All war are pointless. If the Jedi and the Sith just sat down and talked about their problems they would realize they aren’t all that different.

Except for the grotesque horns coming out of their heads. Congenital defects maybe?
Mice were made for quick precision movements, analogue sticks were not.

As a console player i cannot agree more with this statement, BUT

Keyboards were meant for typing and are completely the opposite.

The hybrid, left controller/mouse (splitfish) sounds in theory to fulfill both formats desires.
In practise, i havent found it any improvement. The need for a flat surface for the mouse still restricts the position of the user.
I’ll take the lower accuracy for comfort of use.

If i had the option(like brink promises) to custom map controls to pad EASILY, i’m sure i would have played much more PC format.

(SockDog) #65

Keyboards do give access to a lot of keys though which is another limitation of controllers in some games. I’m all for using the best method for each genre and/or situation which is clearly what the poster I replied to has absolutely no clue about.

(DarkangelUK) #66

Agreed, with a keyboard you can have all 5 fingers engaged and ready for 5 separate actions on your left hand (or right, of course), with a controller you’ve got your thumb and index finger… middle finger depending on the bumper/trigger actions. Those 5 fingers also have ease of access to surrounding keys as well, your options are increased substantially.

Though I reckon the original **** stirrer knows this and was just trolling

(SockDog) #67

Yeah, I guess my point is that you pick the right tool for the job not defend your only tool (because you’re a tool).
whoa whoa whoa guys lets hold up the hate for one second for this ground breaking announcement

ps3 now has 16 people, which means… we can now fill a game.

congrats to everyone involved and feel free to give yourself a nice pat on the back

now you may resume your mindless bickering
heh heh heh

I understand the advantages to it. Frankly I’m just not good at. I don’t have the coordination for it and I’m too old and too used to console gaming to re-learn it. That said, I don’t understand the people that fumble with console controllers. The ergonomics of them alone should make it much easier to become accustomed to them- even if you’re a PC player- than the reverse.

(SockDog) #69

Mainly the accellerated turning/aiming I find is slow and cumbersome. And while there are a lot of buttons just under a thumb or finger it’s a lot harder pressing them all at once. The fact console FPS games simplify controls (Duke’s 2 weapon slots) and alter gameplay (aim assist, regen health) has to show that for that genre a controller is far from the ideal method to play.

(amazinglarry) #70

I love the perceived “console” hate that’s here. It really isn’t. I haven’t seen any bashing either way, but I’ve definitely seen a lot of “quick to defend my preference!”. It amuses me.

That said, PC all the way, Consoles are for clowns.

Messin around, of course. I’ll definitely be getting PC but after playing Brink last week, I’m kind of interested in getting maybe a 360 and trying to learn on console. I just feel like the action won’t be as quick on a console, due to it being less twitchy. I may be completely wrong, though.

We’ll see… but as it stands, Brink is the excuse I’ve been looking for to build a new PC. I fully realize and accept that it’ll likely run perfectly fine on my 2 year old machine, but I need to justify spending money.

(amazinglarry) #71

It’s difficult for me with a controller, because my brain isn’t properly wired to use dual analog sticks. I don’t know what it is, I just can’t wrap my head around it, and it’s frustrating. It’s definitely something that takes getting used to. Just because you’re good with it, doesn’t mean it’s just an easy thing that everyone should be able to pick up instantly.

The only FPS I was good at on a console was Goldeneye… nostalgic sigh

(Otto) #72

If Consoles had full support for mice and keyboards their would still be a conflict between pc and consoles.
For me, as much as I hate using console controllers for FPS, it’s not the root of my and many others hate.

PC suffers from console syndrome. Symptoms include:
Cross Platform Support Compliance- It is rare that a console port of a PC game is made poorly, when reversed, PC ports of a console game are by majority horrible. Many let downs and money wasted.
Console Graphic Submission- PC users are slaves to cheap old console hardware. As many are well aware, graphical intensity has been at a cap for a long time in order to keep games as cross platform compatible as possible.
Wasted development resources-Similar to the lats syndrome, if a big budge game didn’t have to divide it’s developers time and attention, It could be made that much better.
Online Population Distribution- This is a two edge sword, on the up side it can help separate keep certain types of players that would clash if forced to play on only one platform. On the down side it thins out server population, taking less mainstream games much longer to fill a match. A full server is a happy one.

I’m sure I’m not the only PC user who sees this and harbors some resentment toward console supporters.

(Jess Alon) #73

Xbox 360. I already have it so it’s the most affordable solution for me.

(kiunk) #74
Yeah, I guess my point is that you pick the right tool for the job

Agreed,

Use whichever device suits your needs.
It always seems forums like to differentiate betwen the options. mine is better than yours kinda thing.
I personally have engineers hands which arent as comfortable using kb, and am a far worse player using them.
Even with the ‘Best’ tools available i’ll choose the ‘inferior’ pad every time, because i simply cannot play for 6hours straight with k/b, without looking like the taxi driver from TOTAL RECALL by the end.

(Thalric) #75

I will be going with the Computerversion of Brink. Im just better at FPS with Keyboard and Mouse than with a controller.

(brbrbr) #76

PC FTW !!
Horay glorious PC gamers !!
Rise and shine !
its time to destroy ALL Evil “consoles” and kill all their owners ! With fire !! Mwhahahahaha !![random Evil laugh]
Platform wars are pointless…

dont cry !

(lightess) #77

Obviously ps3 (I’m a Sony fan), and my computer can’t running the game, also I’m not too good with the mouse, so it’s easy for me to choose.

(Thirteen) #78

360

My FPS platform.

(Jak-son) #79

Now I play on PC a lot. Although, I’m gunna play it on my ps3.

There are 2 reasons for this-

 1. It’s only been shown on the ps3, I would think that the controls were kind of based around it.

 2. My PC is as good as I can get it financially. Despite this, I can barely get team fortress 2 to work correctly (Random crashes -_-) and most other games don’t work at all. I used to be a big PC gamer. But, then I found out how hard it really is to be one.

So yeah, I’m getting it on the ps3. so…CAN I JOIN THE PS3 GAME?

(DarkangelUK) #80

Most footage has actually been PC with xbox pad and button prompts. I believe GDC 2011 was the 1st major PS3 footage.
