Preorder deals and bonuses (updated)

(crazyfoolish) #121
I’ll probably pick up a copy at the 24 hour WalMart late on Monday night, and return my pre-ordered copy to the store. This is precisely why I was disappoined to see the pre-order bonus that I wanted at WalMart.
I’m sorry but, why are you doing this?

Oh how you confuse me

(Seyu) #122
[B]
…Gamestop takes preorders in store and offers in store pickup, yes. They also do significant damage to the industry and developers through their used game sales. For that reason I don’t like to use them at all and try to find other viable preorder options which, for Brink, has turned out to be drastically harder than normal…
What about Wal-mart, hasn’t it been accused of various malpractices and for damaging small businesses?

(Herandar) #123

The reason is because WalMart customer service does not seem to be honoring the release date delivery promise they are promoting. But wait, it gets BETTER!!!

So I checked my email today, and saw a notice from Amazon regarding my pre-order. Saw nothing from WalMart. So I check my Spam folder, and there it is:

I think this maybe another case of the left hand (customer service call center) not knowing what the right hand (pre-order fulfillment) of a large corporation is doing. I think it may actually arrive on the 10th, despite them telling us that it won’t.

(Maawdawg) #124

Walmart is definitely no angel when it comes to business practices, not by a long shot. In relation to only the games industry Gamestop is a far worse offender though due to being a middle man that hurts devs and lowballs their customers at the same time.

This whole thing makes me wish I still had a “Mom & Pop” video game store around somewhere that I could spend my money so I didn’t have to support any of these places. There are none left around here though, but I do have 6 Gamestops within 20 miles of me now. :frowning:

I just checked and Walmart now shows the May 10th date on new orders as well for estimated delivery. That is good news at least. I talked to a lot of people and they were probably reading from printed policies (as customer support is supposed to for major chains). I don’t think it was a misunderstanding, it was a messed up way of handling their policy, which hopefully has been modified. I will probably call to find out later today when I get a chance.

(jfunk) #125

So have there been any good deals to preorder is jumping at one of the D2D 20% off sales the best thing out there?

(BioSnark) #126

Sad to hear gamestop acquired impulse recently :frowning:

(Maawdawg) #127

I put in a call to Walmart and now they are definitely guaranteeing release day delivery and were explaining the process completely different than before. I just put in my preorder through them (finally). If they don’t deliver on release day I will end up going to a brick and mortar Walmart near me to buy one then returning the preordered one whenever it arrives while keeping the other bonuses from that.

Updated the OP to reflect Walmart’s release day delivery again

(shadowkungfu) #128

Maawdawg-What’s the # you called? I’m on their site, can’t seem to locate it. I’d like to confirm your info/make my preorder.

I see the “Preorder Promise” and $.97 cent shipping for game day release, but in the ordering page the delivery dates are still off. Makes me worry

(Shadowcat) #129

Its been said on the Beth forums already, but Amazon is finally allowing release date delivery as well.

For those with amazon prime, release date delivery is free, i just went in and changed mine and it was easy.

For those who already pre-ordered from amazon but don’t have amazon prime, you may want to wait a bit to see if they will upgrade you to it for free.

Edit: Just made another account to see the shipping price, and its only $.99 for non-prime members

(St NickelStew) #130

I do not see “release date delivery” as an option on my Amazon order. Any ideas why? I have only the choice for 1-day delivery, which I have chosen. But I am not an Amazon Prime member.

(Herandar) #131

Just to make sure, are you in the US? Also, if you live in the boonies, are they already know your ZIP code, they might know that they can’t get it to you on time. I attached a screenprint of the 360 Brink page as I see it below.

Release Date Delivery Fine Print:

 1. Applies only to orders placed where the Release-Date Delivery option or another applicable shipping option (as indicated in checkout)is chosen. Does not apply if you choose Standard, Two-Day, One-Day or FREE Super Saver Shipping options during checkout.
 2. Applies only to orders shipped to addresses within the lower 48 United States. Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and international destinations will be delivered after the release date.
 3. Does not apply to PO Boxes or APO/FPO addresses.

I’m just emailed Amazon to see about changing my order over, but the price has gone up since I ordered the game… Will let everyone know what their reply is.

You have to go to the “help” menu at the top of the Walmart site and the contact options menu is there. It is just 1-800-Walmart anyway, then you have to use the phone menus to say you are a customer, want Walmart.com, then want to talk to a live person.

I don’t have Amazon’s release day delivery as an option for me when I check Brink either. It lists it on the page where you have it in the screenshot but it is not in the shipping options, I do not have Prime active either so maybe that is the issue. I will let my friends who have ordered there know so they can check though.

(Herandar) #133

Maawdawg, see the fine print I edited into my previous post… I’ll see what they say in response to my email (I also mildly threatened to take my pre-order to WalMart, so maybe my response will be atypical.)

(Maawdawg) #134

Yeah, but even for my new order it wasn’t showing as an option and I meet the “lower 48” restriction and don’t have a PO Box. It should be in the list for choices but it wasn’t there. Who knows. I just sent a couple messages around for my friends who ordered through them to check as well. Hopefully it is changeable and they don’t soak you the extra $3 the price has gone up to switch it over.

(Maawdawg) #135

OK, got word back from a couple friend who called Amazon and the release date delivery is not available to all zip codes at this point. They both were able to get shipping discounts/credits because they could not get the release date delivery to their locations and “got stuck with” the slower shipping.

(Seyu) #136

So, you’ll only oppose wrongdoing that concerns your interests? Convenient.

(Herandar) #137

Amazing. They cancelled my pre-order. Now I’m pissed.

EDIT: So here is what happened. No, wait, first, I think the Release Date Delivery is borked on this product. I would advise everyone to wait a few days before trying to pre-order this. I re-ordered it while speaking to the customer service rep, and he was baffled as to why it wasn’t showing up on my order. He said it should show up for most parts of all of the continental 48 states, but it is based on the ZIP code linked to your account.

Anyway, so the guy that read my email cancelled my pre-order. Called them right up, and got in touch with their Customer Service center. Told my story semi-intelligbly, and the guy I was talking with said that he’s match my original price ($3 off. Wow, I AM cheap, aren’t I?) if I’d re-order with Release Date Delivery. Went to re-order, and Release Date Delivery was not a available shipping option (see paragraph above.) He tried to figure out why, and decided it would be easier just to give me One Day shipping for free. Took a while, but it’s been resolved.

Sadly, the delivery estimate is still 05/12/2011, but that’s still better than Europe. Also of interest, the call center is in Costa Rica, and the employees do not get any sort of employee discount.

As is criticizing people over the internet with little to no information about them. Yes, I, and the other 99.99% of the world do more about the things that concern them more.

I don’t have many options when it comes to where I want to buy from in the video game market. They are all giant corporations that hurt small business (toysrus, gamestop, amazon, bestbuy, walmart, target). Not a single one is good for local small businesses, and I don’t have any local owned options as Gamestop drove the two local game shops here under already a long time ago. This is a GAME PURCHASE so I am going with the company that doest less damage to the game industry among my viable options, while also looking out for myself, as all customers should do.

Yes, I specifically tailored this purchase for the benefit of my interests, as did EVERYONE who made their purchase. Sometimes you just have to choose the lesser of evils, kind of like voting for politicians.

I suppose all your purchases are from locally owned shops, your food comes from all local farmstands, and it is all done using only local labor and materials though? If that is the case then you have a leg to stand on, otherwise move along and take your preaching attitude and insinuations that what I choose to do with my money is wrong with you.

Winnipeg is I guess a medium sized city (700,000) I think we maybe only have 3 independant game stores and one of them is a music store that handles used but not new games. Little independants can’t say “Sure we’ll order 10,000 copies if you give us a pre-order exclusive” they don’t have the up front credit

Mind you, one of them is really pushing Brink, seems I found my store thanks to this thread

http://www.playntrade.com/default.aspx

not truely independant but a franchise, oh well

(jfunk) #140

To be fair, you brought up choosing a store for righteous reasons first.

But back on topic, I’m not sure if you addressed this before but I wanted to ask why you don’t just buy it online from a digital distributor?
