does anyone know what the port numbers that this games uses? I’m going to need to know it so i can forward the ports in my router. If i don’t find this out then i can’t play. that would make me very unhappy. :???:
Ports
etmaster.idsoftware.com (192.246.40.60) port 27951
pbguidauth.idsoftware.com (192.246.40.62) port 27960
The port used to connect to each server is configured by the server admin. Default is 27960, but a lot of servers uses other ports. If you use Pathfinder or All-Seeing Eye you see the port after the IP address.
You shouldn’t need to open any ports at all if you’re behind a NAT router, unless it’s blocking outgoing connections.
What is your specific problem? Don’t get a server list? Can you connect manually to server by entering “/connect <ip>:<port>” in the console?
You may want to try Pathfinder (server browser). If nothing else it’s easier to start than ET while you’re experimenting with router configurations.
my problem is that i’m not getting a server list, i don’t know about manually connecting to a server because i don’t have any ip addresses to connect to.
Bad router firmware seems to be a common cause of this, you could try up- or downgrading it. Also try the All-Seeing Eye (great third party server browser), it works for some people with this problem.
IPs:
64.246.52.106:27962
66.98.130.98:27965

207.44.206.51:27962
207.44.206.51:27966

64.246.52.106:27963
207.44.246.63:27965
66.98.130.98:27963
64.246.52.106:27960
That’s all the ND80 servers.
(Some of them are passworded though.)
The range needs to start at 29750, not 29760. The master server uses port 29751, that’s why you don’t get a server list.
post reply it didn’t work weasel, plus i tried using ASE and whenever i join a server about two minutes or less of being on it i get disconnected. i’m getting desperate, i need quality et time.
Do you see the reason you got disconnected in the console? Could be PB that’s unable to auto-update, so I would recommend that you run PBWEB.
the wasn’t any reason. all i got was “server disconnected for unknown reason”.
As Sauron|EFG previously stated if you are a client trying to connect to a server port forwarding is not an issue. A basic NAT/Firewall blocks unsolicited inbound requests.
In your case you are making a outbound request and when the data comes back the device will recognize that you previously requested it. So as a client you are barking up the wrong tree with port forwarding.
so what you’re saying is that i shouldn’t need to do port forwarding and that my problem is caused from something else other than my router? and if what i just stated is true what should i do? :???:
Yes…Problems getting a server list is not caused by your router.
Unfortunately my video card crapped so I can’t run ET at the moment but I will throw out a few other suggestions. Some of these may be obvious but it will help narrow it down.
- From the source menu. Ensure it is set on Internet and not local or favorites.
- Select update/refresh list or get new list. I can remember the exact name. Press the ~ key to bring down the console. You should then see some status information such as:
- Contacting master_server (This is not the real name but I can’t remember is off the top of my head) Bottom line is that is will have a people friendly name. This people friendly name should resolve into a machine friendly name (IP address).
- Check to see that it is looking for the master_server, it translates name into ip address, and look at the result of that operation. I.E. Can’t find server, request timeout, unknown host, etc.
- I believe there is a way to add additional servers (machines which keep a listing of active games) to your config. I believe server admins can send heartbeats out to these so you should be able to query them as well. Maybe someone can post some info here.
Post your results when you get a chance.
ok i went in to et and this is what happened:
i checked to make sure evrything was set to internet. it was. then i checked the console to see what information was on it. i wasn’t able to see anything about the master server because too much stuff was listed in the console so anything about the master server must have scrolled up . all that i saw was something like “112 Servers Parsed” all the way down.
Plus i would like to add that i didn’t have a problem like this with ET until after i hooked up my router.
