Sadly that means nothing Punkbuster bans take 2 seconds to get around. IP bans are the same, for most users.
In RTCW, someone who cheated a lot would have found themself with less and less servers to play on each time their newest cheat got detected. Pretty soon, they would have to buy a new cd. In ET, they just get a new GUID, a new IP and they are back.[/quote]
Yes, they can get a new GUID for ET in seconds, but if they’re kicked by PunkBuster for using a hack, they’re gonna get kicked again next time they use it, new GUID or not. They’ve not only got to get a new GUID (easy) but they’ve also got to get a new hack (maybe not so easy).
Obviously, if they’ve been GUID banned by a server Admin (based on spec’ing, demos, PB ss etc.) that’s a different story, but don’t lose sight of the fact that once PB can detect a hack it’s pretty much worthless from that point on. Which is why when people like MadMatt find one they should send it to PB.
I don’t know about there being more new cheats for ET in the last month than for RTCW in 2 years, but there sure as hell have been more threads about cheats in the last month than for RTCW in 2 years. ET is going to crumble under the weight of cheating if the community at large comes to believe there are cheaters everywhere. Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the accepted truth.
