Overwatch and the future of Dirty Bomb
Was this a random comment or do you know me and know I’m in Pals?
Looks like you got yourself a stalker : V
I’m going to add another thing that irks me off from Overwatch. It feels and looks like TF2 in a semi-futuristic design. I left TF2 when it became so saturated with… junk. Dirty Bomb feels more consistent in its design, something I’m not sure I can consider Overwatch appear as either.
By that definition there is no way to define hardcore status of the game since whole idea lacks unified concept and relies solely on subjective perception of each player.
In other word, talking about hardcore games or gaming, and/or applying this definition to DB, will have only one possible outcome - rage.
Basically, referring to DB as hardcore game is essentially an intentional attempt to stir trouble, with no possible positive outcome.
In my eyes, if a game is hard to master, and has a very specific skill floor, it’s def a hardcore game.
TF2 never really felt that way, neither does Overwatch it seems.
CS GO sorta fits the bill, but as you get higher up, you may realize it just doesn’t fit your taste.
Kinda like with the various fighting games that are out there, that are competitive and how a strong competitive focus, but each one appeals to a different subset of players who are looking for the ideal experience.
For me, yea, Dirty Bomb is way more ideal, because I don’t feel like I’m playing a chess simulator.
Are you serious? Like, serious? I think I’ve lost grey matter from aneurysms playing Hearthstone. RNG can mess you up so badly sometimes it’s not even funny. I mean yeah overall it isn’t enough to cost you overall wins but in those individual games, holy fucking shit make it stop.
yup; hearthstone is the definition of a game thats fun when you win; and terribly frustrating when you lose.
Nice profile pic.
Green army? Or am I mistaken.
Wow, this got heaps of attention. I’ll be reading this for ages. Great discussion guys, keep it up.
Yeah I just played a game of arena at 4 wins where the enemy mage fire balled my big creatures 4 turns in a row then flame striked my board dump then played gazlow and mirror image + arcane missles, then played foe reaper 9000, then played mech bear cat from gazlow.
I’m not even mad, I have transcended.
EDIT: Come to think of it the foe reaper probably came out of gazlow too.

Wut?
I’ve been enjoying DB a lot but I’ll admit that once Overwatch comes out I intend to play that more. I wouldn’t call it a full switch for me though, they’re different games and I’ll still play DB because it’s fun. I figure a lot of people will feel the same, I know a lot of folks over on the Overwatch subreddit enjoy DB.
Can’t speak for folks who want to master individual games or whatever, but I know me and some others will just have the standpoint of “Yeah, some nights are Dirty Bomb nights.”
I don’t think Overwatch will obliterate the Dirty Bomb playerbase any more than I thought Haze would be the Halo killer.
so far OW looks too… I don’t know how to say it… over the top? In it’s art/style direction. Like they got their kids to design “cool” characters?
I don’t think I’ll play
Mhm, probably yes, probably no. But if you didn’t like WoW after Cataclysm, you’re probably right imo.
Simply more op-discussions giving more “right’s”-s to-the-masses.
Dirty Bomb is a very good game. It’s challenging. Although in its current state, if Overwatch was to come out today there’s no way I would be staying with Dirty Bomb.
Blizzard is a MAJOR company. I’ve played a few of their games and enjoyed every single one of them. Some aren’t my style but I still hear very good reviews about them. Dirty Bomb’s devs lately have made questionable changes and I’ve heard that since the game was in closed alpha… nothing’s really changed until now. The Anti-cheat is a comedy in itself and is one of the reasons why the playerbase is taking a massive hit.
This is just my own opinion… but the way I see things going as of now, Splash Damage is just coming out with new mercenaries for quick cash grabs as they see their game crumbling down and the approach of Overwatch. Also trying to please the noobs because they’re probably the majority of their playerbase ( Phantom nerf ). We know the Anti-Cheat is coming soon but we have no ETA on that or any other information. So we’re being kept in the dark and it’s awful.
The game has, or should I say had… Alot of potential. If they keep going the way they’re going right now the game is as good as dead. Now Overwatch will be Blizzard’s first FPS game. So it will be interesting to see what happens with that. Is Overwatch the Dirty Bomb killer? I don’t think so. Honestly, I think Dirty Bomb will die before Overwatch even hits closed beta.
They really aren’t similar games. Odds are, there’ll be a drop in DB players, but not a significant one, as many people play both games or stick to DB.
Overwatch looks much more like a MOBA, to the point where the gunplay seems like a casual afterthought. Engagement strategy is one of the key things to any FPS that requires any skill (read: not CoD). In DB you know not to engage a Rhino head-on. In PS2 you know not to engage a Heavy Assault head-on. In Overwatch, how am I meant to know if that Soldier 76 is basic and easy to kill, or has Torbjorn’s armour and Symmetra’s shield, and would be much more difficult to kill? Not to mention other abilities that are just direct buffs. Lucio’s music, Mercy’s staff, Zarya’s shield.
And then there are a variety of other features making Overwatch utterly repulsive to me and many others. A tiny FOV, marginally increased from before but with no confirmation of a slider. Ridiculous quantities of visual and aural clutter, including the worst muzzle flash I’ve ever seen. Higher realistic TTKs than TF2 because your enemies can use their jetpack, or grappling hook, or blink/recall, etc. to just run away constantly.
Hopefully people who have had the good sense to play Dirty Bomb will also be able to realize Blizzard games are hot garbage made for dumb noobs who have no idea what they’re playing and will throw money at anything.
The only game from Blizzard that I actually liked were the Warcraft series, with Frozen Throne being the last one. I’m not saying their games are bad but everything they do recently is casual as fuck, most of their games you can get a trained monkey to play them and it’ll be fine. I swear.
In blizzard games, when you throw money into them, you will get satisfaction.
In DB, I bought cases. I got shit cards and traded them up for more shit cards. Then with those shit cards I finally traded them up to the final card stage that just happened to be… You guessed it… More shit cards. Now they’re just laying there being a useless pile of shit.
Then I took 10$ and spent it on a mercenary. The only thing I thought I would have some sort of satisfaction out of. I bought Phantom. We all know how that turned out.
Satisfaction = Null.

I dunno, I think I’ve spent $300 on cases in Hearthstone and still lack many crucial cards.
I’m kinda interested in checking out Overwatch though I probably wouldn’t quit DB.
While both are shooters, OW is very cartoon-ish which I’m sure will drive some people away from it…plus I worry it will be a cash grab like all the recent branch out game Blizzard has put out.
