What tries my patience is people who sign up to a forum, type up what they want to say without ever checking to see if its being discussed elsewhere. There are numerous threads here dedicated to persistant ranking and the argument has been won and laid to rest. Anyone who checks first would realise that it has been discussed, would have read the arguments for and against and if they still feel they have something to input they can reply to that thread constructively.
PLEASE INCLUDE STATS AND RAKINGS in Quake Wars!
I liked ur imitation of EA suport, huahauhauhuhuahhua
U just forget of how the PC will be better without the starFUCK U, that cames with the game.
Doesn’t seem like it’s laid to rest if you read people’s replies in this thread.
everyone exept ghaib has said basically the same thing in response to it and there hasn’t been a topic on it in a moth. Thats what I call laid to rest.
I think people shouldn’t be allowed to post until they have 20 posts… :nag:
yeh no unlockables
and why not have an option of putting yourself on rankings while you are installing the game like punkbuster or gamespy
Can there please be a jump counter ? I want a water marked jump counter that tells me how many times I have EVER jumped. PLEASE ?! lol…j/k
I would love that.
But then again I’m a stat junkie.
(/wants to know how many miles his mouse has moved, and how many clicks he has done)
please dont do a BF2 as the Team play goes out of the window as they are looking out for themselves for grabbing as many points as possible, if that means naffing off with a vehicle and leaving a squad behind just so they can get a few points they will…

Couldn’t you have stats for doing team play based things aswell??
^^^^ Its easy to award points for individual progress such as kills etc. Awarding points for defending an engineer trying to build a bridge is a tad more complicated.
If something like battlesense is possible, is there no way to reward squad play based on sticking close to each other?
It’s an incredibly naive way of defining teamplay. First of all, places “close” to each other can actually require lots of time to travel. You’d have to take walls into account.
I don’t see how being far from each other makes teamplay impossible. If I warn Axis that some Allies are approaching via oasis tunnel, is that not an example of teamwork ? If I play as Covert Op and spot targets for mortar, we’re far away, too. Besides, there are often situations where you want to spread and attack via all possible routes. On Gold Rush before tank is stolen, it’s pretty hard to attack via only 1 entrance, because it can easily be spammed with artillery, camped with MG42, or just with rambomedics. However, using all 3 routes to attack makes defence much harder.
What about that Covert Op hiding in Fuel Dump and waiting for an engy to come ? He’s not near any teammate, he could gain some xp by blowing up fence prematurely or kill 1-2 people before he’s discovered and killed.
Measuring teamplay is nowhere as simple. But medics should be rewarded even for simply staying close to teammates, that’s what they’re supposed to be for. But because of ammo cabinets, xp rewards and Mega Ammo Packs typical medic is actually the most self-sufficient and antisocial of all classes.
I didn’t say it’s THE definition of teamplay and should be the primary factor.
But it might be a start.
You’d find yourself expanding and tweaking it over and over, because there are so many things to take into account. And then there’s the risk of players finding a way to exploit it and xp whoring.
You either have to implement it perfectly, or drop the idea of statistics. I bet you often see engineers repairing tank instead of planting dynamite at tank barrier. Because tank is instant xp, and barrier is more risky - you have to run forward, the dynamite can be disarmed, you need full energy bar to start… This means stats would have to work differently for each map. At the moment only Engineer xp is very map dependant, only rifle grenades are guarranteed to get eng exp.
There’s a lot of team specific rewards that could be easily implemented, like the example Dazzamac pointed out, defending an engineer while he build a bridge. For example by being close to the engineer, killing an enemy that fired against that engineer, killing enemies while being close to the engineer etc. All these would be very easy to implement. The problem is, it’s not covering every situation, and would be hard/impossible to cover every situation in the code. That leads to two things: 1) People get annoyed when they don’t get a reward for covering that engineer while doing something smart that doesn’t give a bonus and 2) People obsessed with points will only do stuff that actually gives them point instead of what is best for the team at that moment.
Number 2 is always a problem as soon as you gain points in a game but would probably get bigger in a case like this.
The more complex you make your reward system, the more likely someone will find an un-intended way to exploit it.
Wow guys, why dont you have some servers have un-ranked and others have ranked? every body wins! every body wins! every body wins!
