Then how is it good enough for them to have TDM and DM and not Brink?
I don’t use consoles or support TDM on Brink but saying that the most popular games not having a particular feature is a justification in itself, is wrong.
Once again console owners don't get dedicated servers!
Homefront is on dedi servers… while they did have some issues at launch (understatement) they seem to have ironed out the issues, and its a console game that runs good on them.
PC gamer who couldn’t care less whether I have dedicated or P2P, I’ve had no problems with either.
P2P I always have excellent ping, though I obviously can’t speak for others and their ping may be much worse (unless you’re complaining about something like 70 ping).
I feel dedicated servers are better for a game where you actually want to choose a server, like CS:S I may want to choose to play jailbreak and use dedi servers to find that.
MW2 had P2P which worked fine cause all the mods sucked anyway and I couldn’t care less what map I played since they were usually equal, nothing spectacular. Hackers could be dealt with by a “report” or “votekick” button.
Brink to me looks more like a pick up and play game and 8 v 8 on a P2P “server” doesn’t sound so bad. Now I’m trying to imagine a game like BC2 being P2P
Here we go another year another promise of unique fps game, another one without ****ing dedicated servers on consoles. I’m sorry splash damage but for me that’s a no go, skip, simply lost interest… don’t feel like trying to enjoy gaming on somebody’s AT&T basic dsl connection with 384 Kbps upload hosting capabilities
I have 70kbps on average and I’m not complaining, so why should you?
Actually, you do. There’s a certain amount of users (virtual pathways) per pipe, and if everyone is hammering the connection you’ll get slow down, drop-outs and high pings. A lot of ISP’s are pretty bad at managing their own VP’s, and oversaturate a pipe with too many users and cause congestion. This is also why most DSL ISP’s have bandwidth caps or fair usage policies.

Just because Brink is trying to raise the bar on gameplay standard does not mean they have to raise the bar on external standards. Console players aren’t the kind of public that will be woo’d with dedicated servers anyway.
If you made the decision of playing games on consoles… then this is what you get. Most games don’t have dedicated servers… and the ones that do have are like EA games etc. SD couldn’t probably even afford this. Don’t whine about your own mistakes, get the PC version.
I may upgrade my service when Brink comes out. Black Ops is too sporadic to tell if my connection is good for playing games or not. I have the main box right next to the TV, and it is plugged into my router. My ps3 is hooked directly into the router, so I am not losing anything with wireless.
Consoles: No freedom, effortless, party play
PCs: Freedom, effort, loner
I don’t understand why people will nitpick consoles when the point of them is so you don’t have to imagine those sort of details. A majority of the users will not know about “server” or any other technical terms. When you start taking it that far it’s time to game on a PC.
Someone from Splash Damage did state that the hosting would be based on the fastest internet connection available, so you’ll only be limited by the fastest person playing that round. That may mean a quick speed and ping test before each match, but it will be more like playing against a dedi.

possibly the first time I totally agree with you
talk to sony and microsoft.
they’re the ones that are responsible for the lack of dedicated servers on consoles.
if it would be as easy to implement as it is on PC, devs would do it more regulary…
Is it wrong if I find great satisfaction in the fact that console players are getting mad?
first they want keyboard and mouse, now they want dedicated servers, next they’ll want to do spreadsheets and overclock
Lol, this was true maybe 10 years ago. With the current technology you are not sharing bw with your neighbours.
ADSL looses a lot of it’s speed over distance and has a max of 8Mb (max 5KM) Only VDSL2+ comes near Cable (at this moment) with a max of 100Mb/s. DOCSIS 3.0 can reach a Gb/s.
Who wants a keyboard and mouse?? Yuck! I have those at work.
I would be happy with dedicated servers, thank you.
Having dedicated servers provides DICE/Battlefield with a competitive advantage, as is one of the reasons I will be getting that game, too.
Because if the P2P gameplay isn’t fun, then Brink won’t be as successful as it should be. If that occurs, there won’t be a Brink 2 (because the majority of profits earned on this game, as all multiplatform releases, come from console sales). And if there isn’t a Brink 2, even the PC players will be sad. So PC players should join with console players on this particular issue.
Your average joe console player has no idea what dedicated and P2P play is, so it’s not a selling point to the masses, it’s a spec they’d just shrug off and say ‘what ever’. There’s no mass demand for dedicated servers, there’s a small group being very loud about it.
