No lobbies, what were you thinking?
All console FPSs so far have auto-aim.

Hey, look, it took a single sentence to turn all your arguments invalid.

But to be honest, your arguments really are invalid. Controllers are NOT the way to properly play an FPS. It’s like being offered to pick one of 2 bags of money; one contains $5000, and the other contains $30, and there is no catch whatsoever, just pick one of the 2 bags and it’s yours. Playing an FPS on a console is like choosing the $30. It makes no sense, and you end up with something of a much, much lower value than you could have had.

Now of couse, brink has no auto-aim. Of course, it’s merely a coincidence that 90% of the people who try brink on a console will hate it, and go back to crap of duty.

The first thing you said made no sense either. If you want to be on par with the general superiority of aiming with a mouse, get a pc copy. Don’t make others gimp themselves. I can use te exact same logic that you used; console gamers only want PC users to turn on the option, so they don’t have to feel bad about their highly inferior control scheme.
A few FPS games on console do not have auto-aim. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is just one example and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is just another. And some games fortunately allow us to turn it off.

I play on all 3 platforms and I can assure you that the gaming community on PC is generally better at aiming than the majority of console players. However, when it comes to the good players, you would actually be suprised by how good at aiming some console players can be and would have no problem at competing against PC players. However, really really good console players are more rare, since it’s harder to get there and competitive console gaming still is pretty new.

(Pel1can) #103

Can’t we just be happy people want to play Brink competitively at all? I think that is amazing, regardless of what platform it’s on we all want to play this game.

(splodead) #104

As far as aiming between console and PC players.

Both control schemes are viable but people with have their preferences.

It isn’t until you get to the tip top level of competition, the top 10th of 1% of fps gamers for example that you really would notice any difference.

Since top level MLG Pro Circuit Halo snipers don’t play with a controller against top level quake players using moues and keyboard on a separate game like CSS (to make it more even, new to both) we can’t really know.

Personally I think that the mouse offers more precision because I can alter the sensitivity to such a precise level with my DPI and ingame sensitivity. Twitch shots become much easier when you can relate a distance you move your mouse hand to a distance on the screen. And if you don’t play on a high sensitivity on your controller you’re kind of locked into a set scroll speed.

TL;DR

Basically, both are perfectly viable and most of us here can’t say one or the other is directly better, just that they are better for us individually.

Also, why is there no lobby system? Launching a game with your friends requires you to start the game without them, then wait for them to join you or accept your invites. After the game, players automatically move on to the next map, unless they vote to play a different mission. Or, you know, disband and reform with a new host. This inaccessibility was made all the more arduous by frequent standstill lag, which made most multiplayer matches almost unplayable. (For what it’s worth, Bethesda promises to fix these “minor networking issues” with a day-one patch.)

quote from a review…SD get a proper party system in place for matchmaking please this method of having to join a game with enough room for 7 of your friends and then get them all to join on u before some random takes a spot is NOT ideal. Party system is ESSENTIAL for consoles, this game will not last if ppl have to jump through flaming hoops to get a full team together just to play, get it done

(mmonney31) #106

this game needs a party system for console play otherwise its just gunna be dumb luck to get your friends in a match before it fills up with randoms and this game will fail

(Jess Alon) #107

It has a party system.

(Karazykid) #108

It has a private party system. Not all of us are hardcore clan players having ladder matches constantly. Some of us just wanna get a few people together and go play, which we can’t do. Joining a random game and hoping there’s 3-4 open spots for your friends is ridiculous and completely stupid.

(X Trigger I) #109

Random people can join your private game. (I think)

(Jess Alon) #110

My group of six with playing with two bots on our team and then two randoms joined up. I don’t understand what the big deal is.

(Karazykid) #111

Nope. Your private game is for you and whoever you invite. Nobody else. And there’s no way to open your private game to the public.

(Jess Alon) #112

To be honest it doesn’t matter how splash damage does it. Someone would complain about how it’s done.

(Karazykid) #113

You got your 6 buddies in a room how? By joining solo and them slowly filtering in as people dropped? And that seems okay to you? To be honest you’re kind of an idiot.

(X Trigger I) #114

I was going off that machinima video with on of SD devs, i thought that’s what he meant :S

You make a private room, invite your friends, set the rules and wait for people to join while you run around in the warm up.

He said they could open up that option to freeplay mode too if people wanted it.

They need to open that up then. Cause right now people can’t join your private games unless they’re invited. There’s no “running around” in warm up either. Its just a screen where you can chat to people, just like the lobby for COD or anything else.

(X Trigger I) #116

WTF, the dev said you can run around in the warm up checking out all the nooks and crannies. Someones not telling the truth but who is it ;D i would check again dude, it maybe hidden within. Old school mode give it a check.

I agree that this is a HUGE problem and directly affects my enjoyment of the game. I picked up the game for 360 today and while playing online, met a group of pretty cool people. We all joined an xbox live party together through the dashboard, and the game automatically put us in a fireteam. Thats pretty cool i guess.

This is where the trouble began. Eventually after 2 or 3 different matches we decided to back out to the main menus and tweak our character/gun setup. When we tried to get into a new game together we really…couldn’t. Everytime someone joined a game it was already full with other HUMAN players (NOT BOTS!!) and we couldn’t join. Or sometimes we were able to join, but were put on different teams. Im sorry, but were partied up FOR A REASON! Do NOT put people in the same party/“Fireteam” on different teams. Thats complete trash, and simply does not work.

Give us a proper party and lobby system and this game would be a lot more fun. What you call your pre-game “Warmup” is really a bad, bad excuse for a “lobby” system since 95% of people mash start/A button right away and skip the warmup entirely. There goes your “lobby” system right out the window!

We all eventually logged off because it was way too frustrating trying to find a game where we all fit onto the same team and didn’t lag horrible (another problem i have with this game).

It’s a real shame too because if you get lucky and get into a match without any lag and with your friends on the same team, the game’s a blast. Unfortunately, I played for around 5 or 6 hours today and most of the time that was not the case. I hope someone from Splash Damage sees this post and comments on it; i tried to be as civil as possible and not resort to flaming/complete fanboyism. It’s just frustrating to see such a good game get punished by such bad networking (lag) and terrible UI (party/lobbys).

(Karazykid) #118

I’m sitting in a warm up screen right now. It says warm up in the top right corner, but its just a screen. I can’t move or anything. Even after everyone hits ready, you can’t move til it says the game starts.

(ultraddtd) #119

The problem is that there’s no way to join a pub game with one or more friends. You can’t start a solo or coop game and convert it to public either. So, at this time, the only way to play with friends is for one person to find a game with enough empty slots and try to get in before it fills up.

Thus you run into the problem where you have to load up a game then back out because there’s not enough room.

(ultraddtd) #120
If you set up a custom game in Brink, it’ll have what we call warm-up: a pre-match period that takes place in the actual map you’re about to play. You can use warm-up to join the correct team and get ready for the match. Once everyone’s connected in and set, you can select the Ready Up option and the match will get underway after a short countdown. You’re also able to define the minimum number of players required to be in the match before the ready up vote can start.

The Old Skool and Competition game types also have this warm-up functionality in them.

Fireteams are also in and present. If you join a friend’s game via the friends list, you’re automatically put into a fireteam together, with your own voice chat and special name colours on the hud. You can also invite people playing on your team into the fireteam.
How about pub games? Is it possible to form a fireteam here then go into pub games? If so, how?
