center.

If we have not fully answered your question or you have additional questions, please reply to this email.

Sincerely,
Walmart.com Customer Care"

They did not reply to my last email, which was less cordial, and provided explanations as to what the definitions of “home”, “delivery”, and “release day” were and also what the words meant when laid out in series in a sentence, and how they were completely failing to provide what they are guaranteeing in their Preorder Promise.

I am forwarding the chain of emails to the BBB as “home delivery on release day” is promised right on the item page but they are not going to be honoring that. It is definitely failure to delivery on promised service, and borderline false advertising.

(keep in mind this was from the 5/17 release date, but it is still 7-9 days for delivery after release, regardless.)

If you have a Walmart preorder I would get on the phone with customer “support” and get word for yourself because in the 3 calls and 5 emails I got they all told me it was going to be the 7-9 day wait after release for delivery. If that is the case for you as well I would put in a BBB report and cancel my preorder.

this thread should be sticky imo

Wal-mart is a necessary evil. I’m really not surprised about that, Dawg.

I wonder if Amazon is going to do release date shipping, or whatever it is called so I can have the game in my mail box on the 10th.

Quite a few of my friends have preordered from Amazon and have been bugging them about release day delivery but as yet they haven’t activated it for Brink. Most people I know went with the two day shipping option with Amazon Prime. From my experience the “regular” free 5-8 day shipping at Amazon runs at about Pony Express speed, which sucks when you are waiting for a game you really want. If they activate release day delivery I will be ordering from them for sure.

I have a gift card to burn at Gamestop so I could use that and just preorder there as well. At this point I am most likely going to just wait and see what the deals are at Target, Walmart, Gamestop, Toys-R-Us, etc on the week of launch since I have brick and mortar stores for them all within a 20 minute drive (at most). That way I can just go for the best deal available on launch day and not worry about preordering at all, and also save the gift card for something else later with a preorder bonus that matters more to me as I really don’t like the Doom pack (or Gamestop) much.

I’ll probably pick up a copy at the 24 hour WalMart late on Monday night, and return my pre-ordered copy to the store. This is precisely why I was disappointed to see the pre-order bonus that I wanted at WalMart.

I’ve never waited more than two days for a free Super Saver Shipping package from Amazon. When I lived in Philly, it was as good as overnight, since their main distribution center is in Delaware.

(kratier) #113

this is why you preorder from inside the store, and pick your copy up from inside the store

all shipping orders get processed and take time to be shipped, this shouldnt be a surprise to you

(St NickelStew) #114

BestBuy sent me an email confirming the new/er release date.
So did WalMart. (Sorry hope you are not disappointed about a release date sooner than you thought when you made the purchase.)

I have heard nothing yet from Amazon. But I have had good luck with them in the past, so I am not particularly worried.

With pre-orders from three different locations (what can I say, pre-order exclusives get me, but I always get one extra anyway for my brother) hopefully at least one of them will arrive on day-of-release.

You would think.

(DouglasDanger) #115

I really want that energy drink can silencer!

That they take time to be shipped isn’t surprising at all and I don’t understand how you would think that is the issue. That a company is promising delivery on release but is going to deliver 7-9 days later is why this IS a surprise to many people.

Amazon quite frequently delivers games on release day and they actually guarantee it on many titles available for preorder. They take shipping time to your door into account and get game stock before release day from their distributor and make sure it is in their customers’ mailboxes the morning it releases. That is why many people use them for preorders. It has been common practice for them for at least the year I have been using them for game purchases, probably more. That is how preorder shipping should work.

Walmart actually promises to deliver on release day on their website but does not actually do it.":Preorder Promise: Guaranteed home delivery on game release date." Also, you cannot preorder in most brick and mortar Walmart locations either so it isn’t an option as you suggest.

Target does not take preorders on most games in store, you have to buy a “preorder card” for $5 and trade that card for a copy that it reserved for you on the first day. They only offer those cards for huge releases.

Gamestop takes preorders in store and offers in store pickup, yes. They also do significant damage to the industry and developers through their used game sales. For that reason I don’t like to use them at all and try to find other viable preorder options which, for Brink, has turned out to be drastically harder than normal.

Not everyone has the same access and availability of preorder locations so other options are nice. In this case one of the other options (walmart) is advertising one thing and not even trying to deliver on their promise. That something like that is allowed IS a surprise, not the fact that companies don’t have a magic teleporter to instantly beam games to my mailbox.

Nice! Was hoping there would be other pre-order pack vids up. Guess we gotta wait.

(IceBrazuca) #119

I highly doubt it, gamestop has been making preorder commericals since forever, the other companies taht offer preorders never have commericals for them. Its a Gamestop thing.

(VVipeout) #120

not a fan of any of the preorder bonuses. I might sell my code on ebay
