Once again console owners don't get dedicated servers!

^Yay! I’m in the peach slice. I’m so 1337!

Wow, where did you get that pie chart?

I find it funny how the whole industry always scales to ‘average joes’… that will not bring any progress, imo.
Or do people lack curiosity, how things that they use everyday work…
Then how is it good enough for them to have TDM and DM and not Brink?
I don’t use consoles or support TDM on Brink but saying that the most popular games not having a particular feature is a justification in itself, is wrong.
No it’s not.

No one rivals S2Games when it comes to hosting/organizing/maintaining dedicated servers around the world.
And they don’t take crap from ISP’s, if the quality isn’t to expectations they move their business else where.
It gives you the best of both worlds, you can do matchmaking or you can create your own pub game, no having to worry about renting a sever, port forwarding or about the other player having a crappy connection.
It’s a near perfect system.

I’m surprised at all the hate towards console players. It’s not as if it is impossible to have dedicated servers and Brink wants to change the genre or something. I think we have a reason to be displeased with this news. The only two FPS’s I have are Killzone 2 and Bad Company 2. Killzone 2 has dedicated servers and 0 lag. Bad Company 2 has dedicated servers but they were horrible during the first few months. So just because we’re not getting dedicated servers doesn’t mean we’ll have super lag forever. At least Battlefield 3 will have dedicated servers. I just hope DICE has learned from Bad Company 2.

If u play on console, you must be a sad, sad man. Either that or you’re 12.

I’m sure someone in this thread has already explained that the P2P connections choose the host by who has the best broadband connection, so I’m just going to reiterate it, and then not read the rest of the thread.

you see, since most gamers play on consoles, and people tend to like to play with their friends, in the comfort of their living rooms on their non-eye-tiring TV, it makes more sense for (apparently) most people to go the console route. That and the fact that when you finally leave your parent’s house and either rent or own your own (especially if you own) , you don’t frequently have 2 grand of disposable income to blow on a gaming system when there are so many more important things, like, you know, clothes and food for your children.

If you want dedicated servers than get a PC, if not then stop crying because you should expect the console versions of games to not have dedicated servers by now.

Are you implying that my executive computer chair with a head rest and my 23 inch led monitor are less comfortable?

But, I agree that everyone chooses what suites them best

My resume isn’t lying when I list my software skills.

10 open pools that he himself is 12.

(Crytiqal) #73

lol? based on what? ETQW?

(Seyu) #74

Sarcasm. It’s about how we used to take dedicated servers for granted, five-six years ago, and now they have become a feature in games, worth bragging about.

(gridlock) #75

Where did u pulled out that quote from Google search query circa 2000 ?

(Diablo85) #76

Hehe indeed. That stopped being true years ago. In NL there isn’t any DSL that can match my 120mbit cable.

(BlackSwaggerX) #77

A game that has dedicated servers or not doesn’t really mater to me. If the game is P2P, all I ask for is for the game to at least have Host Migration THAT DOESN’T FAIL most of the time.

(tokamak) #78

I also heard console gamers won’t be getting a developer kit.

(Green) #79

I was excited for this game, but the lack of dedicated servers is a deal breaker for me. I have an excellent internet connection, but that doesn’t always matter. I quit playing COD because of this, long story short, when Black Ops first came out I destroyed people, then after the first title update, I couldn’t kill hardly anyone. I would empty clips into people, and they wouldn’t die, and I would sometimes be a full second behind the players on the kill cam. It went from occasionally getting a laggy game, to only occasionally getting a good game, so I got rid of it, and will not be buying another one. Bottom line, with P2P it’s easy to get screwed. I’ll be getting Battlefield this Fall instead of COD. What I wonder is why they don’t start implementing dedicated servers more into console games? I know it’s expensive, but would improve the overall quality even to the point that the “Average Joe” player might notice and wants to spend his money on the next one.

(DarkangelUK) #80

I guess there’s gonna be lots of deals broken games for you, cos I wouldn’t expect dedicated servers to become the norm any time soon for consoles.
