Play.com (United Kingdom Reseller)

(GK-Duck) #61

I wish I’d read this thread before placing my order today with Play.com :frowning:
Does anyone know if any othe UK retailers are doing any better with the pre-orders?

(BondyBoy007) #62

ring em up, give em hell, ask them to piont them browsers in this direction. . . .

if I have time at work tomorrow thats what I may do :x

(BondyBoy007) #63

had a response from Activision:-

Date 11 April 2007

Further to your correspondence of 11 April 2007

The pre-order packages have now been passed on to the retailers. There was some initial confusion as I do not think the pre-order packages were originally passed on but they now have been, so it is the retailer you need to contact to get a hold of the pre-order material.

It may simply be that the person you spoke to on the phone had not been informed of this yet. So when you contact them again, you may wish for them to escalate the issue to their team lead management for confirmation.

.

I’m going to ring Play again later methinks

Thanks BondyBoy007. I look forward to reading what Play.com have to say for themselves today

Let us know who you spoke to either way, so we can concentrate calls on them, or ask NOT to speak to them

from http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=16503:

Maybe play is not far off!

(BondyBoy007) #66

Susan at Play, after checking for 5 mins with her supervisor, informed me that they are not aware of any special offer in relation to this game and that they have not had any codes or pack.

She has suggested I email their marketing department with the webby that the offer was listed on, I may have to cancel cos this is useless

(BondyBoy007) #67

Emailed Play with this:-

I have contacted your helpdesk three times over the past two weeks with regard to a special “pre-order” pack promotion that Activision lauched on 2nd April (see links) The 1st contact informed me that the packs will be sent out next week, the 2 subsequent contacts have informed me that they are not aware of any such pack and I’ll probably receive the pack when the game is released!

Susan on the Helpdesk suggested I email the address of this offer, informing you of the partnership your company is supposed to be in with Activision on this.

ET:QW official site: http://www.enemyterritory.com/main.html

From here if you select “Buy it Now” and choose UK as your country you are given a choice of “promotion partners” one being for Play.com

After the 2nd unsucessful helpdesk contact I also emailed Activision, I attach their response below. From this response it is apparent that the problem is with Play.

You may also want to check out the developers official website where there are several users in the same situation as myself and also where Play is not getting very good PR at the moment: http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=16376&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 (Play.com (United Kingdom Reseller))

Could you please confirm what is going on with this offer, and maybe an offical response from yourselves on SplashDamage forum as it’s not looking good for Play.

Thanks in advance

email address she gave does not work, on phone again with someone in the referrals department and giving them the official webby.

Play.com have just updated their info on this. This is after I cancelled my pre order with them last night to Game

PRE-ORDER NOW to reserve your copy of the game AND receive a unique key code allowing you to reserve your Enemy Territory QUAKE Wars user name straight away (key codes and URL link sent electronically upon receipt of your-order). Note: this offer applies to pre-orders of BOTH the standard game AND the Limited Collector’s Edition game.

(yibble) #73

Ok. I just spoke to Paul at Play.com. Apparently they all received an e-mail about our calls  Consumer Power! The e-mail was dated on the 2nd of April, and explains that all pre-order codes are scheduled to be sent THIS week. So, they have about three more hours of standard business time to honour that.

So… I guess I should seriously consider cancelling my order with Play.com, and ordering through Game.co.uk.

(yibble) #74

Update: Based on Lonewolf’s post. I called Play.com again, and spoke to Helen. It seems she’s ‘allegedly’ having one of her colleagues generate/obtain a registration code for me, which I should receive, today, tomorrow, or on Monday… At least sometime in the future, but not now.

So, I’m now in the process of submitting a complaint to the Advertising Standard Authority (asa.org.uk), as well as submitting a form from Play.com’s product page regarding their false advertising.

(Spuddy) #75

Oooh, alittle more progress…

(BondyBoy007) #76

still no code here, I’ve contacted them 4 times over the last two weeks! it seems as though they may finally have a clue

(yibble) #77

Yeah, I think I’ll give them till Monday before I forgo the £5 saving and hop-ship to Game.co.uk.

BTW, here’s the direct link to the ASA online complaint form: http://www.asa.org.uk/asa/how_to_complain/complaints_form/

(Basic) #78

things have changed GAME has just brought there price down. Same as play now

(yibble) #79

They’ve probably been reading this thread  Play.com should be taking a leaf out of their book.
