No to "Noobtube"

Oh yes, I stand corrected, I mean high damage. My point is, it just defeats the point of a having an explosive device. What value does it add? What can that sort of GL add to the game that other guns can’t?

(Sssaap) #62

I figured that:P

If you’d finally have a look at what I wrote on CF about it…http://www.crossfire.nu/?x=forum&mode=item&id=24588#comment792178 you’d see that I’m actually not really wanting a GL that is compeltely like it is in ET - just not one that can spam as fast as the mines in unreal:)

So you can shoot about 1 grenade each 2-4 seconds(didn’t see the GL in brink - is it 1 shot or does it have up to 6/8 grenades?)
With the damage i proposed it shouldn’t be overpowered neither it should be useless on its own (with you carrying a secondary weapon)

(tokamak) #63

Yeah I’ve seen it, but if you really want to directly hit someone then why not take an assault rifle? Why not make a whole different weapon that actually brings something totally new to the table?

(Sssaap) #64

Hmmm basically because I don’t like reinventing the wheel if it’s more or less proven to be successful - and maybe because I just love big-projectile weapons more than assault rifles - I’m more into point-aiming instead of tracking and love explosions.

(Shiv) #65

If your meaning it to be a support weapon toka why not just remove the damage entirely?
Give it some effect like smoke or stun… then its not useless on its own… stun the other guy (not fun to be stunned) then go in close for the kill with melee or secondary.

What i am scared of is the scenes in tf2 where whole 3 minute fights are held just be spamming a corner and no one interacts, its as boring as watching paint dry and grass grow.

Having said that… no one will rush a corner with stun spam going on.

(tokamak) #66

True, but it are usually not the demomans holding up the corners. These guys are usually the ones breaking up those turret batteries and everything. It’s a valid point nonetheless. I would hate to see Brink become as spammy as TF2.

Another thought would be to give the grenade medium damage and an huge knock-back. I’ve been playing Shattered Horizon all weekend and those ‘Air Pulse’ grenades are great. You often don’t kill someone with one, but they easily send people flying which disrupts everything they’re doing (IE, capturing a point, hiding behind stuff, sniping, etc). Their blast radius isn’t even that big, but simply because in the game the astronauts tend to clog up around a capture point, blowing them all away can save the game.

This also means that if you hit someone once, you interrupt him so much that you stand a good chance of killing him with the second shot (or with your pistol).

And of course, knock-backs are welcome in defense as well as in offense.

I wish SD can allow host to disable certain weapons. That would be fantastic if disabling weapon is a host feature.

(Rahdo) #68

How does everyone else feel about this? Anyone concerned that it might be cumbersome, splitting player base up, frustrating for players who really like weapon X or Y, etc.?

Or all hunkey dory? Does one expect to be able to filter server lists by what weapons are allowed, etc.?

(tokamak) #69

Oh definitely not in ‘pure’ servers. People want to play the game they paid for.

I’m all for giving server hosts flexibility in their server rules, but the moment they change actual gameplay features it should cease to be a ‘pure’ server and dropped out of the default filter.

Raven Shield had a huge feature in gun limits. A server host could decide what guns were allowed, what bullets and what modifications, cute, but right now there are only servers running ‘comp’ setting, only simple guns and frag grenades enabled. Variety is great, but I’m concerned mob-rule will degrade the overall game.

(this is going to be another flame war again)

(DarkangelUK) #70

Tbph I probably wouldn’t play on those servers, i’m not a fan of the idea or removing stuff because the server owner simply doesn’t like it. As toka said, remove it from the standard server list as it’s not a pure server.

This also raises the concern of ranked and unranked servers. Custom servers in ETQW were fine, but you didn’t gain XP or stats on those servers, which meant people didn’t want to play if their stats weren’t being increased… i saw many complaints that their servers were sitting empty cos people would rather play on ranked, which will more than likely happen if it works the same way with Brink.

(darthmob) #71

I think being able to sort out servers with certain weapons just overcomplicates filters. ETQW had all the right features that where needed in the serverbrowser. I would like to be able to view which settings a server has set before joining it, though. I’m not sure if it was possible ingame in ET / ETQW but third party server browsers supported that. A column where all settings are listed would be great (like max slots, friendly fire, weapon settings etc.).

Special weapon settings will most likely get promoted in the servername. It works quite well in CoD.

(Nail) #72

with W:ET the ingame browser shows settings if you click on server info

I think the stats should be recorded everywhere. It’s just that the server browser needs a very clear and obvious ‘pure’ server only toggle.

The choice of a player shouldn’t be dependant on whether he gets stats or xp or not, it should depend on the type of game he prefers.

Complex filters are always helpful (maybe in a seperate ‘advanced filters’ menu). What also would help is giving clear information on the server settings when you click on it in the server browser.

(DarkangelUK) #74

Can setting rules like that that affect XP and have the possibility to be set to private nto just encourage stat padding?

(tokamak) #75

Well Rahdo already said there’s nothing stopping people from artificially manipulating their stats and that they’re only cheating themselves with it. I think that’s a healthy stance to take and with that in mind you can easily allow stat tracking on custom servers.

To be honest, I rather see statpadders join together on a private custom server for their circle-wank sessions than to bother the rest of the players with it.

(YaNz) #76

Custom options in a game like this are key. Official servers should be in place with standard weapon sets etc, but other players should be able to tweak the game to there liking.

This is one of the things Halo 3 did right on console. Everything from ammo and gravity, to speed and damage was modifiable. This allowed competitive arenas to tweak the core gameplay to cater to their audience.

I hope BRINK provides players with a solid set of tweakables, and this will undoubtedly yield a larger fanbase as well as enhance competitive merit

(zXSwordXz) #77

Agree with Yanz, there should be offical servers with default setting. However, host should be able to tweak their server to allow competitive gameplay. Flexibility is always good.

(Ragoo) #78

This please!
And maybe filter should by default hide custom servers so newcomers won’t go there by accident. Or there should be a sign that clearly distinguishes the normal servers from the custom ones

But in either way the server host should be allowed to disable weapons because if you don’t give us this option right from the start, the Promod will have to add it

(zXSwordXz) #79

Just one quick note for SD, if you’re going to allow custom server. Please allow it for the console versions as well. Not all the time I feel like playing on the computer. In fact, I’m growing more into the console idea of sitting on a lazyboy, infront of a 65" TV with a beer in holster. I’m starting too loose the touch of mouse/keyboard and gain skills with a gamepad. I know it is sad but hey, life is evolving.

(tokamak) #80

I’ll post UT2k4’s excellent example again:
