Port for Linux.

(Setlec) #261

you grandma (…) her! (unless she is a he…) how come new linux config aren’t capable to run this game? why it should be ruled by people? your argument isn’t valid and has no meaning, Did you ever used linux once? if yes but a couple of years ago you should test it again. if no don’t say stupid things when you are a complete ignorant on the matter…

(AnthonyDa) #262

People nowadays are thinking that linux = Ubuntu only. I’m running Ubuntu since 2.5 years now on my laptop and having multiple VM running it since 2years too, so I know how it’s working.

I’m just telling you that new linux users aren’t concerned by BRINK (as client ofc), only a really few of them do.
I don’t see what’s wrong in my previous post, linux percentage usage is still near 1% worldwide, and thoses stats are mostly from web usage statistic, and a lot of configuration running linux are only here for a web browsing usage, not PC gaming of “big” game like BRINK.

(Setlec) #263

well sorry but big games aren’t only “THE” games that i would like to have on my linux box i do play ETQW and others native ones… I even play winshit games with wine sometimes. Linux can run games pretty fine actually but there is two major problem:
*first is graphics drivers (ati still has very poor support with linux but it’s getting better)
*second no open standard being respected by the Distributions… specially Unbuntu (being one of biggest bullshit ever made, imo)

(AnthonyDa) #264

And ? I’ll be the first pleased to see BRINK having linux support but saying that “The Linux community is expanding raptly” is just a lie.

(Setlec) #265

well linux community has grown in the last couple of years but not as much i would like to. Honestly i even didn’t came up with such argument in my previous posts. why bring that now? that doesn’t make sense…

(Susefreak) #266

What are you trying to prove here? That there are computers which run Linux, that are capable of running Brink. No shit sherlock, but the biggest growth of the Linux market has been in netbooks, smartbooks and mid’s, which the last time I checked have limited 3d capabilities.

The problem with Linux is that there is no consolidation between distro’s. (Well a bit, Debian based systems have a certain overlap, the same goes for rpm based systems and Slackware like system) That makes if more difficult to create games for Linux, compared to Win (and even OSX for that matter). Not even to mention the driver issues of the GPU’s.

As AnthonyDA already pointed out, most people see Ubuntu as the standard, and why not, it’s the biggest distro out there, with it different flavours (check distrowatch if you don’t believe me). The majority of the people who test Linux out on their desktop computers that are capable of running recent games, take Ubuntu as their playing field.

What really annoys me is that everyone in the Linux communities want Linux to succeed, but a majority of them start whining that it’s Ubuntu that is gaining ground. Sure there are some design decisions that I doubt myself in the Ubuntu project, yet they are making the effort and they are also doing it and doing it right, which I can’t say for various other distro’s.The elitism of other distro users makes me rethink I myself want to be a Linux user, maybe I should switch to *BSD or Solaris.

(PuP) #267

i’m not going to make a plea rationalizing the economic viability of a port to linux.

i played ET for 3 years, now ETQW for 2 or so… both on linux. i’d really like to play your new game, it looks swell. it looks like you guys are starting to understand that this platform is the new action movie. most don’t.

please port this game to Linux because I’d have to buy a copy of windows just to do this, and i really don’t want to give that company any more money.

(reaply) #268

I don’t like linux it makes me lag.

(Paul) #269

If at least the dedicated servers run on linux

(AnthonyDa) #270

:stroggbanana::stroggbanana: BRINK on linux ? That will NEVER HAPPENS :stroggbanana: :stroggbanana:

(tp) #271

Brink on Linux ?

(brbrbr) #272

no, i heard ZM have plans 4 this platform.
4 [undefined how]distant future.

(kamikazee) #273
I don’t like linux it makes me lag.
Sorry, you have only yourself to blame if you didn’t install anti-lag support.

Also, which Linux and when?

(timestart) #274

Obvious troll is obvious.

Also, I guess steam requirement means no linux client. Time to lock this thread?

(Susefreak) #275
no, i heard ZM have plans 4 this platform.

Real life gotta suck for you, since it doesn’t support brackets.

Any source about these plans?

(Nail) #276

sure it does, they’re just called sidebars

(darthmob) #277
Also, I guess steam requirement means no linux client. Time to lock this thread?
Have a look at what tp posted. I wouldn’t get my hopes up, though.

(Voxie) #278

That is far from definitive proof. If anything, it probably refers to running dedicated servers on Linux. I’d love to be proven wrong, but at this point in time I remain skeptical.
