No Ragdoll No Buy

(SockDog) #61

Yeah what sort of person would write off an entire game because of one aspect!

(Linsolv) #62

But Shadedluck! If he doesn’t buy, it’s a lost sale, which Splash Damage is responsible for! THAT MEANS THAT SPLASH DAMAGE IS GUILTY OF PIRACY. (1:1 Lost Sale/Piracy ratio)

(Shadedluck) #63

Now we’ll never get our game T_T
Team Fortress 2 did basically this 5 years ago…so innovation can be argued…
Did what exactly? You don’t even know what you are passing up.

First you say you’re not going to buy it because it doesn’t have ragdolls, and now you say you are looking forward to it? So what, were you just exagerating in your first post, or are you looking forward to not buying it?

(Cankor) #65

Right, because a ragdoll from incapacitated to dead…what’s the point? hmmm, I guess if a nade or bomb gibbed you you might fly off.

OK, so there, game has ragdolls, OP can now buy it. whoopee.

(BioSnark) #66
one of the important things about ragdolls is the “animation” when the ragdoll is falling on the ground.

for gibbing they already have to lie on their back, a little bit to late if you ask me…
Oh, I don’t disagree at all. I argued a similar point, previously. Just didn’t feel compelled to restate my position.

Lots of angry narrow minded fangirls here… Should’ve known.

I can look forward to a game and not buy it. I’m sure it’ll be fun and fresh to me for the first couple weeks. But part of what makes me coming back to the few games I play online are ragdolls and physics. They create moments that trigger emotions which makes you enjoy a video game, also adds replay and longevity…imo

Part of the reason why I keep coming back to BC2 because moments occur that aren’t ‘scripted’ and it really adds to the experience–which are also conveyed in each and every death (which you see a lot of). It feels like you are almost playing a movie the way things play out. I’ll be ducking behind cover with my buddy, I tell him to charge the point why I lay down fire, and as I do it and he runs I see him get absolutely ‘pwned’ by a helicopter above… raining fire down and seeing his body just get tossed 30 or so feet by the massive fire of the heli… it’s quite amazing. If there wasn’t ragdolls, I’d just see him instantly do this non-momentum canned animation and it just doesn’t appeal to me. I don’t feel that immersion.

But when you have the same scripted death sequences, to me, it gets kind of old and boring. Sure that’s just my opinion - but I don’t see how anyone can say that ‘ragdolls’ aren’t possible in this type of game? You could make it so explosions don’t send bodies on the ground flying every which way, just the initial impact or whatever. Something that carries the momentum of the player.

And to the people who say “Oh well what if the ragdoll makes the person unreachable or fall out of the arena”? Well there are respawns aren’t there? Who cares if you can’t be revived for 1 death. You do respawn in this game don’t you? It’s not like ragdoll means you’ll be unreachable or glitched or whatever 99% of the time, it’s more like 5% of the time if implemented correctly.

So in essence, yes I’m looking forward to this game to try out. Will that guarentee a buy? Nope. Like I stated previously, I play games to feel immersed and to have emotions trigged when something happens to someone dying (as sick as that sounds). Because killing and seeing people get taken down is a large part of what you see constantly. So to see the same animation over and over gets old and boring to me.

I just find myself enjoying games way more when they have ragdolls. Everyone has a preference. One of the sole reasons why I haven’t put hardly any time into the recent slew of CODs is that it’s the same game being rehashed over and over with no ragdolls/physics.

People play games for different reasons. I find it very enjoyable when games convey deaths differently each time, depending on where they are and how they are hit. You are constantly seeing kills/deaths in FPS so it should be somewhat different each time imo. It creates / triggers those emotions that make me enjoy the game I’m playing.

Some do care about them, others don’t. To me, if a FPS has ragdolls, it’s way more likely I’ll enjoy it and buy it because it helps break up the same thing that occurs over and over (when someone dies and that pre-scripted animation loads up).

That’s my opinion, sorry if it offends you fangirls. I think this game has a lot going for it but I was extremely disappointed when I saw the trailers and didn’t see any ragdolls.

My apologies to the grammatical errors , I don’t feel like proof reading

Of all the things that can evoke emotions, enjoyment and replayability in a game, you choose ragdolls and physics as the prime suspects…wow.

(Weapuh) #69

Anyone else can’t the irony in calling everyone narrow minded lol, enjoy no-game, I’m sure it’s really fun.

(dinkomalinko) #70

Why don’t you read and comprehend what I’m saying.

I’m not dismissing this game, I’ll play it. But I don’t know if I’ll buy it. I tend to buy games that have ragdolls because it breaks up the monotony of kills/deaths that you constantly see in a game like this.

(DouglasDanger) #71

why is this thread still going? I don’t understand. There are ragdolls for dead bodies.

(Weapuh) #72

Well you are missing the mark if you think the only thing that would make this game replayable is the variability of kills with physics and ragdolls. Every match will be different due to the dynamics of players completing objectives, when a game isn’t so focused on running and gunning (or camping :/) it’ll be hard to give a crap about an animations imo. Hopefully you’ll buy after you play.

(dinkomalinko) #73

Well I haven’t seen it in any of the trailers.

I don’t mean ragdolls as in once the body is on ground. I mean from point of death to when they hit the ground - is it there? I honestly I didn’t see that in the trailers.

(DarkSlayer54) #74

I feel like this post will be overlooked, but I’m itching to reply to this.

I think Death Animations are a must. It’s obviously a matter of opinion, but I figured I’d share mine. The reason I hate Left 4 Dead is mostly because of it’s Ragdoll Physics. I find it dull, and boring. It’s always the same old thing, yet different… if that makes any sense. It’s like, I shoot a zombie, and it simply falls to the ground with dully loose arms.
I’ve always loved animations. It’s always satisfying when done right. The animations generally are very quick fast paced. I’m making terrible points, but let me try to give an example here.

I don’t feel like mentioning the name of the game, but there was a FPS that was released as a retail in 2002, and all it’s deaths were through animations. It was simply addictive and amazing for multiple reasons, but killing was the most satisfying aspect. If you shot them in the head they’d practically do a break fall on their backs, and make you think “I want to do that again”.
Then when I go into a more “modern” game like Left 4 Dead, and I get bored. I actually promised myself that I’d beat L4D2, and I did… however, I got bored out of my skull. I ended up using cheats to go to the end of the level and actually “complete” the level. It’s the first game where killing zombies felt like I was just bashing a pillow around the room.

(dinkomalinko) #75

Well we play games for different reasons apparently, and I’m not saying either way is right or wrong. I just find it way more entertaining, and hence, would keep me wanting to come back if kills/deaths were varied with the implementation of ragdoll as soon as a character’s health is at the point of being taken down or dead. So if they are running that momentum carries them to the ground. Once on the ground, I could care less if there is ragdolls or not.

I don’t know, apparently people don’t play games for the same reasons. But if I’m constantly seeing people killing and dying in a game, I’d like it to be varied enough so it adds that much more entertainment.

I find games to be pieces of entertainment. To me, I like to be immersed in that kind of media, and to see different things occur within the animation system. When you are part of a FPS, kills/deaths make up a large portion of what you constantly see, and when it’s the same animation being plugged in, it just makes it …hmm… not very entertaining TO ME.

I understand this game has way more to it then what’s been stated already. I know and I can’t wait try it out. But that’s the key word , ‘try it out’. I’m not an unlock addict. So what keeps me coming back besides the competition is the entertainment. Part of what makes a game really entertaining TO ME are the crazy kills/deaths that occur in a FPS when ragdolls are implemented. That’s just what makes me tick.

@DarkSlayer54: I don’t recall if it was in l4d1 but I’m quite certain the common zombies play death animations in l4d2. I thought valve was quite successful with their death animation, ragdoll, gore mix in making the common fodder fun to kill.

“I ended up using cheats to go to the end of the level and actually “complete” the level.” in singleplayer?

I’d be VERY surprised if they didn’t have a majority of rag doll. And, yeah. I never played any of the L4D’s on Multiplayer. I’ve heard that’s where the game shines, but if I got no enjoyment from the Single Player then I’m certain I won’t like the multiplayer.

I checked out more gameplay, and your right. There’s a quick animation that falls into ragdoll time to time… but the ragdoll is still as dull and boring as I remember.

(LyndonL) #78

Single player L4D is very boring/Easy. Play even COOP online and it becomes increasingly more difficult.

If lack of ragdolls is seriously a show stopper for you then so be it since it’s your choice. All I can say is please try the game and give it a decent chance. It may draw you in. It may not. All I know is the style of play is far more rewarding than the “objective” style of BC2

(BioSnark) #79

It’s not well designed for singleplayer. The special infected are all designed to enforce cooperation. Bot ai doesn’t cut it.

(Auzner) #80

Does the FBI know what you keep in your basement? That’s how I imagine most of the people nitpicking over this sort of thing. Sincerity on the topic doesn’t matter, they’ve got some creepy stuff going on I’m sure.

I’ve yet to see a game with GOOD ragdolls so I really don’t care either way.

You never played L4D and don’t tell anyone you did. Your opinion is invalid because you have missed the game. That’s because you pirated it and wouldn’t pay the $5. It plays like a survival game and you probably tried to barge through like UT style. You ran around like a noob letting all of the bots heal you. See if humans tolerate that.
