No Ragdoll No Buy

no but I think they settled on the OP can delete them.

Don’t have time to read all this thread so sorry if it’s been mentioned but I’m almost certain Brink has ragdolls on gibbed bodies. They are clearly seen in the first footage released. Also, what tokamak said.

(dinkomalinko) #43

Like I’ve stated many times, it’s all personal preference. I’ll rent this for a week, see if I enjoy it or not.

But part of my enjoyment in a game, as silly as it sounds to you all, are the whacky deaths that are from ragdolls.

Games to me, are suppose to trigger emotions. Part of games to me that trigger the most emotions are the ragdolls. Like in BC2, I shoot a guy with a tank, and I see his body go limp and fly 20+ feet into a building – that to me is just frkn awesome, despite it being unrealistic (but more so than just a guy throwing up his arms and falling to the ground). And when some guy is a top a hill in that game, and he is running, it’s nice to see after I shoot him that his momentum makes him stumble then fall and eventually slide down that hill. I am not sure what it is, but it triggers a certain enjoyment in my brain.

Many of you are quite frankly being quite ignorant jerks. Sure the topic was a bit harsh but it was put up to gain attention, and hopefully the developers will recognize it and maybe consider it something in the future.

Ragdolls also add replay and longevitiy (sp?) to me because you never see the same thing twice. BC2 excels so well in that regard, every time I play that game (I’ve plugged over 200 hours into it) it seems like I see something new and engaging.

While the person that said that bullets won’t send anyone flying is true. But when you kill someone running, you expect them to carry that momentum to their fall. If someone is running at me, and I shoot them… they should not just stop at that exact place, regardless if it’s real or not. Just makes no sense.

There’s just no reason modern games should not have ragdolls. We are deep into this current generation of games and I believe that the consoles actually have specific chips designed to handle physics. I maybe wrong but I thought I read that somewhere.

Seems to me the people that falter my decision are those that keep putting money down on the Call of Duty games that have been rehashed since 2006 or so.

If this game had Euphoria implemented in some way, I’d be playing it well into next year and beyond because to me, that creates a lot of ‘wow’ moments, and things don’t get old or stale.

Thanks for your time, and those who tried to remain somewhat respectful.

That’s kinda funny because whenever I see ragdoll deaths I see the same thing every time. A guy gets hit, flies backwards implausibly, possibly does a flip, and then lands sideways.

EDIT: No, consoles do not have physics chips.

Some computer graphics cards have PhysX chips, though.

The rag dolls in Bad Company are what keeps me playing it. And they are epic like they carry momentum, they go flying sometimes, or do wierd buggy things like get stuck on objects and start spazing out… totally a plus in my opinion BUT WON’T MAKE OR BREAK the game for me. If I like it it will be like women (or men for some of you), just has that chemisty of pluses mixed with some minuses… love the game as what you get!

Ragdolls or dynamic animations are a nice touch if done well. Humans are pretty good at picking out patterns and odd things, gamers are also just as good at ignoring them.

What annoys me most on this topic however is not the lack of ragdolls, it’s the excuses people present for their ommission. Ragdolls can look good, they can blend into fixed positions, they are as valid a visual tweak as any other smooth animation you’d expect on a character.
“so stop posting useless stuff.”

yeah posting useless stuff, like posting requesting features for a game thats going to be in store shelves in less than a month.
I haven started this thread.
In fact I said it’s already way to late.
learn2read.

that said, you still havent come up with something that doesnt make your argument useless.
you just ignored my post and acted as if I were the OP.

(badman) #48

Replace ‘gibbed’ with ‘dead’ and this is correct.

(beute) #49

one of the important things about ragdolls is the “animation” when the ragdoll is falling on the ground.

for gibbing they already have to lie on their back, a little bit to late if you ask me…

(amazinglarry) #50

If this game doesn’t have any red it in it, I’m not buying it. Can anybody confirm? I require red in my games.

(light_sh4v0r) #51

Eh, gibbed = dead?
Unless you mean gibbed as in ‘split into multiple parts’

(SockDog) #52

And it’s still true that you must always be incap before death?

(Herandar) #53

You guys should really check the other forums out once in a while. Anyone can tag once again, but it is no longer anonymous.

Dear AmazinGLarrY,

I regret to inform you that the game does not have true red in it anywhere. That blood you saw was a light maroon, and that Resistance face mask was a filtered crimson. We will miss your presence, AmazinGLarrY, and petition the Devs to add true red in DLC content.

Sincerely Yours,

Herandar

(JeP) #54

Didn’t feel like putting to much effort to know that, I’m interested about the game, not the forum’s specificities :penguin:

“Pre-canned animations suck pretty bad for 2011. I’m sorry, it’s the truth.”
No, it is YOUR OPINION. I can’t understand stand when people think what they want is the only viable option for games and somehow becomes FACT.
7 years after it was done pretty well, and has been done in combination with canned animations very well, and you’re surprised that people aren’t interested in buying the game because it looks out dated? Canned death animations were out dated when Quake Wars came out.

It’s the entertainment industry, bro. Think about it.

…Didn’t I play QL with you this morning/yesterday night?

(tokamak) #56

It’s true though. The reason WoW failed so miserably was because of it’s canned dead animations.

(SphereCow) #57

Your sarcasm would be clever, except for that game being a completely different genre with completely different expectations. You wouldn’t complain about hit detection in a game like WoW, EVE, or Dragon Age, because it practically doesn’t exist and isn’t necessary. Not having rag dolls in a first person shooter these days during combat is akin to having Quake 3 style strafe jumping. It’s outmoded, whether you like to admit it or not.

Nice try, though.

(Linsolv) #58

Why do you need hit detection during a dead body flying implausibly through the air? It’s already dead, bro.

(Apoc) #59

As badman just said…brink does have ragdoll…not that it should matter, such idiotic priorities actually annoy me.

(Shadedluck) #60

And what happens if someone gets ragdolled out of the map? It wouldn’t be impossible, and ragdolls have tons of glitches in themselves. They can’t cater to everyones needs and get it out in time, can they? Stop nitpicking on a game, and if you aren’t gonna buy it, they aren’t hurting too badly from one lost sale.
