Oh my god! Soldiers have no reputation.

I was playing TC_Base on a server. I first played engy, but then when we got more engys I thought I´d play soldier for a change. I played an MG soldier for both axis and allies (It was a stopwatch server).

It was great!

I was defending the whole fence thingie as axis and no allies could go by, some friengly fieldops threw me the ammo from the bridge above and sometimes medics would give me health and so on. I go the basic “N00b Lamerz!” shouts from the opposing side, as they were mowed down by my gun.

Now as allies I did the excact opposite and by getting into my position I could stop all axis movement on the bridge and the area below it. This of course enabled my team to attack better and gain an advantage when destroying radar 01.

But then it happened: The newly made referee starts demanding me to “attack” or I will be kicked! Then he says that I am not doing anything for the team! I mean WTF? I got “best fragger” and “best soldier” award on each round, both axis and allies! I kept the allies from spawning in and on the otherhand I was the supportive fire for our engies!

I mean seriously why is there no respect for a soldier? Is it because of panzerfaust n00bs or what?

(ETplayer) #2

indeed it is, most ppl have no respect for soldiers what so ever…

This is because the panzerfaust is a aim, click, insta frag, weapon.
And the soldier is mainly used for the panzerfaust ONLY. {PERIOD}

The only thing the panzer is basicly used for is fragging and spawnkilling, as for the other weapons are mainly used for defense, or attacking as in laying cover… like mortar or the mg42.

I’ve seen some good soldiers who indeed do teamplay, but the most soldier i meet are noobs…
a.k.a. panzerfaustsoldiers.

I play as an MG soldier on defence occasionally, but never on attack. You’re not going to win maps where you need to attack by just killing the enemy. You might have been killing the enemy, but could you have been doing more by getting up and trying to get the objective? I think that was his point, however poorly he voiced it.

I agree, there is definately a stigma with the Panzer. I’ve seen a couple of people use it intelligently, but most people just use it for, as you said, insta-frags. Leading to the generalisation the people who use Panzers can’t shoot with a SMG and are n00bs. Making the Panzer available at Light Weapons 2 might not be a bad idea.

Puubert,
I beg to differ. I play MG42 soldier on attack all the time. If you are good with it, and have figured out the best positions for certain milestones in the game, you can hammer the opposition. Denying certain routes or chokepoints to the enemy can make a huge difference. Wasting their fieldops and medics prevents them from mounting a good defense. It’s a lot more accurate and selective than artillery, and I have more success sniping with it than most covops with slow firing scoped rifles. Sure, it’s a support weapon in attack, but so are medics and fieldops. You are vulnerable to PF attacks, but who isn’t?

(The_Jesus_Zeppelin) #5

i think the soldier has alot of rep, you have no idea how many times a mortar or panzer kid has saved my life from an onslaught of enemies.
i thank the brave people who are talented enough to be a great soldier. i cant hit crap with the mortar, and the panzer takes alot of practice to work well with, and ditto for the flamer and the mg42. good defenses!

(puubert) #6

I’m not saying you can’t use it as an offensive weapon. But I feel that I’m helping my team more by getting in there and trying to complete objectives rather than covering fire. Sounds like we need to work together lol

(ETplayer) #7

Talented or skilled, still the noobs play the soldier for panzerfaust and they dont care if they obliterate 5 teammembers 2 kill 1 enemy

Wich iritates me :disgust:

Example

IcE-T was killed by team mate noobie

x-treme was killed by team mate noobie

Some Guy was killed by team mate noobie

One axis was killed by noobie

:eek2: :disgust:

Yep Panzer is considered a n00b’s weapon too much, see below’s example

I usually play as medic but one day on gold rush I was allied and the tank was at the 2nd barrier, the axis had set-up a good defence opposite the stairs by the tank (one med, one MG soldier and one rifle nade eng) and they were killing everyone who came close to the tank/dared to even look down the stairs. I swapped to Panzer just to clear them out, so I warmed up my panzer before poping my head around the door and took all 3 of them out - within seconds the tank was repaired and dynamite was planted at the barrier. I was just about to change my class back to medic when one of the axis I had killed started calling me a n00b with a n00bs weapon saying it takes no skill, so instead of changing back to medic I kept my panzer just to annoy him (and boy, was he annoyed) lol

Gee, it’s almost as if…as if…as if ET were a Team Game or somethin’…
Of course, there’s no shortage of disastrously inept Field Ops, XP-aholic Engineers, Mine-Ignorin’ Covert Ops and “Screw You Guys, I’m Going For GLORY” Medics.

There are team players and glory merchants of every class, age, race, sex, and config. A good Soldier providing constant heavy firepower for their team-mates is an invaluable asset in attack or defence. In doing so, they’ll probably rack up a good frag and XP score. But then so would a good Engineer or sneaky CovOps.

Yah, there are probably more clueless Soldiers than other classes, but N00bism is a curable condition. We ALL had it to start off with. And none of us were cured by being sworn at. Even in the heat of battle and freshly TK’d for the ninth time, polite persuasion will get better results than invective and cussin’.

Of course if you TK me, that’s a different matter.
And if I TK you, that’s just bug-checking…

:moo:

rofl

Well, I think you guys should limit the Panzerfaust to maps where it can’t be misused - like on maps where the Axis has to stop a tank.

Why is it necessary on maps like Battery? Just to blast into the bunker? That sucks - a good Allies cvt. ops snipes everone near the bunker-MG’s and gets lotsa XP - what do panzer-kids get? Complaints, swearing … unnecessary IMHO.
Limit the Panzerfaust to specifiy maps, and everyone is happy.

Thats weak. Do it with the 1911 Pistol and I’m impressed.

(K:os) #16

Maybe you should watch the modern day gamers 2 video, OMG even Four Kings use a Panzer

(mouse) #17

Thats exactly the same thing that came to my mind when watched it, and i watched the demo’s of the finals of (… dunno wich tourney) and all the teams had 1 panzer. This makes me think again how important it is to use 1 panzer. You know it from playing at the pubs how diffrent a panzer a game makes btw, when you get shot by a panzer at the bridge of goldie, you will not go out of the spawn trough the short way anymore. Even though he might not be there anymore. Its the potential treath of a soldier that makes this class great alone imo.

(ps again sry for my crappy english :frowning: should study harder on that)

(Lanz) #18

It’s not the weapons in itself that makes me annoyed when I play, I’m used to them and got my ass handed to me on several occasions when playing clan games. The problem is that people tend to stack up on the weapon. I’ve seen 2-3 panzers on one side and all plays as if they have a smg in their hand and brag about there one shot one kill insta gib thing. A panzer is a support weapon, just as air and artillery strikes are support for a FO. Play it right, use it in a good supporting role and I’m happy. You dont impress me with this weapon if you only take out one guy with it.

Same thing goes with the rifle grenade, you know there’s a rifle attached to it, use it for god sake. If you fire off the grenade, miss, run away to add a new one to take out one guy then you’re a noob in my eyes. The rifle is deadly in the right hands. Also, your an engineer first and a grenade gibbing xp whore second, use your energy to better things sometimes than just grenades. I’ve seen it several times how engs add grenade after grenade and then dont have enough to actually build/destroy objectives.

Things like that annoys me, not the guns in itself, although for me the game would have been more fun without them, on public servers at least.

(J. Warbler Madman) #19

Maybe it would be easier to avoid filling up the team with panzers if there was some way to check the weapon load-out of your team. Maybe from the weapon selection menu in Limbo it could have a little number next to each heavy weapon showing how many are on the team so you can pick appropriately.

(puubert) #20

Well, servers can limit the number of heavy weapons a side carries, but I don’t think it’s specific to a weapon. It’s just 1 or 3 “heavy weapons”. Which could translate as 1 panzer and 2 MG’s, or 3 panzers.
