Port for Linux.

(brbrbr) #241

macs have terrific sandwitches over U-X, just to keep “legacy” mac stuff barely working.
@brbrbr:
I don’t know which language is your mother tongue, but I’ve got to read your posts at least 5 times before I can understand some of it.
its okay.
using brain is helpful.
enjoy !
You say Apple sucks? Why? In my opinion Apple builds the best systems and has the best operating system. Mac OS X is way better than Windows and it’s also better than Linux. It’s fast, stable and works very intuitive.
sure, i mean this[but not say].
thats just you opinion. other peoples[such as me and any other]can have different ones and less polarized, usually.
and no, Apple Mac"OS" is not best, but BSD, which Jobs team use to build this monstrocity is not bad, not bad at all.
way better ?
which way ?
left ? right ?
usability ? stability ? performance ? develioper-friendiness ? software library ? price/fests/bangs ratio ? relibility ? availiability ?
as long i can see, all enumerated things[and maybe some others] are fail/fail for “Mac”-branded PC’s.
better than Linux ? you gotta be kidding !!
even whien compare with Windows - not better.
I’ve got a MacBook Pro, obviously it’s running Mac OS X and that’s the only operating system I’ll run on my Mac. I absolutely don’t feel the need to run Windows or Linux on a Mac. I run Linux on non-Apple systems and I don’t use Windows at all.
i see you really enjoy you Apple stuff and i like it.
so i wish you luck. really.
but as long as i have choice, i pick something else. than Apple “products”
both design/ideology or usage/creating/producing and step-by-step insights[from almost any angle] make feel weird, alienated and quite … unacceptable.
sure, you don’t need this.
but at least here, in Russia, most former Mac users, reject it, and reinstal other OS’es over Apple hardware.
you can aske then online, if you find one, i guess.

Valve seems wanting to port Steam and their games for Mac OS X. Brink should make the same! And as everyone knows, Mac OS X is Unix-based, like Linux… EASY PORT FOR LINUX FOR AN OPENGL-BASED GAME! PLEASE!

back in G4 days, macs were great for things like ProTools, now imo, it’s irrelevant, PCs do it better and cheaper

(light_sh4v0r) #244

Protools runs in windows just fine

(Nail) #245

yes, now it does, didn’t before, not talking about LE. I run a HD system,
Windows version was introduced in 2002 iirc

(light_sh4v0r) #246

I had never heard of Protools in 2002, so don’t blame me

(Xalos) #247

+1 for native GNU/Linux client !
Have enough to use Windows just for playing games :(. I hate dual boot and play windows games with Wine !

Just want to use only GNU/Linux !!!

So please make it

I use Fedora 12 (X86_64).

(otakustar) #248

don’t forget to rate this thread, guys

(Xalos) #249

sorry ! It’s done now

(Setlec) #250

+1 for linux version. Or i really won’t buy this game…

(asmo) #251

does Splash Damage have any news regarding Linux Port ? Will it be released ? what are percentage chances for this if you can’t give clear ‘yes’ or ‘no’ ?
Last time i asked year ago ( in 2009  ) so i think it’s good time to ask again.

Thanks upfront!

(BlueRed) #252

I also wanna see a linux version of the game Client and DedicatedServer !!

b.t.w. i wished i had a Protools system but Cubase 5 does it for me right now

(brbrbr) #253

Today i bypass this thread and mistakenly read title as “Porn for Linux”.
And my fellow friend, doctor Freud, agree with my suspicions, about thats as good sign!

(murka) #254

That will surely happen as most servers are linux anyway.

I don’t see the relevance of this.
I have a cubase 5 system too in case you want to know:tongue:

(Nail) #256

he’s referencing our earlier posts about Macs and ProTools
does Splash Damage have any news regarding Linux Port ? Will it be released ? what are percentage chances for this if you can’t give clear ‘yes’ or ‘no’ ?
A quick look in the 8 ball revealed “Don’t count on it”.

I think this is the clearest answer you can get.

Just like wolf, right ?

Why port BRINK to linux?
Simple,
There aren’t many commercial quality games on this platform, (Witch is a shame)
Linux is extremely capable for running games, (in my experience faster than winxp)
The Linux community is expanding raptly (Damn those simpleminds who just don’t know that there is more than microschoft)
Rumors are spreading about a Google OS based on linux. (This might become a new standard similar to the Ubuntu distro’s)
By pioneering in the linux gaming community game developers can expect linux users to return to their products in the future.

It is because Splash Damage is already familiar with linux (Enemy Territory (Quake Wars)) that I got to know them as a game developer. (I’m a big fan of ID ever since I played Commander Keen when I was young) <(Commander Keen> Doom> Quake> Enemy Territory)
I have been using linux (Kubuntu) for a wile now, and I had to adapt to using it, however if you ask me what OS I would prefer I would have to say Kubuntu, since I love customizing. (" Why I want to play Bring ")
So please Splash Damage make a linux installer for BRINK.

Linux community isn’t growing fast, and new configurations using linux aren’t capable to run BRINK or aren’t ruled by people playing game. (ex: my grandma on his EEE pc is running linux but don’t care about BRINK).
